Last topic Spike's various monkey-catching traps were no match for DK's superiority in practically every category. Today is a Nintendofest, starring the star of various Fire Emblem games. Ike can handle entire armies, but can he deal with a Kong?

New round, new voting gimmick! Not sure if I'll stick with this, but I'd like to give each match a score between 1 and 5 to correspond with how strongly I feel about my vote. Even if Spike does succeed in catching DK, the net sends captured monkeys back to the Professor's lab, so once Spike goes back to the lab himself, DK will be there waiting for him and ready for round 2.

Personally I'd count being removed from the arena and unable to return as a victory for Spike. Does that set a bad precedent?

• he has a variety of offensive equipment and techniques, including a boxing glove that can obliterate machinery
• VS Battles Wiki says he's "continent class" in both striking strength and durability...is Donkey Kong "continent class," huh?

• DK might not be continent class, but he is certainly Kongtinent class

Last topic we had a real debate going between DK and the 1985 Chicago Bears, but ultimately fifty well padded humans were not enough to take down one very ripped ape; DK won, 21-11, in what will probably be a record high vote total for this topic series. Here it is, my top 50, with prime #4507 rounding out the ranks! I don't know what I expected going into prime, but I think it's pretty great. Some parts are stronger than others, certainly, but those strong parts are very strong.

This top 50 would surely look a little different if I redid it today, but this should give you a general idea of my favorites in this year's contest. It's been an exciting field!

Lots of "me songs" today: Mystic Quest, NES chip, an intense and somewhat abrasive battle-esque theme, and two 9+s (which are sadly in the same match).

If I redid this list right now, Emotional Overload would go in between Blue Orb and Home Sweet Home.

I supported Tachi but Battle With the Devil is one of my favorite Mitsuda pieces. Really brutal match.

• does he have any sort of guilt Pyramid Head can capitalize on? Is he free from the weight of sin?
• DK probably listens to Fear Factory from DKC1, and that song is spookier than Pyramid Head

How much would DK be affected by being blown around, anyway? It's been a really long time since I've seen the Air Man fight, but I feel like DK's only chance is if he can shrug off Air Man's attacks.

Diddy and Dixie encounter wind in a few stages in DKC2, and they're affected by it but can maneuver. Not sure how Air Man stacks up to wind like that.

Donkey Kong just has to beat Wood Man first.
