I absolutely agree. Cavill was tremendous. It's so sad that the DCEU and the Witcher folk couldn't sort either franchise out.

Definitely was one of the best parts of Pearl, interesting choice. I still don't think they should have dropped Cavill but oh well
It's a prequel about a twenty-year-old Clark. I don't think they had much choice.

Cluemaster
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/6/2/6/AAJ38fAAEFoK.jpg
Arthur Brown, worst father of the year, a husband of lesser ilk, a career criminal with nothing to show for it, was inspired by a dog in a riot to change his ways - somewhat - paving his path to a life in politics. The Cluemaster spent No Mans Land developing the necessary acumen to take on the role of mayor of Gotham, a role he held onto through the most turbulent year in the history of Gotham City. By the end of No Mans Land, Cluemaster had legitimately won a citywide election, officially crowning himself mayor as the city transitioned back to American soil. From there, Cluemaster, and his close personal aide, Xander Stray, made their way to Washington, winning a New Jersey Senate seat during, once again, one of the more turbulent periods in American history. In fact, the Cluemaster was riding a tidal surge of momentum that was leading him to a prominent position in the government - a cabinet seat, maybe more - when A-Day struck. Now, Arthur is the second-in-command to the Mad Hatter, the warden of Alcatraz (still a position of power). But Arthur doesnt seem content to simply travel down the path of Darkseids control of America, and in a moment of opportunity, he passed along a message to Spirit that allowed Checkmate agents to escape imprisonment and take back some prescient warnings to Zonn Zorr.

Last campaign saw the introduction of a raving madman who shouted about the price of milk, a madman who was given direction and meaning by a toddler pup. That madman became the mayor became the senator... and now we live in a world where chaos rules, villains have united, and just when you're ready to assume Cluemaster is standing against you in a hundred different places, he reveals himself in one of the most unlikely draws imaginable - Alcatraz. As its warden. Well, I mean, Arthur HAS been aiming to portray himself as the law and order candidate, after all. It's just good optics. Cluemaster's brief appearances once again reveal that though he may be the poor man's Riddler, that scale grades on a motherfucking curve. Cluemaster is plotting, has been plotting, likely started plotting the very minute he climbed on board the good ship Hatterpop, all with the aim to see that some semblance of order be restored. Arthur Brown has transformed, become a changed man. And in a world where heroes fall, it may be a villain that must save us all. Vote Brown, 2008. Our lives may depend on it.

Codpiece
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/8/6/AAQcMAAAEDJu.png
Ever compensating for things that need not be compensated for, the Codpiece is a cowardly weasel with a massive inferiority complex. Waggling around a high-tension energy cannon attached to a ball joint adorning his belt, Codpiece has spent a significant portion of his life robbing banks and existing as a laughingstock in both the hero and villain communities. His veteran status in the community, however, earned him a roving mercenary role with the Society. When Tiger Shark called for Lonos head on a platter, Codpiece was among those who sought to earn the half million dollar prize. Unfortunately, he was duped by a shapeshifting Rozetta and nearly killed by Lono. He was also nearly killed by Checkmate agents. Both times, Rozetta went to bat for Codpiece, seeing value in keeping such a useless fixture in the Society to weaken its leadership. Codpiece was left floating in a pontoon boat near northern Tampa, his fate unknown.

But what War REAAAAALLY wanted me to do was post this...

Spelling Bee
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/5/3/0/AAUHRBAAEiqC.png
This tiny little android was found on the surface of the mercenary haven planet known as Exxor. After being beaten and abused by a ruffian called the Igneous Man, the Spelling Bee was rescued from a fate of slow, painful obsolescence in a back alley junkyard by Saoirse and Nikhto. The Spelling Bee, sweet and trusting, like a tiny pet, has a unique tic which causes it to constantly spell the words it hears. Our little yellow-black friend really wormed its way into the hearts of at least a few of the players in his first session a week ago, and I imagine he'll become a key fixture in Warriors during downtime between sessions!

