Interesting. At first i was "okay why would of all things it evolved to mimic flies. Flies are harmless, unlike some non vemomous snakes that evovled pattern similar to the dangerous ones"

The explanation particularly is pretty fascinating

In the case of Timorus Sarcophagoides and model flies, only the Weevil takes advantage of the situation on the sole criterion of morphological resemblance. Because model flies are not harmful, the system is based solely on the leakage behaviour that is totally different between the two Species. MIME flies Sarcophagidae sends a signal to potential predators: i am a fly, not worth trying to capture me, I am too fast and agile. By broadening the definition of mimicry Batsien to behaviour (leakage ability), The author qualifies this mimicry as Batsien.

Also TIL it is called batesien. Also i just skimmed the article, does the reason of the mimicry from a reviewed study or a speculation/hypothesis so far?

Anyway reading "i contain multitudes" have changed my views even for pathogens and probiotics, and how i see the symbiosis and balance of ecosystem.

I realize the scary fact that even mutal symbiosis is a constant tug of war between symbionts, and it happened because balance is the only way to reproduce and spread genes.

They pump oxygen with their intestines because their heart are too weak.

It uses peristaltic movement to pump 02, the same say how we swallow food.
