This. It's all about the writing, oral arguments matter very little except as a chance to screw up and confirm that you should lose.

And as another poster said, they didn't even bother to identify what she actually did or what arguments she made that saved the day. If those arguments were in the briefs, that's what actually matters. If they weren't, that's poor lawyering and the administrations is probably going to lose.

I think Mando wins if he keeps his armor on, there's no way for Oberyn to stab him, and Oberyn has never faced the power of GUN.

Hand to hand with no armor and no projectiles, Oberyn dominates.

If there was evidence that he still did shit like this, and that he hasn't changed, i could see it. But it sounds like people are just dragging him for things he did when he was 14-16.

Most teen boys manage not to commit violent hate crimes against minorities. I was a teen once and I somehow fought that urge! It seems to be pretty easy to avoid getting dragged into actually because even most KKK members and Neo Nazis avoid it. Maybe have one of those guys who didn't attempt to murder an innocent Asian man present the award to an Asian man? Just a thought.

It's what the system is set up to produce. Immigration laws function to facilitate atomization, fear, and exploitation.

Corporations and individuals want cheap, exploitable labor.

People in other countries want their kids to experience better, safer lives, while sending remittances.

Government agencies don't want to rock the boat and upset exploitation that produces profits, and even if they did, the exploiters take the profits they get through exploitation and use to get politicians that will lower taxes and slash the power and staffing of agencies that could police it.

Republicans have a more than 2 to 1 advantage in both houses of their legislature. They're implementing a central feature of fascism: when given power, they say that certain types of people (LGBT people, professors, minorities, women) and certain types of thought (anything that does not glorify the nation, whiteness, Christianity, or the market) are the source of bad things in society and that certain types of people are being ideological just by existing in public (LGBT people, women). Their response is to strip rights from these people, surveille them, criminalize them, remove them from public life and public influence. That's exactly what they're doing nationwide, right now.

After Ron DeSantiss months of attacks on colleges, schools, teachers, librarians, and students, the Florida governor is now pushing a sweeping legislation package that further threatens academic freedom at Florida universities.

House Bill 999 presents radical concentrations of power, taking liberties away from students and teachers and instead subjecting them to constant surveillance and paranoia for simply trying to embrace a fulsome education.

The bill calls for the removal of degrees in gender studies and critical race theory (or any derivative major or minor of these belief systems, perhaps left intentionally ambiguous) and bars anything else that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion. The bill also prohibits universities from promoting, supporting, or maintaining any program or campus activities that espouse diversity, equity, and inclusion or Critical Race Theory rhetoric.

The bill additionally directs university boards of trustees to be responsible for faculty hiring, and reads that a faculty members tenure could be reviewed at any time. In a vacuum, that may not seem inherently bad; given the chiling nature of the rest of the bill (and the broader Florida academic context), such a note suggests a regime eager to threaten tenure loss for those who step out of bounds.

If that all wasnt enough, the bill also says that general education courses may not suppress or distort significant historical events or include a curriculum that teaches identity politics, such as Critical Race Theory, or defines American history as contrary to the creation of a new nation based on universal principles stated in the Declaration of Independence. And they ought to promote the philosophical underpinnings of Western civilization.

These general education courses further must promote the values necessary to preserve the constitutional republic through traditional, historically accurate, and high-quality coursework, and cannot be based on unproven, theoretical, or exploratory content.

The standards are largely to be overseen by the state Board of Education and Board of Governorsbodies whose members are appointed by the governor. And so determinations of what does and does not constitute diversity, equity, and inclusion, or values necessary to preserve the constitutional republic, or even accurate are all ill-defined, amorphous, and ambiguous enough for Governor DeSantiss authoritarian regime to carry out its desire to carve away any chance for Florida students to maintain a holistic and open-minded education.

House Bill 999 is indeed a focused continuation of DeSantiss assault against academic freedom. But it is also a broader test: about how much power an aspirational fascist state executive can openly accumulate in America.

http://newrepublic.com/post/170770/florida-republicans-new-bill-may-biggest-attack-academic-freedom-yet

Stolen shamelessly from McSame_as_Bush. This has me big big mad. I don't think this article even does justice to just how fascist this is. This is a personal and ideological takeover of higher education in Florida. He and people he hires get to decide who can teach based on their ideology, without the ability of people like professors, other staff, and likely students to provide a check. They get to decide what materials, subject matter, and schools of thought comply with the values they want to promote and what doesn't.

