I got to see Mount Eerie open for Big Thief towards the end of 2019 and he ended up playing a couple Microphones songs as well. It was an amazing show all around.

that sounds like a great show. I don't think he was the opener for the Big Thief show that was here around that time, was someone I didn't know. Almost went but think I did something else that night, but with songs and instrumentals being my favorite Big Thief/Lenker album yet, I am much more fond of them now than I was then (not to say I wasn't a fan).

Last concert I saw before all the venues closed down was Yves Tumor with Ecco2k opening. Was an amazing show. I think it was their last show before they cancelled their tour too because it was right in the middle of March. I think the next day California started closing down and everything else was to follow.

Twin Peaks S1 and S2 and Fire Walk With Me are your first Lynch then I imagine? I mean definitely check out Mulholland Drive from him. I actually remember distinctly the first time I watched it I made a topic or a poll on here asking what movie I should watch and ESP_Samus said Mulholland Drive, probably 8 years ago by now, jeez. Didn't become my favorite Lynch until rewatching it though. Eraserhead another classic by him for sure, but thats definitely in a completely different vein of Lynch surrealism, so don't go into that expecting similar to Twin Peaks.

You might want to check out David Cronenberg also. He is most known for body horror but I think its a good recommendation for another big director that is comparable. Maybe check out Dead Ringers or A History of Violence, or if you haven't seen The Fly with Jeff Goldblum, might as well check out that since its just a classic movie regardless.

Also DEFINITELY Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut. My favorite by him, just an incredible sleepy dream-like movie.

Could recommend more niche stuff if you want, but figured I'd just list some places I would recommend to start.

Hell yeah, always love the annual Melo album list topic. Almost missed it. Have you listened to The Microphones in 2020 @MrMelodramatic ? I seem to recall you really liking Mount Eerie, but I might be misremembering.

Made this the other day on https://www.neverendingchartrendering.org/ of my top 50 of the year, since I pretty much have caught up to everything I have wanted to check out. Figure i'll just post it instead of typing out my top 25/50 whatever. Plus then you can see all the album art.

Honestly its hard to even comprehend how you two have managed to still share a bed together despite having broken up. Seems unhealthy, but I understand that neither of you are ready to really part from each other in that way after having been together for so long.

And I wouldn't read into him trying to move on as a reflection of you at all. Seems clear that you had a great relationship, but having kids/not having kids is just too big of a compromise for it to keep on succeeding in the long run; he would keep trying to hold it over you and that would definitely eat away at both of you, especially as he starts to get older.

Wish you both the best :)

Also, at least in America, when we say 'they died of covid plus one or more underlying conditions', that usually doesn't mean much, as things like obesity, high collateral, anxiety, high blood pressure, etc. count as underlying conditions. A lot of people, if not the majority of the country, has something that would qualify as an 'underlying condition' in the way people seem to talk about it to discount the deaths due to Covid in America. (Not sure if its the same in the Ireland/the video you mentioned, but its important to note nonetheless)

So I called and complained and got the usual we cant contact the driver blah blah blah but we will have them deliver it tomorrow.

I was awake, at the computer, with the door open, refreshed and attempted delivery. So I called immediately. They told me they had tried and left a sticky note. I said no they didnt as I had the door open for 2 hours waiting on them... so they offered to try again on Monday or I could go pick it up.

So for my lunch break thats what I did. Of course I barely made it down there and got attitude from the guy at the desk why are you even here? Because your driver claimed to attempt delivery twice and we never saw him.

They really should have the option to leave a number and have the driver call you if you are having trouble for more places, because yeah this just sounds infuriating, and especially when its something you kind of need like high speed internet, and you arent able to get it right away because of human error.

My complex has 8 different buildings, A through H, and they are laid out kind of haphazardly and are barely labeled at all (each building has maybe one plaque with the building number, and generally not where one would go looking for it, I don't get it)

So I don't think this is true at all. Just giving an apartment number and building letter, someone could potentially be walking around for 10+ minutes trying to find it without instructions.

Drew a little diagram because I felt like it.
This is basically how it is laid out, and the whole complex has an address on the major road. I am back in Building D though(and all the buildings are 2 story with little courtyards in the middle, and all apartment doors leading to the courtyards).

So if I just gave someone my address, they would most likely turn in from the major road to that first parking lot, and then have to look all over the complex for building D.

So usually I write in the instructions to park along the neighborhood road in the back, and that building D is the one right behind the main parking lot in the back.

the exception only applies to when the weapon "is being used in target practice under the supervision of an adult or in a course of instruction"

so yeah, at the VERY LEAST, he is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor

Yeah, he came from out of state, shot someone down the street.. Then when people realized it was him they tried to stop him and he shot two more people. He killed two people. The cops told him thanks for coming out and gave him a bottle of water.

So maddening. Even in the best-case fantasy scenario where he was 100% justified in shooting people as self-defense, the police would still be immediately holding him, since they don't have a way of knowing if it was in self-defense or not at the time. The fact that he was able to walk towards the police, occasionally touching his long gun, and the police not only don't shoot him, but don't even arrest him and let him leave the state, fucking tells you all you need to know.

thats about as clear cut of a justifiable shooting as you can get caught on camera including the third person shot in that moment who pulls a gun on him before getting it in the arm. everything surrounding that event might be what fucks him, but not the shooting itself.

If a person just shot someone, and someone else tried to disarm the shooter, they would be (and should be) considered a hero in normal circumstances.

One more thing, based on what I've heard about the film and how wildly different it is from how Netflix is marketing it... I wouldn't be at all surprised if Netflix was banking on the controversy as an attempt to promote the film. Like, if there wasn't controversy, would any of us have heard about this small indie French film by a Sengalese women? Hell no, but now that they have sparked this controversy a lot of people are going to be watching it.

Yeah definitely a big fuck you to Netflix for how they decided to promote this film, but from what I've heard the film is critiquing how culture (particularly for Black girls in France) pushes young girls towards this sexualization as the only counter-point to conservative upbringings, taking on the director's own experience being a daughter of Sengalese Muslim parents in Paris.

Fire starts in fireworks wearhouse, spreads next door, boom.
