Survival horror games. Initially I got stuck on the piano puzzle on Silent Hill 1. I was only aware of the FAQs. I was tired of getting stuck on parts of a video game all weekend. It was cool to finally have a place to help you get over these road bumps.

Ironically, Silent Hill 2 was how I discovered the boards. There was a plot breakdown/discussion FAQ. Probably still here, and it dissected a lot of really cool stuff that went over my head. I wanted to talk to other people about it, and I found the boards as a result.

It would be a little while more before I found there were committed social boards.

Boards were fun back then. People would talk about their job, or their day at school, or speculate about video games. They didn't just post about politics all day every day. There was even some guy that made a topic about catching his girlfriend cheating on him, and fighting the dude who did it in the park.

Oh man I remember a big ass plot guide for resident evil from a guy called president evil. Shit was great.

I came here many many years ago when segasages was still a thing. A link to a few walkthroughs.

I joined the boards back in 2001 to discuss Resident Evil Gaiden then 9/11 happened and I started posting on WOT / UK board and also the P/C board cause they had some cool stuff on underground secret bases etc.

Only posted on and off until maybe 2005 when I split with my girlfriend and was alone in a city for six months with nothing to do and posted a lot more and been here since then.

Im here for the news and game discussions but also the drama and arguments.

I was aware of CE for a while but it always moved too fast for me to keep up. I only started posting on CE a few years back when the UK board got too toxic for me and CE seemed like a good place for discussions and drama. It still doesnt disappoint tbh.

Gamefaqs was already failing before fandom. Seems like they want to reboot the site entirely and get the old user base out for a newer and younger userbase

And weeks on no one has been able to explain why making CE private would help achieve that.

Hey. Im not denying it was dying. Im criticising long standing members of the site welcoming the changes with open arms and saying we should be greatful for it! As Ive said multiple times already why are people celebrating the site staying alive if it changes so much the reason we are here in the first place no longer exists?!

Yeah it does come across as disingenuous with how hes gone from criticising the site on Reddit, boasting about getting 261 shut down and CE being made private and now advocating further changes and how we should be thankful for everything fandom has done to date.

I get fandom feel they need to make changes to keep the site viable. But if the changes they make continue in the same vein as they have so far it wont be a site Ill personally want to visit.

This is what I dont get with guys like sterolizer. They keep proselytising about the need for fandom to make changes to stop the site from dying. But if that results in the social boards closing the site might as well be dead to a lot of the existing user base who will leave. There is nothing to be gained supporting the site to transition to something none of the long term users want to visit anymore.

There really does need to be a peace keeping force sent to Gaza. Get the Saudis in to run the place imo. Theyve had decent progress in building relations with Israel in recent years and that would be a great show of faith from KSA and theyll deal with Hamas as appropriate.

This place is headed to an early grace if it doesnt attract more people. That we know. So I guess Im off belief we should be willing to work with the changes for the possibility that the platform can attract new uses, or possibly even reengage the older ones that have long left this place behind

I noticed you closed the other topic when asked how fandom should attract new users and why closing CE would help towards that goal. You made some vague reference to CE putting people off coming to the site then ignored everyone who said you needed fifty karma to visit it before it was closed.

I guess the only other point to raise is why do you see keeping the site alive in of itself is important enough even if the solution to that goal is to remove the thing the current board users come to the site for?

Yeah Ill be sad to see the site die but Ill tell you what if they get rid of the social boards Id stop coming anyway. So it might as well be dead to me in that situation as Ill stop coming.

Which version are you playing?

I'm playing it on PS5 and haven't had any issues.

Literally as soon as you can control your character I go into the menu and start browsing the stats and it just hangs. Music still plays. Thought my controller has disconnected or something but I could go back to the PS front end. Hopefully a one off but not a great first impression.

How's the HQ \ Castle by the way? Is it as deep as Ni No Kuni 2?

Game literally crashed within 5 minutes for me. Was going through some menus and it just froze.

I mentioned this in the discord earlier, but I think they don't understand that the boards help support the guides. How many people are coming to this site exclusively to write guides? You already don't get a ton of new ones written for new games. Baldur's Gate 3 was massively popular and it has one walkthrough, a guide for each class all written by the same person, and one more druid guide.

Most people who want to do that kind of work aren't going to come to GameFAQs, write the guide, and then leave. They're going to make a video and post it on Youtube. Killing the boards cannibalizes the point of the site.
