In retrospect its pretty wild just how square just sort of.....fumbled around with both final fantasy 13 and then final fantasy 15 in this way. Final fantasy 14 too what with them having to do a completely reset and then do-over of that game.

I remember being hyped way back when with those FF13 versus and then agito videos.

Guess thats how they got a lot of us in the first place.....flashy fmv videos, a whole lot of too cool baggy 2000s outfits, flashy sword or swordkey fighting and nice music to accompany it all, lol.

trailers around this point is what got me on board. it showed just enough to make it look like a feasible game.

15 was just ok

Going from 15's (and by extension Vs13's) trailers to the actual 15 was such a sucker punch.

It really felt like they put all their attention into cool trailers and premature spinoff material and forgot to actually work on the game itself.

(Also, I enjoyed when Noctis went to bed at one point and his dream was just a fully copy-pasted trailer that didn't even foreshadow anything, and then was never brought up again.)

I remember there was a gameplay trailer from when leviathan shows up that looked fucking awesome that literally never showed up in the game at all.

15s vibes and atmosphere are so good but actually playing the game is so disappointing. The plot had so much potential but it uses literally none of it to its advantage.

Ive tried so hard to enjoy 15, but the game is still unfinished even in its current state. A fully realized 15 is such a what if in my mind.

it took them like a decade to finish the game and it was nothing like originally intended or advertised

really just dumb decision after dumb decision. it's no surprise they're riding high on milking the absolute hell out of ff7, everything else they've done recently is pretty much just shit.

FF16 was fine. Neo Twewy was good, but niche and they didn't market it at all. And FF14 will always do numbers.

But yeah, it does seem like they're still trying to make up for 15's mistakes, and FF7 is the easiest way to farm sales.

SE's FF marketing is always better than the games.
