If I recall correctly they talk about locking on/off at the very very beginning (once you get control of Roxas) and it prompts you to lock on to a cat, bird or chest. Or something. But I could see it being easy to miss while one is trying to button mash through the do this to walk and look around stuff.

Glad youre back at this TC. You should feel good about getting through the early game, Ive found Beasts Castle tricky at times.

I had never played BBS before and I played on critical started with Terra. The very first world kicked my ass. It got easier from there until the super bosses

I was thinking about this today while listening to AC/DC's Back in Black. It's not my #1 album of all time, but God damn, there's not a single track on there that comes close to being weak. I don't even know how I'd rank them. It's just 10 straight bangers. Gun to my head I'd probably say that Givin' the Dog a Bone and What Do You Do For Money are marginally weaker than the other eight, but still so good that I feel bad saying it.

I like to think blasting this was what put you over the top against Dragon Maleficent

Great job. Others may disagree, but on a normal run (with no limitations) I find the Maleficent -> Dragon Maleficent -> Riku gauntlet to be the toughest stretch of the game outside of optional content. There are other challenging stretches near the end, but the first visit to Hollow Bastion is tough due to the aforementioned difficulty spike. Also, if you went with staff at the start and have gotten used to magic outside of boss battles, magic getting nerfed so badly makes simply navigating Hollow Bastion a challenge too.

Also, if you need to level or want munny, Traverse Town is a good place to do so quickly with use of magic.

This is true. TC, you may want to gain a few more levels. A couple good options would be to grind them out in Hollow Bastion, or you can go back to Olympus Coliseum and tackle the Hercules Cup.

If you arent level 45 (a popular guide suggests this level for completing Hollow Bastion) consider getting to that point. If you are, maybe just gain a couple levels and try again.

Other ideas for getting through this youre probably already using it, but the Tinker Bell summon is your friend. Im sure youre using plenty of Cure but dont forget about Aero as a defensive option and using your item slots to keep MP filled. Customizing your partners available abilities can also help with MP management. If you havent, you can also go back to Traverse Town and see if there are any new accessories worth buying/synthesizing.

If you gain a few levels you probably wont need to change anything else, though.

I imagine explore is being used very loosely here.

But there is a lot of content in the cups themselves. I would definitely do up to the Hercules Cup if you can before Hollow Bastion. But it doesn't really matter.

Yeah, good point. I meant to say most of the fun is in exploring its optional content. And totally agree about doing Hercules Cup before HB.

Yeah I love Traverse Town. The KH1 theme may be my favorite piece of video game music.

I find Olympus Coliseum is fun if properly explored. The first visit can be frustrating but theres way more to it.
