So what kind of numbers do we expect between Persona 5 and Persona 4 Golden before SFF? This possibly puts Persona 5 within striking distance (>45%) of Witcher 3.

That or Witcher 3 is the clear second strongest game of the bracket.

The last bit for the top 10 is quite the cluster. Xenoblade/P4G/GTAV/RDR are all about equal with each other. RE2/Bloodborne aren't too far from ME2 to not at least be within the conversation.

Having God of War while making Witcher ~= SSBU means we need to entertain the idea of A Link Between Worlds and Spider-Man (even if you think GoW was SFF then ALBW also has that argument).

You could even make a case for Portal 2, TLOU, Pokemon HGSS and NieR depending on how close Persona 5/Dark Souls/Skyrim get to Witcher.

I still think Mario Kart is a poor series to judge things on. The series hugely benefits from apathy votes and games like Skyrim is pretty much the perfect opponent for it.

I imagine the games are a bit front loaded relative to other Animal Crossing games for obvious reasons, but imagine if it wasn't, it'd be on pace to be one of the 10 highest selling games ever.

Regardless, anyone that now doesn't think the series is a top tier series for Nintendo is crazy.

I would go with, "Does it have Mario in the title?" as how I would separate things. That however, eliminates Luigi's Mansion and things like Super Princess Peach that a lot of people would combine with the Mario series.

Spin-offs makes it very hard for it to be not-Mario. The series has dabbled in more genres than anything so unless you want a specific genre it's an easy choice.

Of course it also depends on what you classify as spin-offs. Would that include Luigi/Wario/Yoshi games? If so then Mario is a spin-off of Donkey Kong so it would be better to go up a rung and select that series.
