Ranking non-comic characters based on comic potential is actually a really deep cut! I remember running that years and years ago. I think we could field some user nominations for that.

It's been quite some time since I've started an ambitious ranking or rating topic and then abandoned it after only a couple of days. I know that ones and ones of you fine folk have enjoyed that sort of medium-rare content in the past, and what better time to get back to it than September 5th, 2023? I've always thought that was the perfect date for such tomfoolery.

In any event, I'm looking for a few good topic ideas from any and all comers. And I most definitely will pick one, initiate the process of the ranking and then likely forget about it and move on at an unsatisfying point!

Yeah, I decided to rate in comparison to just the mean average television episode. That probably puts it on a curve!

The insanity of this episode taps into a very real, visceral palpable depiction of the voyeuristic nature of tabloid society. Of course it's an overexaggeration - until it isn't. While it doesn't quite reach the level of substance as Network or other sort-of prophetic pieces of media, it's really damned good.

As someone who feeds off of voyeuristic drama observation, I heartily thank Steiner for this topic.

The right way to have handled this, likely, would have been to not mention that users who are blocked can't participate, and when it comes up, ignore the fact that ulti can't participate. If you're blocking him on the board, more power to you. You do you. But then don't even acknowledge criticism that he's blocked and just plow through the season! All of this unsolicited advice comes free of charge from someone you don't know nor care about - you're welcome.

There's always been this bizarre pushback against the notion of blocking someone, and I don't see how it's any different from curating one's timeline and trimming away unwanted content. Yes; Board 8 is a community, but in any other community, you can choose not to walk down a specific street, visit a specific home, or allow in specific guests to your home. You can ignore phone calls and block numbers. You can ghost a significant other and sever all communication. It's fine. It's a choice. No one is superior for choosing to automatically skip over the posts of Hardcore_Adult. That just stands as a preference decision. I can sympathize with the sting of rejection, certainly. But the act of blocking is not a moral failing on the part of the person who simply wants to trim the fat from their B8 experience. No different than using AdBlock.

For the record, I put people on ignore sometimes, but usually because I'm steamed and find it the easiest way to cool off and not try to re-engage in a stupid argument for eternity.

Some actors are just so distinctive in their own mannerisms, appearance and voice that they simply can't create versatility. I enjoy Mantzoukas in most everything in which he appears. He's similar to Danny Trejo. I get the theory of oversaturation and sameness in everything, but that sameness almost always works, so it doesn't bother me.

My grandmother died three hours from her 100th. It was during the pandemic, and we couldn't plan a get together outside of Zoom. I thought it was so tragic and pathetic given how many people were inspired by her, loved her, moved by her. Just the worst time to commemorate a human life.

Oh and why is Emilia Clarke of all people the villain? Like, I guess I've only seen her previously as Sarah Connor in Terminator: Genisys, but apparently her character went crazy in the last season of Game of Thrones and that became one of the most derided aspects of it? Why would Marvel want to repeat that?

Gabi represents perhaps the greatest threat to human existence since the atomic bomb. Her very nature is an affront to mankind and she should have been exterminated alongside the entire script of Vivo and everyone who worked on it should have been committed to an insane asylum for examination, that they could produce something so godlessly awful with wanton disregard for the rest of their species.

I try not to let trailers influence me, but man, did that trailer seem super generic. Jaime has long been a beloved standby for me (and for so many others) in the DCU. Seeing a character that debuted when I started getting into comics and kind of grew up alongside me having this opportunity is pretty exciting.

My issue isn't that it's hard to understand, it's that there's are major events in these character's lives that happen in movies that are part of a different series.

So really this is me just dumping that I am super over the whole crossover universe situation. The best comic book movies of the last several year have been self contained IMO.

Watched the entire series in the last few days. It's no contender for show of the year, but I'm far more interested in a second season than I expected to be. Anthony Mackie really demonstrated a certain leading man breeziness here that he certainly wasn't given chance to show in FatWS. And Joe/Arnett did a fantastic job bringing Sweet Tooth to life.

I've always dreaded the very idea of talking on the phone. It's a bizarre thing because I'm not bad at it by any means; I've always been told I'm personable on the phone, but it's getting over that hump of dialing and initiating that for some reason just instills dread in me. The phone is just this mystical thingamajig that gets my anxiety pumping, regardless of the situation.

Mass Effect 1 is great.

This combo meal has had me hyped for months. Unfortunately, my schedule precludes me from seeing either this weekend, but I'm so freaking stoked to see great reviews on both films.

I suspect it's to get as much out of IMAX screenings as possible since they are getting bounced by Oppenheimer very quickly.

I don't know, but I'm excited to see how James Gunn plays with the DCU at this point; lots of really interesting casting.

I've watched all of season 1 of the bear. The show has no idea what it wants to be and the reveal at the very end of the season makes literally no sense in the grand scheme of the entire season you've just watched .

Lasso is far and away a better show, imo.

edit: the acting is great in the bear. I'll give it that

It actually is potentially still in the works. This is something that happens with some shows that were initially planned as limited series and end up going full. It's a way to grab accolades with a little more ease than they would otherwise.

He had a fate worse than death in the Arrowverse.

Interesting idea to go 50's for Guy Gardner, honestly. It means you're probably replacing him with Hal or John, rather than the other way around at some point.

Remember how Fillion was in the running for Hal back in like 2005-06? What a strange full circle we've come.

Man, I'm actually in the boat of thinking this is the dullest Marvel show yet. Such wasted potential for a bonkers gonzo concept.

The story in question is set in Canada.

Yeah. It's bizarre to hear a tragic personal story about a dog being hit by a train and then decide to backseat pet own over it.

Four episodes in this season were in the running to be the best episodes of the year of any television show - I would agree the Review is still the best of the bunch out of this show so far, but I mean, the quality this season was somehow even better than last season. From start to finish, one of the most quality television seasons in recent memory.

Plus, they did the living-on-a-boat-in-Holland thing ten times better than Ted Lasso in the same year.

Gotta echo this. I'm not a children's TV viewer at all, it just wasn't in the DNA of my family, growing up, so most everything here is new to me! Really interesting.

Amazing the line the show walks with Richie; I feel as though I've come to understand so much about who he is and what makes him tick that they've won me over. He might well end up on my character of the year list with this combination of writing and performance.