Kyle Rayner
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/1/6/9/AAUHRBAAEikZ.png
The Torchbearer. The Last of the Lanterns, and the First of the Lanterns. Kyle Rayner commands a great deal of respect, even among the anti-Hal Jordan hardliners in the Green Lantern Corps as a high-ranking Honor Guard member from Earth. After the rest of the Corps was destroyed by Parallax, Kyle was alone selected by Ganthet, perhaps by chance, outside of a New York City nightclub to bear the last power ring and carry on the mantle of the sole Green Lantern of the universe. Although he acted alone for many years, Kyle began to reforge the Corps himself, an act that was accelerated when Jordan returned and reignited the Central Power Battery. Kyle is considered to be behind only Salaak in the chain of command of the Corps, though he often sees himself as the fourth of the four human Lanterns in terms of experience and relies on their own experience in the field. A founding member of the JLA, Kyle is also a well-respected veteran in the hero community. Recently, Kyle proposed to Jade, the daughter of Alan Scott, though it is unknown if she accepted or not. Even more recently, Kyle was among those who were there to protect the fleeing Rannian people from the encroaching disaster of Polaris and the Golden Hands, but during that cataclysm, Kyle returned to Oa, catatonic, his body covered in a strange starfield of energy, adhering itself to the Central Power Battery, where hes remained ever since, the whys and wherefores a mystery. Though there are hints, maybe the faintest of them possible, that Kyle is reacting to changes in the world around him. A few individuals, such as Saoirse and Soranik Natu seem hellbent on finding out what triggers these small shifts in Kyle's otherwise static stasis.

The Kryptonite Woman, Kay
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/1/5/5/AAUHRBAAEikL.png
Lucia was once the partner of Sam Benjamin, and together the duo utilized Sams ingenuity and Lucias mystical stone to carry out crimes across the Americas. However, when Sam became jealous of Lucias powers, he cracked her stone in two and took the lighter half. After two years apart, Sam returned to Lucia, his own fragment of the rock cracked. This fragmented artifact had infected him, however, causing the sliver of Eclipsos gem within to take control of him. He broke Lucias stone and left her under Eclipsos thrall. After the intervention of Checkmate agents, Lucia was left without a working stone and missing a hand, barely surviving her unwilling trip to Zonn Zorr. However, thanks to the combined efforts of Constantine, Nightshade, Encantadora and Spirit, a plug was placed in her body that began to sponge up the lingering dark infection left by Eclipso. Now dubbed the Kryptonite Woman, Lucia has been slowly relearning her purpose. 'Kay' as she's called seems to remember her life, but from afar. The torture she endured to save her life has not only begun a new chapter of her story, but an entirely isolated volume that makes the rest of her existence seem almost like someone else's. Frankenstein's Monster is learning compassion, selflessness and the value of friendship - and despite a clear expiration attached to these new life lessons.

The Kryptonite Woman is a story of heart - but more important the stuff that makes a soul, the material that makes up a heart. Fueled by the gem of Eclipso (a shard of it at least), the Kryptonite Woman was in for a transplant, stat. But now powered by something that by all rights corrupts and distorts its user even in the shortest of durations, what will happen to a woman now lives with the dark specter of a dead planet? An entire identity is on the precipice of great transformation - much in the way that Tomorrow Woman is asserting her new identity through independence and individuality, what ways will kryptonite define this former supervillain of Argentina? I can't wait to see how the PCs transform this budding villain - or hero.

Kim Rebecki
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/5/4/1/AAOJ0pAADY7d.png
Kim Rebecki, a detective capable of speaking with the recently-deceased, was Mitch Shelleys partner during the most traumatic days of the Resurrection Mans life. After growing in trust and dependency for one another, Mitch was captured while leading some of the post-A-Day resistance. Learning that he was left in a perpetual state of hanging to serve as a warning to other would-be resistance leaders, Kim has taken it upon herself to free her closest friend. After running into Checkmate agents in Baltimore, Kim decided to partner with them for her mission to New York. Since that time, Kim has become the mainstay of the Z'onn Z'orr morgue, thanks to her unique ability. Although the results often end in a head crumpling like a rotten pumpkin in her grasp, new information salvaged from the recently deceased has proven invaluable. And Kim's confident attitude and ability to stomach some truly heinous scenes has perhaps helped foster a casual entanglement with Saoirse - though the boundaries are quite clear for Kim: once Mitch Shelley is rescued from Darkseid's clutches, she's all aboard the Resurrection Man ship.

