This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. Low Fodder for Obama - I can't see an ex-president as recent as him doing too well in a contest, and from what I've seen people are pretty divided on how well he did during his term.

Cody I saw is Mid Fodder. He was never that special of a character during his Final Fight days, but his Street Fighter incarnation made him a fan-favorite among the fanbase. Based on the performance of SFV (a game with notably bad reception) in GOTD2, there still seems to be a sizable SF fanbase left on the site.

Agree with Low Fodder for Samurai Goroh.

I will say High Fodder for Tom Nook. His CB9 performance wasn't bad, but I don't think he will boost that much from it based on New Horizons. He might have turned in a worse performance had he been in CBX, judging by Isabelle bombing in it.

second re-ranking of Jimi Hendrix. I think it is primarily classic rock fans who know and respect him and anyone else will have no incentive to vote for him.

agree with metalmind's ratings.

Archer is no longer relevant to the Fate series, but he is a greatly praised character so I don't think he drops to law. For Nebula I think she is borderline mid due to her importance in Endgame, however I have yet to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2, so I don't know how big her role was there. And BB-8 is just "tiny not-R2".

Agree with Re-ranking Inkling. I think our original ranking did assume that the Splatoon series would have strength. But Splatoon 2 did not do well in GOTD2, so yeah.

Anyway here are predix:

1) Super Mario Bros.
16) E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial - ET could secure a higher seed based on joke votes, but I understand putting it here since nominations could be thrown out. It could actually beat a lot of games in the bracket but certainly not SMB.

8) Donkey Kong 3 - Adventure is not a world beater but I expect DK3 to be really weak.

Everyone knows who Tom Brady is so he won't be law fodder. However he will be potentially bad Low Fodder, as only Patriots fans actually like him, and I expect him to be anti-voted by a lot of other NFL fans.

Mid Fodder for Joe Musashi. Shinobi was one of Sega's flagship series in the Mega Drive/Genesis days, and Joe was their their answer to Ryu and Ninja Gaiden. No character can go wrong being a ninja either. However like Ninja Gaiden, the Shinobi series has all but ended with the last release being for 3DS VC in 2013. But I think Shinobi was big enough in the 90s to easily boost Joe past low fodder.

Low Fodder barely for Valkyrie. Her only major appearance was in Thor 3, which luckily was a good movie. She'd easily be law if her major appearance was in Thor 1 or 2.

Lilith might be the strongest character from Borderlands and has the waifu potential, but I think even she falls to Low Fodder. Because for some reason she was never playable in the series past BL1, and relegated to an NPC in following games. I think that's too much for her to overcome.

In previous years Gyarados could have been low mid, but I think it probably suffers a bit due to being a "edgy badass" type of Pokemon. The site has shifted older in recent years, which has not appeared to benefit that type of character.

Tiger Woods is honestly too well-known to be law, so I will say Low Fodder. Yes his games didn't make much of an impact and he has had some extremely publicized off-field controversies. But he's still a household name due to how dominant he was at golf in the 90s and 00s.

yes no one has heard of Crusader of Centry (hence why it took so long to find the main character to nominate). However the mere fact that his name is "Corona" gives him massive potential to pick up joke votes as long as the aptly-named virus is around, so I say Low Fodder for him. He'll drop back down to law at some point next year.

It's Mr. Burns in a contest match. . . kill it!

Low Fodder. He is well-known and some people might like him, but he'll be anti-voted due to being a comically cruel mizer, and anti-voted a second time as a joke.

Agree with Mid Fodder for Patrick. He has a lot of memorable memes from the early episodes of Spongebob and has a larger presence in games than the likes of Squidward or Mr. Krabs. However I expect he'll see some anti-voting due to the annoyance he became in later episodes of the show.

I believe that Abby is the character that much of the series fanbase is divided on. Regardless she'll be Low Fodder now since I don't think many people will have played TLOU2 on the site yet.

When was the last time you saw a mention of Lost Odyssey on the internet? From what I can tell literally no one remembers this game, and it doesn't help that it never got a release outside of Xbox 360. And Kaim appeared during the game's peak relevance and stunk it up, so yeah. LAW Fodder.

Akira Yuki I think can scrape out Low Fodder. Any other VF character would probably be law, but Akira does at least have some appearances outside the series - he's actually playable in quite a few Sega games and DoA5 as well. More importantly perhaps he is an Assist in Smash Ultimate. I could also see him getting votes from old school fighting game fans.

Like Madeline, Meat Boy can move up to Mid Fodder. Him being the namesake of his game should let him track closely to his game's strength, which is very much liked on Gfaqs.

Starfire I will put at Mid Fodder. Her match pic will get a lot out of the TJF, and she's well-known thanks to the Titans cartoon (reminder that TTG is still running). But doesn't have much of a gaming legacy and while the cartoon should have a pretty good watch rate among Gfaqs, I'm not sure that anyone who hasn't seen it would care for Starfire.

It's funny to me that Maki came up for rating before Guy or Cody. She's obviously Low Fodder - she's not particularly well-known and her only notable game appearances are Final Fight 2 and Capcom vs SNK 2. But she is a hot ninja girl, so she has that going for her.

Low Fodder for Sue Storm. She is by far the least popular member of the F4, however she still benefits some just by being an original member. Plus Jessica Alba played her in 2 movies in the 2000s, something that a lot of Gfaqs surely remember having been in their teens at the time.

Madeline can move up to Mid Fodder. Celeste did ok in GOTD2, despite losing to Rayman Legends. Madeline and her emotional journey are the centerpiece of the game, so she should receive nearly all of the game's strength.

Low Fodder for Black Shadow. Literally all he has going for him at this point is the anime meme (which IS a pretty good one to be fair). He significantly tanked Falcon in the Rival battle too.

Low Fodder for Dr. Breen, and barely low fodder at that. Off topic, but I never really looked far into Rivals until the characters exclusive to that contest started coming up for rating. I now get why that contest was so terrible seeing the amount of blowout match wins. It didn't help that probably like a third of the entrants were joke nominees. And even strong entrants ended up getting completely wrecked by the likes of Mario/Bowser or Link/Ganon.

Low Fodder for Red - Transistor is at least a somewhat-known game and Red herself is hot.

I will also back re-ranking Madeline.

This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

Agree with Low Fodder for Commander Keen. Obviously he'd be really weak but I think the demographic shift of the site might actually help him.

Squidward I say is Mid Fodder. He is pretty popular among the Gfaqs demographic, but he also isn't the main character of the show and doesn't have much relevance in Spongebob video games.

Dr. Fetus is Low Fodder, only because Gfaqs really likes Super Meat Boy.

On that note, nominate Meat Boy for re-ranking. Yes SMB got its butt kicked by Sonic Mania but is likely significant fanbase overlap (and the Sonic name) to blame for that. I think the popularity of SMB on the site will be enough to boost the namesake main character to mid fodder.
