Who cares about that stuff? >_>. It's not like you'll have to see it, it's not WoW.

As for inherent bonuses + boons, I was considering going that route for my own campaign.

I care. I care a hell of a lot. Why would my character, who is a psionic armsmaster, have reason to take the armor and weaponry of his enemies (especially the weaponry: Vae Damno was a gift given to Val by another member of the Crisis Band, and has plot and sentimental value to him) for himself, instead of simply refining his craft? Valerian is not Rei. He doesn't collect trophies, and in fact he's more likely to bury someone with the treasures they wore as they died than take them for himself. It just doesn't fit his character, honestly. That's what it comes down to. The tried and true D&Dism of "random loot, get that phat gear on yo' ass" doesn't fly with him.

PS: Boons and inherent bonuses are the bestest thing. I think you should still leave some room open for specific enchantments if the player is invested in them (like a Captain's Weapon, for instance), but handling most items as "you train under a master who teaches you hax tricks" or "you become more skillful!" is much cooler than random magic items.