Can't say this is surprising at all. Great creative team with really strong vision. The first film was sprawling and intimate at the same time and real treat to watch. The only downside was that involved Gwen Stacy, who should always and forever remain dead. But even that small slight wasn't enough to drag the film down.

The fact that Connor was uninterested in the business, and the fact he's so much older than the other kids since he's from the first marriage, really has always fascinated me. I absolutely agree that Shiv just doesn't want to let Tom go. Despite her constant pushes to denigrate him and mistreat him, she's clearly drawn to the notion of being with Tom constantly. The obediency there I think is just a painful acceptance that despite her dislike - and occasional hatred - towards Tom, she still wants to be with him. Which is to her detriment.

I couldn't disagree more. He's nothing like Logan. He's the classic case of "failing upward" by ingratiating himself with those in power. Everyone knows he's incompetent but he managed to win by being a "yes" man and sycophant. Greg is the opposite side of the coinalso an incompetent outsider but instead attempted to gain power by being duplicitous/treacherous. Neither of them would have had any chance of success without their connections, but Greg played it wrong and ended up right back where he started.

I didn't say he was "like" Logan, just that he was a self-made man in the vein of Logan, which is demonstrated by the ATN numbers really being curated under his watch, even with the devil's pact with Menken nonwithstanding. For me, the epiphany was in Ewan's not-so-eulogy, where he talks about how haunted Logan was by the death of his sister. Then, by the end of the penultimate episode, we're learning the same is true for Tom in regards to witnessing Logan's death, as well. There's a certain drive to both men, and while I think the show goes to great pains to show that Tom doesn't necessarily know how to play the sycophant game without being ham-handed, he's honest about that. At the same time, he has Logan's viciousness on full display in especially the early seasons towards Greg. It returns in full force upon his annointment however; immediately, there's decisiveness, and the same inscrutability as he marches Hugo off to summon his own executioner at the end. Tom isn't Logan - never has been - but he is the only one who has been grinding away at the company. He wants it more than anyone else; Shiv and Kendall are sweeping back into Waystar at the start of the show, Roman is Roman, but Tom? Tom may well be the only person who values Waystar in the way that Logan had in his younger days. Unfortunately, he ISN'T Logan. That's the entire point. He's as best as Logan's legacy can get - which is someone who rose to prominence from nothing, in the way that Logan did. Though Tom's rise isn't meteoric or ingenious in any way; it's through grinding away and never biting that hand that feeds you. In the end, that's something that the siblings could never really learn to accomplish (among their many other flaws).

The right man won, in the end. If you think about it, Tom is a self-made man in the vein of Logan to some extent, and regardless of how he's always been treated, he IS a man who has been grinding to the best of his abilities every step of the way.

A stunning #1 that ranked on almost NONE of the other players' lists! Wow, great job, scarlet.

The fun's not entirely over yet, though. I still have some Top 25s to drop, and I'll probably continue bullet write-ups so long as people are interested. In any event, thanks for taking this ride with me through the (almost) first half of the list!

Hal Jordan. The greatest Green Lantern. Their worst villain. The wrath of God.

