I enjoyed it thoroughly, the main characters are darlings and it portrayed some time-relevant issues from the eyes and thoughts of innocent children and pulled it off well. But the book won a pulitzer, claimed by many critics " a must read for every adults in their lifetime" and whatever praise you can come up with, this book probably got it. It is just not such a groundbreaking masterpiece to me. It's just an honest, skilled writing and intention to tell story and message to the reader. Maybe relevance, and attachment is the issue. I am young, and not american, and i live in 2018, raised in generally liberal household surrounded by mostly liberal people. The view on the themes like racism, inequalities and other stuff is nothing new for me and stories that brought up more or less the same theme has been done countless time in the time which we are living right now. Basically post ww2 japan was poor and in desperate need of easy, filling food that last a long time, and an industrious person rose and decided on making instant ramen that can be easily distributed, cheap, reliable and non perish or expire easily. He set on inventing the method on drying the noodle and tinkering with the taste until the instant noodle finally born, solving the immediate food crisis in japan, and become the best friend of every college students since its invention.