Of course they're going to use this to produce their ideal jingoistic, ahistorical, money grubbing, blinkered citizen. They don't even want society to have the option or space to think of any alternative to what they enforce.

There's a difference between being socialized and attracting women. And it's also possible to be overly socialized.

Basically the issue here is you guys start with the presumption that there's something wrong with the men. When people instead post about some aspect of life women are doing worse in, less people presume fault on their part.

Now obviously there's a group of people who shouldn't be dating, but their overlap with the group of people who can't date isn't perfect.

As I said in the post I just made, it's not just men who are undersocialized, it's a generational change that's affected everyone. But because of the different expectations placed on men and women and the different circumstances we each face, the effects are different.

There doesn't even have to be an issue with men for us to see some of the effects we're seeing, some of it is just caused by women having more freedom and more resources. But then you add the undersocialization that affects a crucial aspect of interpersonal relations, and it creates additional issues.

It's not even describing fault, it's just describing the reality. We are all affected by things far beyond our control. I'm describing forces that affected me, and made me a certain way, not finding fault with men.

The implication that young men are babies and that young women arent is a massive girls rule, boys rule vibe. If young men have nothing to offer, neither do young women. Because young people in general are struggling.

Because men being babies and emotionally stunted is not why young men are alone, imo. Yet this topic seems to run with that as the reason.

Id also claim women dont innately know how to express their emotions, but I dont think anyone is interested in that conversation.

Please dont try to claim my opinion is wrong btw. I feel this topic is giving off a certain bias. If you disagree, thats cool. But dont go assuming things about me. Just ask me why I think so.

There's no implication that men are babies and women aren't. It's not necessarily about maturity, it's about the skills and experience necessary for success at this current moment in our culture. Due to less socializing in general, and fewer resources, men are less able to appeal, while women need less from us financially and still have significantly larger social circles and more social training.

I think everyone is emotionally stunted, not just men because of generational differences in how we spend time and for economic reasons, but in a culture where men are still expected to approach and women will be approached regardless of their skill or what they want, the consequences are different. It used to be that men could appeal out of necessity or because they were a provider. Both of those have been greatly lessened, and now the emphasis is more on whether you're enjoyable to be around, what your values are etc. I mean talk to your female friends and they'll explain all the risks and opportunity costs of getting involved with a guy that you're not sure about.

I don't think women know how to innately express emotions, it's cultural training that gives them that ability, and socialization that trains them to be more aware of others emotions and allows them more practice at expressing a wider range of those emotions. Culture and economics set how wide social circles are, how much free time people have, where they spend it, and what they do during that time, how much it takes to support a family etc. I don't think anyone has made the claim that women are inherently superior or that men are inherently inferior. The whole discussion has been around culture and circumstance, not any inherent failure of men.

While posts like this get refuted immediately:

Is kinda why people assume certain things about the posters here and their bias.

This topic, intentionally or not, is giving off strong girls rule, boys drool vibes.

Just thought Id give my observation.

There's no conflict between the posts discussing the challenges men face and these posts. I know that because I've made both. We all seem to agree that men are under socialized and don't have the resources to offer that they used to. But when we recognize that such a state of affairs makes many young men unattractive to women, especially since the economic dependency of women has been greatly reduced, you don't seem to like that. There's no girls rule boys drool vibe here, that's just your preexisting inclination to see unfair criticisms of men everywhere. I have no interest in dunking on men and lionizing women as I'm a man myself who has been a very late bloomer when it comes to relationships (if I've bloomed at all).

That guy got refuted because there's not really any proof that lonely straight guys are starting to date each other in any significant number.

These points about isolation and lack of socialization are all true, but that doesn't automatically conflict with the toxic masculinity point. My view is that in the past, people were significantly more socialized, both for better and for worse. People got a lot more instruction on how exactly they were supposed to act in general and how they were supposed to interact with women. Now, we've cut a lot of the toxicity, but also just cut back on socialization in general. So young men have some vague idea of what they're not supposed to do, but also only a vague idea of what they're supposed to do and significantly less practice at doing it.