When history has finished writing the tale of Hal Jordan, it is sure to be a story filled with no end of controversy. Hal Jordan was the man who succumbed to Parallax, the embodiment of fear. Hal Jordan was the man who was thought to possess the greatest force of will the Guardians had ever seen, and yet as effortlessly as he wielded his emerald ring, he was just as easily coopted by the yellow aura of fear. Hal had spent his life in service of two things - the Corps, and his hometown of Coast City, where he flew fighter jets for the love of his life, Carol Ferris. But Hal was never able to serve both of these masters at the same time, and as his professional life as a Lantern grew more prominent, Hals personal life fell apart until he had virtually abdicated all responsibilities to Ferris Air, to the woman in his life, to his family. Ultimately, however, Hal could never let go of what made Hal Jordan Hal Jordan, and when Cyborg Superman and Mongul destroyed Coast City, Hal nearly broke. Seizing this opportunity, Parallax began to worm its way into the made of the greatest Lantern, and within days, the Green Lantern Corps had been massacred, the Central Power Battery destroyed and the Guardians killed. By this point, Hal had been consumed entirely by Parallax, who used Hals mind as a template to foster further insanity. Hal was driven to try and unmake the universe, the hope to rebuild it in his own image - one where Coast City survived and thrived. Stopped by Earths heroes at the Dawn of Time, Hal retreated into space, where he brooded and planned, Parallax still inside of him. Eventually, however, when the sun began to fail, Hals greater angels arose, and taking control of himself in a moment of heroic clarity, he sacrificed his life to reignite the sun. This left his soul in a strange state of balance. In the afterlife, Hal Jordan was called upon to serve as host of the Spectre, and for years, he wrestled with Aztar for control of a mission of vengeance, one he thought of as a mission instead of mercy. However, Parallax still remained attached to Jordan, and after years of hosting two of the most powerful entities to ever exist, Parallax broke free. In this moment, the Spectre was excised from Hal Jordan unexpectedly, and Jordan had opportunity, his destiny his own again, to make right the actions of the past. Using what energies remained from the Spectre and Parallax, Hal resurrected the Guardians and reinstated the Corps. Hoping to pay penance for his actions, Hal has returned to active duty as the Green Lantern of Sector 2814, though he has begun to question the Guardians decisions in the wake of the erection of the Grid and the attacks by the Sinestro Corps.

The burden of guilt is crushing, smothering, all-consuming. It takes the greatest will in the world to carry the greatest sin imaginable. And that's the story of Hal Jordan in a nutshell.

The test pilot born in California was a natural beacon of courage and bravery, almost bull-headed and incapable of retreat or retraction. For so long, his great weakness wasn't the color yellow - it was his inability to see himself as anything other than the star, the field leader, the hero. But after the year as Parallax, things changed. Darkness settled in, and the name of Hal Jordan became a curse hurled at the worst of enemies. And as we've gone through this twisting, turning journey of redemption, reacceptance, rebirth, recharge, we've had a chance now to see what Hal's name means to the world, to the heroic community, and, most recently to the Corps he both created and destroyed.

Thankfully, it wasn't in that order.

Hal, to me, is the most fascinating character study we could have of the Big 6. This rendition of Jordan, however, is a departure from comics. I am so committed to this examination, seeing how guilt changes a man, how it serves as a replacement, in some ways, for that yellow imperfection, that simmering fear that lurks within all of us. Only great men can overcome their darkest sins. Will Hal be able to ever live with the knowledge that his hand has slain friends, teachers, mentors, brothers? Does he possess that strength of character? Or does he possess something else - a farther-reaching understanding of emotion that has led him to demonstrate enough compassion to wield the indigo light, enough rage to wield the red? Has Saoirse perhaps pique the pink light of love within him? Certainly Parallax has revealed the capacity for fear.

Hal Jordan. Multifaceted. The first true multi-colored Lantern. His past connects him to every storyline in a deep resonant way, but the future of the #1 character is where my eyes are focused as we close out this list.

#2 - Amanda Waller
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/4/9/AAOJ0pAADbtt.jpg
Honey, you don't put a queen in second place.

