On the one hand, I feel like The Joker: "It'd be funny if it weren't so pathetic." And I feel that's how these POS'es should be treated; laughed at and ridiculed. But unfortunately, there's enough nutjobs out there where pretty much all these threats made have to be given at least cursory investigations, because what if you decide to ignore them and one neckbeard makes good on his words?

There's no reason you can't have both: Seriously investigate every threat as credible, and jail the perpetrators in a publicly visible place with a giant sign saying "this guy threatened somebody's life because the video game girl didn't have big enough boobs, let's all point and laugh." Public safety is maintained, with no need to compromise on the vicious ridicule.
