It's not even consistent in how it blocks content - sometimes it'll show a "this page has been blocked" page, other times it'll just show a blank page, other times it'll let the browser time out. It's really frustrating, because sometimes you'll go to a page that will load, then hang, then redirect to a "blocked" or blank page because it sources some script or resource from a site the firewall deems inappropriate.

Why offer a transmission that only 8 people in the US can drive?

My main point was that they're going with the horrendous DSP6 instead of a normal automatic like they offer in other markets. There's a class action lawsuit against Ford because of how bad that transmission is.

Ford, in their infinite wisdom, decided to make the EcoSport only available in the US with the dual clutch PowerShift box. The same one that has been causing Focus and Fiesta owners endless problems with leaking oil seals and bad TCMs. In other markets they began to offer a traditional automatic last year because of issues with the DSP6, but nope - let's introduce a new model to the US with the worst transmission as the sole option.

At least you can get the Focus and Fiesta with three pedals and still have a decent car.

This guy is a pos but administrative leave with pay is a good thing. You shouldn't have your livelyhood taken from you for doing your job or because you gave joe schmo a ticket and he decided to to file a complaint.

I think this should be a quick investigation that should end in job termination and in a perfect world arrest but paid administrative leave isn't vacation. You're required to be available for questioning whenever they decide to call, you can't leave town, you can't drink during work hours it's basically being cut a check to be available while there's an investigation.

he should have been suspended without pay

I am going to go to you'd work tell them you touched my butt and then they can suspend you without pay until you're proven innocent. Yay!

That's not even the funniest part. Check out his Wikipedia article:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Black_(politician)

Black first held elective office on the Loudoun County Library Board, where in 1997 he authored a policy that blocked pornography on library computers. To explain why the policy was necessary, he invited a reporter to film him watching rape pornography on a library computer, to show how nearby library users could also see the pornography. Librarians only received one complaint about their computers being used to view pornography - when Black did so.

The rest of the article is just standard anti-LGBT and "traditional values" nonsense.

How would this even be implemented on a technical level? Would all device manufacturers be required to implement a blocker at the software level, but only for the state of Virginia? Would Virginia ISPs be required to filter all obscene content and keep track of who has access and who doesn't? Would they push for a "Great Firewall of Virginia" that locks down the state and controls who had access to what?

It's complete horseshit on so many levels. Thankfully it'll die the death it deserves.

But yeah, just throw some print statements in there to figure out what the F is going wrong, and then fix it, and then move on to the next problem. That's what I do. Persistence is key.

or learn to use a debugger. it's an invaluable tool. once i learned to use one i never, ever, ever went back to printing out stuff as a means of debugging

use both. I have logging facilities in place to give me an idea of what's going on and to narrow down the problem, then when things go askew I fire up the debugger

With the current system I am working on, I usually have to have it running for like 6 hours before any bugs start to show up. So I've been exclusively using logging since I don't even know how you would use a debugger in a situation like that.

It's a system where I have a client constantly sending data over TCP to a server that then does some shit with it and sends some results back.

Use those logs to cook up erroneous data or activity, then create some unit tests or debugging backdoors to "force" the application to behave that way on demand?