Amanda Waller, former Secretary of Defense, was one of many individuals implicated in the bizarre campaign waged by Lex Luthor in an insane quest to bring Superman to his knees. Waller, swayed by the charisma of one of Americas most silver tongued leaders, came to regret her role with the President at the time, and after being stripped of United States honorifics, she expected to be tried as well. However, A-Day arrived, and with Checkmate having fallen apart, Waller turned into the highest-ranking member and only leader capable of putting resources and intelligence together to combat the threats of the Society and Darkseid. Steadfast and total in her leadership of Zonn Zorr, Waller carefully shepherds her agents as they begin the massive endeavor around the world to bring hope back to those oppressed by the tyranny of Darkseid.

Amanda Waller was as far away from Oracle as I could get in the central role that has become a necessity in these campaigns. Someone must anchor the story as it spins around them, binding all of the spokes together with a firm foundation so nothing ever gets too far out of reach. Instead of the blossoming ultra-competence of Oracle, Waller represents a rather controversial figure. Her actions, unlike Oracle's, don't slowly veer towards a love for her team. Waller might not even be capable of such a thing now. Instead, the Black Queen remains a conductor of a symphony, her eyes on the brushes that paint a masterpiece, not the hands that guide them. Waller is a woman of vision and direction, not a contemplative resource - she will bite back, and hard, should the need arise. Her authority is unquestioned, all a piece of her carefully cultivated public perception, and even in moments of sincerity, there is a distance between Waller and the PCs. Given the stakes of Final Crisis, the world is less malleable in the hands of our players, and that requires a Waller, not an Oracle.

Since her debut, Waller has demonstrated a wide range of leadership abilities - intimidation, distance, nurturing and bonding. She's shown to be a giver and a taker in equal amounts. She's a teacher, she's a villain. Hell, she's a cancer survivor, to boot. But more than anything else to this campaign, she remains one thing. She's the queen.

And then, there was one.

#3 - Susie Thompkins
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/3/0/7/AAOJ0pAADaVj.png
This isn't a serious ranking.

The niece of Lois Lane, Susie Tompkins was whisked away from Kansas during the upheaval following the Battle of Metropolis. During a tour of the Doom Patrol Headquarters, Susie discovered the helmet of the long-forgotten hero Mento, and, as she donned it, she gained unimaginable abilities. Susie was overcome by the nature of the helmet, and it changed her. After trickery freed her from her capped imprisonment, Susie gravitated to Rosetta, who she saw as someone who might care for her in the way Sisty and Dinky did not. Thus, Susie came to be adopted by Rosetta, remaining at her side as long as she could manage. Rosetta, in an effort to help normalize the straying tendencies of violence in Susies mind, has enlisted tutelage from the likes of Catman and Jesse Custer to help curb the worrying nature of Susies psychopathy. It has since been found that Susie is a very big fan of cats. Recently, Susie Tompkins was selected to join a field team in Las Vegas, which resulted in her disappearance on multiple occasions, usually to surprising results. Since that time, Susie has been a member of the infiltration team, has arrested Bloodfruit for a B&E, and has slowly been cultivating Sarah Washington to be her personal OMAC.

No one fails to emote like Susie. No one silently attempts to commit heinous atrocities like Susie. And especially no one has captured the heart of the death-worshipping Saturnian cultist like Susie. And, I admit, she's especially good at the little moments. Giving her a unique "mechanic" in terms of roleplaying means that suddenly there is an extremely fresh voice to be had from a presentation perspective, but Susie goes beyond that. I admit that I am often fascinated by the mentally divergent. Susie's lack of emotions, her inability to experience empathy... these are subjects that I think have hardly ever been tackled in these campaigns, and to put such heady subjects on the shoulders of a child, one that should be a totem of innocence... I think that's a recipe for something really special. Can Susie teach herself right and wrong? Can she ever intuit what she's meant to feel? I can't wait to see. Her mother certainly believes in her, believes in giving Susie every opportunity to succeed that she can manage - but at the same time, Roz'etta isn't a firm hand. Susie is allowed to get away with certain kinds of murder. The question is, if Roz'etta pushes back, will she lose her precious little girl?

Two to go. We're halfway there.
