JFC. Would Xi be a dictator if they had the same form of government as us? No. So Biden is right on why. Bidens statement doesnt live up to the level of an if and only if geometric proof statement but thats because hes was relying on shared common knowledge that he didnt need to spell out. They have a different form of government was a coded way of saying they are NOT a democracy. Not that any slight difference from us makes a dictatorship.

You could forget they had leukemia. If everyone forgot thatd really fucking suck. Go awhile untreated, rediscover the disease but the prognosis is way worse now. If just you forgot itd certainly strain the relationship and theyd you were an asshole but at least they wouldnt lose treatment time. Still though thats downright evil to do that to someone.

She directly said so people can pursue their dreams themselves. How is that vague? His response as to why he wont was vague. He seems to assume they wont try but that seems to be a guarantee to be wrong.

also kind of hard to care about people forgetting "wishes". Who cares if some kid forgets he wants a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas? >_>

The movie is definitely going to deal with dreams and wishes more consequential than that.

I do think it went too far though because Im sure there have been commercials like this before but I was never taken aback like I was by this one. One of the comments says if she laughed in my face like that I would have just left, which I agree with.

Growing up there was an Italian deli where the owner would rag on his regular customers and I loved that atmosphere but maybe that's a New England thing. This customer is thrown by the sandwich names meaning he's a first time customer and he's asking about getting a sandwich named after himself? If I was the owner I'd assume he was doing that for a laugh. To be honest, I think it would bother less people if the genders were switched.

See a wish does not have to be harmful to be bad. And the MC is already talking about judging wishes herself.

If she returns the wishes she doesnt grant then people can see and comment on her process for what gets approved.

Not many, but there are some showing better signs than fucking Florida. If Republicans in Ohio try and undo the ballot initiative that could piss off enough people to get Biden to win that state. North Carolina shows signs becoming a swing state. Texas turning blue is the dream.

Yeah...this is a difficult thing because (at least from this short clip) it doesn't seem like he's being villainous?? He is the king / wish granter and he decides if a wish is harmful or not and then grants it.

The MC's qualm is that a bunch of wishes don't get granted...but like all wishes cannot be granted. If two people wish to be the best doctor in all the kingdom, that's impossible to grant both. What if one person wants to be the best doctor for riches while the other genuinely wants to help people?

Also someone else in this thread said it best: all wishes are not equal. Sometimes people can wish for selfish things that they don't need or as the guy says they could wish for something outside of their achievable means, which in that case forgetting it might be the best for everyone.

They're gonna have to really show some villainy I.E. he gains power from ungranted wishes, or he collects wishes / memories to enslave people, etc. for me to side against him.

You're misrepresenting her argument. She was horrified at the memory erasure aspect. The guy who wanted to become a doctor for selfish reasons could still try on his own to be a really good doctor if he knew that he wanted to be a doctor.

Well I mean, some wishes shouldn't be granted. Some wishes are extremely selfish and can hurt others even if they are not trying to. You wish for that promotion but you take it from someone else who also deserves it. Some wish harm on others. Some wish for magic fish nets that can disrupt the eco system. This movie is gonna base it on that all the wishes he is holding are good and decent wishes. Though I think he should give some back and encourage them to fulfill their wishes themselves. It's a very nuanced take that isn't all sunshine as rainbows but this is a kids movie so eh.

But theres zero oversight. People only make wishes they think are good but some arent when you step back. He only grants wishes he thinks are good and everyone must trust that hes perfect.

I felt superhero movie fatigue in phase 2. Infinity war is the only reason I caught back up

Theyre basing it entirely on the most recent 4 elections while ignoring an event from 2 decades ago, is not as strong of an argument as you think. Al Gore would never perform that well in the Florida of today. We grew up thinking of Florida as THE swing state but times have changed.

I still think it's insane that we just up and believe that an asteroid hit earth some millions years ago and caused a crater and wiped all life or whatever.
