That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw the topic title!
TopicAre you going to your work's holiday party?

Nope. I usually try to make it, but it landed on my son's birthday this year.
TopicWhat's the highest level math class you ever got up to?
googs19
11/10/23 6:50:44 AM
#108
Linear algebra or differential equations are probably the highest math classes I took, though defining "highest" gets a bit vague after a while, and neither of those were as hard as multivariable calculus, which was technically a lower level of math class at my university.
TopicThanksgiving. Are you looking forward to it?
googs19
11/06/23 1:47:45 PM
#24
Not really. My extended family stopped doing big family get-togethers during Covid and never started them back up again. So Thanksgiving is just going to be the kids going over to their mom's grandparents house for a big fun family gathering while I sit at home playing video games or something.

TopicDo you ever get nostalgic over the COVID lockdowns?
googs19
10/31/23 10:44:44 AM
#21
There are certain things that were nice, and if I could have just been alone during the lockdowns that would have been fine, but being cooped up in the house with 3 very loud children isn't something I would want to repeat.

Though I do kind of wish the conference I have to go to for work next week could just be done online again, rather than having to drive downtown through heavy traffic for 3 days.
TopicBeing salaried honestly hasn't been so bad
googs19
10/30/23 1:07:08 PM
#10
I'm salaried, but my work has what they call "Incentive Compensation" pay, which is basically overtime as long as we are working on work that is billable to a client.
It is certainly nice having at least something to show for it if I need to work long hours.

TopicWould you dress for Halloween as Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift with your wife/gf
googs19
10/29/23 11:37:10 AM

I'm not really into music, so I probably wouldn't want to dress as Taylor Swift. And I've only ever heard of what's-his-name because he is now dating someone famous.
TopicDo you like driving?
googs19

No. I hate driving and pretty much everything involving cars from purchasing them, to maintaining them, to selling them. Unfortunately it is kind of an unavoidable necessity.
TopicWhat's the biggest reason you don't go to a movie theatre/cinema
googs19
10/22/23 8:39:15 AM
#28
There aren't really many movies I care enough about seeing to make the effort to go to a theater to see. If someone invites me to a movie, I might consider going, but with 3 kids it is difficult to find the time to get away from the family for that long.
The cost is also annoying to, especially since when my friends do see movies it is never "let's go to the cheaper matinee showing", it's "let's go to the fancy super expensive theater that is half an hour further away so we can piss away even more money on booze."

Honestly, when you described the situation my first thought was that it sounds exactly like a couple of my friends with autism.

It looks awful. Seems like someone just knew that the books were about a scientist who can predict the future and ran with it.

The general consensus I have heard from people watching the show is that if you can get over the fact that is is a very loose interpretation of the books, it's pretty good.
I'm enjoying it a lot and very excited for the Season 2 finale this week.
TopicDo you go out of your way to eat Gluten Free?
googs19
09/11/23 11:20:09 AM

My wife has a gluten intolerance, which isn't as bad as someone with Celiac disease, but she still can't handle much gluten without getting a stomach ache, so I end up making a lot of meals that are gluten free.
If it wasn't for her restrictions there is no way I would go out of my way to make something gluten free.

Can you even imagine working at a bookstore and some person comes in just to buy a biography about Tucker Carlson? That would be so surreal, obviously you're not supposed to judge them but how do you not just burst out laughing right there.

I have a hard time believing that the Venn diagram of people who are interested in a biography of Tucker Carlson and people who can read isn't just 2 separate circles.

I'm going in for my 2nd session of hair removal next week and I really did expect getting popped in the face to be worse, but it's quite manageable

I had to start electrolysis recently because my hair is an annoying blondish red color that the laser didn't do much for. While not comfortable, that hasn't been too painful either. Though I've had a couple of times where the technician decided we needed to stop early because of how my skin was reacting.

It's gotten to the point that 90% of your feed is either ads or "suggested for you" content

90% Seems generous. I just checked my feed and the first thing was a vague acquaintance I knew in college 15 years ago being "Interested in an Event" that I would never consider attending, followed by literally 30 "Suggested for You" pages before finally getting to another friend actually posting something.
There is a reason I don't use Facebook much.
