TopicBiggest storm in a century? Walmart shelves as Texas prepare for huge storm
xMythic
02/19/21 2:27:50 AM
#260
MN resident here. We like to act like snow and ice are no big deal, as if our roads aren't a complete shit show during and after the first snowstorm of the season. Everyone forgets how to drive in snow for the first week or so. Cars, and trucks, in the ditch up and down the highway. And that's with nearly all of us having snow tires on our cars, with 4wd or AWD, and otherwise being completely prepared for winter. I can't blame anyone for having trouble with this weather. Why would anyone bother to prepare for something they've never experienced, or something that doesn't happen nearly often enough to worry about?

Not going to comment on the energy situation, other than that it sounds like Texas shot themselves in the dick on that front.

3 is definitely my least favorite. I enjoy it, but some of those flood levels/sections are just so annoying.

H1 is the best. I've replayed it countless times. Co-op never gets old. H2 is great too. Exploring outside the map and messing with the physics is almost a game unto itself.

I used to play NCAA Football every year. Run a dynasty with the Gators. Get about 10 years in and my roster was stacked top to bottom with 5* players. Some would never even see the field, I just had too much talent from over-recruiting. That's pretty much how Bama is IRL now. It's insane how much talent and depth they have at every position.

My house is out in the country, not visible by any of my neighbors. So it is a concern that someone might pull up to my house and clear it out while nobody is home.

I have Netgear Arlo cameras around all sides of my house. The Arlo app sends notifications to my phone if they pick up motion, automatically uploads recordings to the cloud, and they have decent night vision. They work pretty well.

Now, if someone really wants to get into my house, they can and will. But I'll be able to quickly call the police and my relatives who live up and down the road from my house to intervene.

I love driving to new places, but really only in rural areas here in MN and ND. Every Sunday I used to load up my camera gear and drive for a few hours to nowhere in particular. Sometimes I would take the entire day. I've stumbled onto quite a few neat little towns and sights this way.

I daily drive a WRX. A high-strung turbo 4 with a manual doesn't offer a fun driving experience in cities, especially those that are new to me and have heavy traffic. So I wouldn't say I enjoy driving to new cities.

your oven is a closed system, unless you've got a huge fire inside it you're best bet is to keep the door closed, cut off the burner/heating coil, and let it burn itself out. opening the door just gives the fire more air to burn and potentially more space for flaming oil to spit.
Yeah, I just kept it closed until it cooled off. I wasn't thinking when I opened it up in the first place. She said she only spilled water, I should've known there was grease spilled too. So that's my excitement for the day. Got the turkey cooking outside in a propane air fryer and there isn't much that can go wrong with that.

It happens. I graduated way back in '03, and there have been more than a few people I went to school with who have died over the years. I'm from a small town (~500 people) and had a small graduating class (28 students), so I knew all my classmates and most of the other kids in lower grades. That made their deaths hit a little close to home. A few were murdered, including an ex-gf, a couple OD'd, and others passed away in accidents, including one just a couple weeks ago.

From the npr article that certain people seem to be allergic to for some reason that explains the problem in easy to understand English

In late August, USDA announced it would extend that flexibility through the end of the year to "ensure meals are reaching all children whether they are learning in the classroom or virtually so they are fed and ready to learn," Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said.

Perdue's announcement was cheered by school leaders across the country, but they said a major hurdle remains: This food pickup model still requires families to come to a designated site at a designated time. And many can't. Often, parents and caregivers have to work and can't get away in the middle of the day. Or they don't have a way to get to the designated pickup site. Or they're not comfortable making daily food runs in a pandemic.

Last spring, when the School Nutrition Association surveyed school nutrition directors representing nearly 2,000 districts, 80% said they were serving fewer meals than they had been when school was in session. Of those, a majority of districts said the number of meals had dropped by 50% or more.

"It was a drastic change," Fulton County's Wright said. Before her schools went remote last spring, she said they served between 50,000 and 60,000 meals a day. After students were sent home, Wright said they gave out roughly 70,000 meals per week.

Try processing that and then read the other articles that focus on more than just school children. You have a link to free food programs from schools in your post. This article shows how those programs still have not eliminated the problem.
Nope, doesn't matter. People aren't literally starving to death, so there is no real problem. /s
