I'm mad at myself for thinking of a character I love and would have supported full-force literally minutes too late (and who immediately got enough noms for a potential alternate).

Even without Hutz, since I overlooked Roger and Carol initially, it wouldn't have made a difference. Two of the ones I nommed in as replacements had to go out for them. Basically 3 additional characters would have needed to be DQed for that one to make it. It sucks, especially since people seemed to want the character in after the fact. Not the first time that's happened though.

There's a good amount of evidence that the character is meant to be portrayed as a drunkard. By recovered alcoholic, I meant a character that simply was alcoholic at one point and their media barely references. Alcoholism seemed to be a key part of Hutz's character to me.

With Archie, drinking at home and drinking at his local bar were always key aspects of his character, leading up to the major arc towards the end of the series when he buys the bar. While he's rarely flat out drunk, I think that's purely because the show wouldn't work that way.

Maybe. The thing is so many characters are drinkers, but calling them drunkards implies they have a problem. That was really the goal here. That or brewmasters. Just don't feel he has a problem with alcohol.

Hmm well out of most of the ones I am familiar enough with to comment on, the only two I can think of are...

Soda Popinski - Was deliberately changed in the home console versions to NOT be an alcoholic, hence the name change, but I don't think he should be disqualified outright; maybe put a "/Vodka Drukenski" next to his name?

Angry Video Game Nerd - Doesn't really ever get drunk. Usually limits himself to one beer per review, if that.

The former is fine because that's his canon name. It was changed because Nintendo are pansies but it's fine as is.

Looking into the latter, it seems like beer consumption is a part of that persona, and his behavior kinda falls in line with what I'm looking for.

Questionable entries:

Al Bundy: Decent fan of this show. Al does like beer but I hesitate to call him acceptable for this category. He's not normally drunk that I can recall, but at the same time did name his son after a beer and got engaged while drunk. It's still questionable to me though.

Status: Leaning In

Archie Bunker: Very familiar with this show, and have always wanted Arch to make a KotM. This is the wrong one though. He's not at all a drunk. He's just an everyman who likes a cold beer after a blue collar work day. He was intoxicated twice in 9 years of this show that I can recall. It's just reaching.

Status: Leaning Out

Cliff Clavin:

Norm is definitely known more for his drinking than the rest of this cast. Just because the show revolves around a bar doesn't make everyone here that qualified for the list. I'm unsure about this one; I never really got much into Cheers so I could use some background on how he measures up to a more transcendent character like Norm.

Status: On the Fence

Commander Shepard:

One of my favorite series of all time, I can definitely say that my Shepard never drank anything the entirety of the 3 games. This is one of those personal decisions someone makes, and in KotM I much prefer to have characters that have the theme in the heart of the character. This is kinda like nominating your World of Warcraft playable character. It's just an option you have; not part of the central character, like being a soldier is to Shepard.

Who will be next to join the Hall of Kings?

Welcome to the 24th King of the Mountain, a long-running Save My style series of contests in which we crown a winner from a various job type or trope. This time around the users of the board have nominated the Drunkard. A brief explanation of the category as well as the nomination rules will follow:

Drunkard - A character whose life is greatly impacted by habitual alcohol abuse or a character that does battle in the "drunken master" style of combat.

For this category as all others, but maybe especially this one, I need you guys to be sure you're nominating characters who are largely defined by their drunken behavior. It should be a critical and central part of their personality; I am not looking for one-night benders or characters who are recovered alcoholics but it no longer influences their character. As always, King of the Mountain is designed to be a contest between characters who represent the trope properly. All entries should be able to represent the trope, should they be victorious.

Rules:

-You may nominate 5 characters every hour.
-A character needs 3 unique nominations to make the field.
-The first 100 characters fully nominated will make the field.
-Characters may be from any form of fictional media, so long as they are fictional.
-No trading nominations.
-I reserve the right to disqualify any entrant (I usually make this call at the end of nominations)
-Any disqualifications will be replaced by the next characters fully nominated.
