| trdl23 12/06/23 11:38:32 AM #54 | I'm an avid Magic fan who loves drafting, so 7 Wonders is a huge hit for me. Like other drafting games, trying to "read the signals" from what your neighbors pass you is where the strategy lies. "Picking the best card" depends on you being able to expect what future "best cards" might be, both from what your neighbors pick and from what they don't. Green cards are flowing? Go into science, figure out whether to go wide or deep in it. Find a strong blue chain? Muscle your way into it so you don't have to invest picks on a bunch of resources.
Military creates a fun sub-game of Chicken. You only ever need one more shield than your neighbors to win, and thus, having one less shield than your neighbors makes your military cards mostly useless. Knowing how much military you're passing as well as what your neighbors have already picked can inform you whether it's worth grabbing a red card to fight for military victory or whether to concede it and pursue a more focused strategy -- hopefully goading your neighbor into burning picks on unnecessary red cards. Ironically, this is why 7 wonders at max players kinda sucks. There's no opportunity to "wheel" any cards (have cards you once passed come back to you), which is the best way to read signals. The actual Wonders themselves are also a bit of a detriment; some of them push you into a specific strategy, while others are pure value - and the B-side boards are horribly imbalanced. --- E come vivo? | trdl23 11/15/23 10:06:34 PM #20 | I'm leaning toward Team Scorp here. Numbers advantage is huge for scouting, and Scorp has dealt with super strong humanoid robots before in the Cyber Lin Kuei. I actually think he's a bad matchup for Marina because he can cross her up so quickly.
HOWEVER, I don't think he can handle Marina and Sylvando together on his own, and he definitely can't get anything more than clipped by the Tomislav or he's just ventilated. Lara's going to need to put in work and snipe one of the members of Team Sylvando. Heavy is notoriously vulnerable to getting sniped! --- E come vivo? Vivo! |

Cao is honestly the lynchpin here imo. I trust that with his tactics and AMBITION that he'll command Bomberman well to avoid friendly fire. If Ryu can get through and take him out, it looks really bad for team Bomberman. --- E come vivo? Vivo! |

In my experience though, the worst part is invariably the people. There are some clever and witty plays I've seen, but in any group, the majority of the "judges" will just go with the most outrageous answer even if it's boring as hell --- E come vivo? Vivo! |

| trdl23 11/08/23 3:50:03 PM #28 | Arkham Horror (2nd edition, not the shit they sell now) is my favorite board game ever, and Eldritch Horror felt like a way worse version of it. Arkham is certainly WAY more cumbersome, but your decisions feel like they matter more, and you can more easily stack the odds in your own favor. Of course, Arkham pretty much requires the Dunwich expansion since it adds a ton of QoL; baseline Arkham is rough and prone to huge death spirals. Thematic, but not super fun.

I don't care for Yosuke or YukikoYosuke's one of my favorite characters in all of video games, but I think I'm one of very few with that take. Anyway, 4 > 5 > 3 but they're all close. 3 has the best overall story and worst gameplay, 4 has the best main cast and worst music (it's still good but not on the level of the others), 5 has the best gameplay and supporting cast but the worst main cast. I put a lot of stock in party dynamics in my RPGs, so 4 edges it out. Super excited for P3 Reload, might really push it on top. --- E come vivo? Vivo! |

We had Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario 64, FF6 (yes, Dancing Mad), FF13, two Chrono Trigger songs (plus Chrono Trigger just won BOST 6), Kirby, Layton, and two Sonic songs retire within the past two years. Plus a Mario Galaxy song almost retired recently.Thanks for the ping, but I don't really have faith. As someone who doesn't have much music theory training - I couldn't tell you what key a song is in at the drop of a hate - and as someone who was WAY too abrasive to those who did know music theory shitting on my favorites and lauding things that I thought sounded like absolute ass because they were "interesting," I don't feel I'll ever be welcome again. I only need to eat one meal a day now plus a bit of snacking, and I've been getting off my ass a lot more lately, too. I admit, I've been out of work for a while, which has made this a lot easier to focus on. As far as quality goes, the crock pot is premier bachelor cooking. A++, highly recommend. --- E come vivo?
