Most of us probably have families that might be more at risk than we are, you know. Or we are just empathic human beings, which is probably the case given this is that sort of board populated by that general type of person.

LordoftheMorons posted...
Without mitigation each person infects somewhere between two and three people on average (though this will vary from community to community based on density, behavior, etc). To avoid a substantial fraction of the population getting it we need to bring that number below 1. Getting part of the way there slows the spread of the virus and reduces the chances of hospitals being closed down. We cant afford not to cancel /shut down nonessential things.

Mitigation is necessary yes, I just wonder how much good certain forms of it are really going to do. If I had a child, I would rather them be in school than be inside a crowded supermarket if those are my only two choices. Obviously the best choice would be just staying at home until this dies down, but how many people are doing that and how many people even are going to have that option?

I am still waiting for someone to tell me why we dont quarantine for the flu. I understand its not as contagious or fatal or whatever else people say, but it kills more people. Why not quarantine them?

It's not really practical at this point given its range. While I don't agree with the reactions of some, for instance the obvious ones like toilet paper goblins or doomsayers, I do think action should be taken to contain the disease. The biggest issue is that as a country, we are not really capable of containment and the strategies we are utilizing annoy me. They close all the schools but then moms just bring their kids and pack in tight in the supermarkets to buy up enough food and supplies for 3 months; what's the point of closing areas where large gatherings take place if those just cause even larger gatherings, and at important points of interest at that? Until recently absolutely no limits were being placed on the purchases of important goods, allowing some to hoard as much as they could fathom, which I blame squarely on the sensationalism surrounding this situation. The thing is, this is a country that elected a blithering buffoon as president. If you tell that sound populous things like "millions could die", they panic. The thing is that yes, if left unchecked millions might die. But those estimates were made against the country doing nothing to combat the virus and continuing living life as they were before, yet clearly measures have been taken to prevent that number from soaring to such heights.

I don't think saying the coronavirus is "nothing to worry about" is a good idea, not at all. But the opposite end of the spectrum is no better because it scares the general population into being idiots. It's important to get out the message about this in the right way so people can approach the situation with a calm, measured response that lies somewhere in the middle of what were are currently seeing I think. Unfortunately, given our culture resides squarely in the extreme realms of sensationalism it makes it fairly difficult yet I feel we are doing well with containment thus far, compared to other countries with outbreaks in the same time period. As much as I don't like it, the best thing moving forward is to just "get over" these idiot hoarders being idiots because Trump's initial response of "meh, no biggie" is a lot worse than crazy people beating each other with wine bottles outside Sam's Club.

A negative test result doesn't necessarily mean negative with this virus. As a result of that it ain't being hysterical, it's being practical and realistic.

Or it's being nihilistic. I could almost swear that a few of you in this topic are excited about this and want it to be as bad as possible, and are rejecting any sort of news that isn't bad.

Donavon Mitchell has tested positive as well, at this point I'd assume a good number, if not all, of the Utaz Jazz players has it. So if you go off the R0 of CoVID19 - this could get really ugly.

It seems like only Mitchell and Gobert have it, according to multiple other players who revealed via twitter that their tests were negative.

Sigh.

I wish we could stop pressing the panic button. Maybe you didn't mean to, but that sort of conjecture is nothing short of hysteria.

The good thing about it is that Project Siren is headed by the former director of Team Silent, from the very first game only. But yeah I really feel like Siren is on a different level of clunky from any Silent Hill game, you have to play it to understand probably.

The same sources are also saying Akira Yamaoka will be back, which would be great.

Supposedly the other team working on the Silent Hill reboot is Project Siren, the team behind the Siren series and Gravity Rush. I'm a bit... tentative on that. Siren, while thematically a great series, from a gameplay perspective is notoriously clunky.

Theres a lot of uncertainty though

That's my biggest issue with all this. Reports like those, especially ones claiming 70% of the population will be infected, don't seem to actually be founded in any actual conclusive evidence. On a virus that doesn't seem to really have a lot known about it at this time, accusations like that are downright dangerous and are leading to hysteria, which is dangerous in itself.

Alan Wake is definitely one of the best stories horror game wise of the decade. Another unique thing in this game was the soundtrack; Remedy contracted actual band Poets of the Fall to portray in game band Old Gods of Asgard. Fighting through the game to some of those songs in the background was one of the best experiences a horror game has given me.

yeah, it's completely absurd to feel like a doormat when you're getting utterly obliterated by half the board for absolutely no reason and you're not saying anything in return.

Most doormats I know don't spend their days entering homes and shaking dirt out on the floor to piss everyone off. You came into a topic saying volatile stuff; certainly you expected retorts. Granted I didn't reply beyond the initial one way back when, but that one was bad enough to me.

Genny and I got the chance to check out Terrance Zdunich's band, American Murder Song, a few years ago at DragonCon. Definitely really cool music, check it out if you like his songs in Repo. He was the Graverobber, and also did the screenplay for the movie.

in the past i would say its absolutely hilarious that the same predictable people are making the same predictable stupid comments and posts but honestly after the amount of time these people have spent being this way i cant even laugh any more. its just saddening. im not entirely sure what causes people to be that way for like a decade plus on a chat forum, but id imagine its a nasty cocktail of loneliness, zero self esteem in the offline world, and some significant mental illness. again, in the past i would laugh because of the predictability of it. now i would just encourage you all to reach out to a therapist or someone in a professional clinical setting that you can talk to before spending your entire life being this way on GameFaqs

mamba out

I'll never understand the need for people to interject themselves into topics like this. Like the rationale behind it is just mind-boggling to me. I could go on and on about it but yeah, I would agree that even though this board is full of middle aged men now there's still this air of immaturity that will never really be vanquished.

Really pushing it to call this terrorizing someone. Kids will be kids; most everyone has probably done something that as an adult seems unnecessary or stupid. As an adult it's important to realize what a harmless prank is moreso than when you're a child. This guy deserves the maximum penalty they can give.