That leaves women faced with men who don't know what they're doing, so they may only see the toxicity and none of the charm. That leads to rejection which leads to further toxicity from a subset of men hurt by rejection and genuine long term loneliness.

These young men had an idea that it wasn't this hard in the past and it's not supposed to be that hard. And it's true that it was easier in the past, but a lot of that ease rested on the cultural and economic subjugation of women that's not coming back. So what these men need is non-toxic socialization for the modern era. We still haven't fully worked that out as a society, and that leaves room for the PUAs, incels, and Andrew Tate types who sell these young men on the idea that unreconstructed masculinity is and always will be the only way to attract women.

I still don't know what "toxic masculinity" is, and it sounds like something more or less made up when you say things like:

This sounds like a preacher talking about religion to me.

Nobody likes it when someone's angry. No one likes to see somebody crying. Which emotions do women want to see more of, anyway?

I don't really believe this. Any men ITT remember being taught not to express emotion? I don't. And school always tried to get you to express yourself constantly.

People aren't taught to do that. They learn to do that on their own, because of trauma.

Yeah, how...awful?

I don't think that men actually do this, at all. Also you kind of just repeated the first one.

This whole thing sounds like a myth. It even has an overly dramatic name to it.

If you can look up stoicism, why not look up toxic masculinity and educate yourself about what it is? And why are you so sure it's made up when you don't even know what it is? You sure seem to have strong opinions on it, like that it's overdramatic and that men don't actually do any of the things people have been complaining about men doing (including men).

It's not about not never being angry or crying all the time, it's about being able to express emotion in a way that's appropriate for each circumstance and healthy for others around you. Sometimes being angry is very appropriate and it would inappropriate to not be angry. Sometimes crying is appropriate as well and not sharing heightened emotions that may include crying is inappropriate. But one particular straightjacket view of masculinity says it's not acceptable, and that's not good for anyone. Some would even say those forms of masculinity are...poisonous? Venomous? Noxious?

Thor 2 or 4.

This. I'm not sure whether boring or cringey is worse. My crew that I watched Thor 2 left in silence and basically never discussed the movie again. I watched Thor 4 and immediately lost 60 percent of my faith in the MCU.

"Women don't want emotionally distant men."
They wouldn't be as emotionally distant if they hadn't spent their entire life alone.

That's an issue of practice and it's a real issue, but I don't think it's the core issue. The core issue is that many many men are taught that masculinity means putting up barriers, stoicism, hiding emotions other than anger. That's the default in our culture and it's getting increasingly out of step with what leads to a good life and what women want from men.

That leaves men in an awkward in-between place where they are emotionally stunted, unable to constructively communicate even if they wanted to, and scared to even try because the reality is, they will often get negative feedback for doing so or doing so badly. At the same time, people are being expected to demonstrate skills they were never taught, never had modeled, and never practiced, and unfortunately, those skills are in fact necessary.

It's kinda like the coal miners in West Virginia that have been taught to live and work a certain way, but then STEM jobs become necessary, and are in fact way healthier and more lucrative, but they were never taught any of the steps to get from here to there.

Have you MET dudes in their 20s? A huge number bring little to the table at best and are an active detriment at worst. When women aren't literally required to date these guys to avoid ending up living with their parents or on the streets....they don't.

Looking back, I didn't bring that much to the table at 20-25. I was in better shape, but that's about it. I was still lacking basic knowledge about important things.

Some of it legit looked like Spy Kids with more detailed costumes and more Morrowind style bloom. I don't blame them at all, there's no doubt that they're incredibly talented and given enough time and support, they'd produce miracles.

I know someone who's a big shot in the Jehovah's Witnesses

He said he wasn't trying to convert me

Turns out he was forking my personal info over to his cult in the hopes of an eventual conversion

(Mormons have similar tactics)

How'd you find this out?

That was by far the most reasonable Shapiro has ever been.

Also, these AI things are gonna cause a major political incident. Even a few months ago, it was obvious that they were AI generated, but now, it's pretty much at the level where I wouldn't even doubt unless I knew beforehand.

By this time next year, you'll have people OAN posting videos of Biden saying he's declaring that all Trump voters must report to their nearest FEMA re-education camps and the only brakes depend on how believable OAN watchers find that.
