TopicIs GTAV an acceptable "GOTY 2015" because of its PC release date?
Zachnorn

I'm his friend. My position is that if a game isn't a straight port and if it adds something, it's eligible to be GotY even though ultimately, it's as much of a contender as other games released that year that are completely new. This idea is not new for me: I hated GTA: SA on PS2 when I played it shortly after release in 2004 (it just ran poorly and the controls were awful imo) but I love it on PC in 2005 and it's easily my 2005 GotY and one of my top 5 games overall. In regards to GTA V specifically, it's my 2015 GotY because it came to PC that year, added better graphics, you can mod it, there are some PC-only features, and I didn't really play anything else that year.

I also consider Minecraft to be my GotY for 2011 despite it being playable since 2009 and me buying the beta in 2010 and playing it heavily before its release date.

All that said, in general, I have a lax attitude about GotY: If you want to call SMB3 GotY because you played it this year for the first time, that doesn't bother me at all. I'll disagree, but I say do whatever you want for GotY. As far as what I have to say about it for my standards, allow me to answer this question with a question:

Would Super Mario Bros. 3 be an acceptable GotY for 2007 (Wii), 2014 (3DS and WiiU)?

That depends. Did it add anything new?

I have too many things that can play Netflix and Hulu.

With that said, the only reason why I wanted it with the Switch is because it's so easy to go from TV mode to a tablet mode and the screen is a good size. It's pretty nice for Hulu. But I wouldn't say it's essential, and I wasn't upset that it didn't have the capability. Because ultimately, if I need that, my phone works better on the go (otherwise, I have to hotspot to my Switch) and my dozen devices can stream to a TV just fine.

There are a lot of aesthetic mods and mods that add story and dialogue to things. Also convenience mods for the farming aspect. I've never used them on PC so I don't feel like you'd be missing out just playing the base game, but if you're a minmaxer you'll want the mods.

The story mods sound intriguing, maybe some convenience mods. It's such a hard choice to make.

Mods are why I swore I'd always get the PC version of anything before a console version.

Playing anywhere is why I swore I'd get the Switch version of most games.

This is so hard for Stardew Valley, though. From what it sounds like, mods aren't as essential to this game compared to, say, Minecraft or Oblivion/Skyrim/Fallout. But I'm not sure.

What good mods would I miss out on if I get it on Switch?

I played with the app today on my smart TV. It's pretty cool, but depending on your network you may have poor quality video. I noticed it worked great on Portal 2, but in a faster game like Burnout Paradise, it became more pixelated because my network/TV couldn't handle the data needed for sharp, fast-paced video at 1080p over WiFi.

I don't have the actual device, though. Maybe it would work better.

Overall, it's certainly impressive, but I'm probably not going to stream my games too much. I'd rather just move my PC if I'm constantly playing games near my TV anyway.

Yeah I hate how the Switch gets a free pass despite being terrible tech-wise
But well if people enjoy the mobility of it so much, what can you do

That's the appeal of the Switch. There's no denying that it's the most powerful system in handheld mode that actually has the games that can take advantage of it.

I know there are better mobile CPUs and GPUs than what are in the Switch. But are the Android games taking advantage of it, and are those types of games as plentiful as games on the Switch?

If you're only using it in docked mode, then it's a weak console and a really bad value unless you really, really love Nintendo games. I'm somewhat guilty of that - due to StreetPass on the 3DS, if I can only take one system with me, I take the 3DS. But if you use it undocked, there's no denying that it's a powerful portable system.

In summary:
If you use it as a dedicated home console, it is terrible tech-wise for 2017
If you use it as a portable or hybrid system, it is pretty good tech-wise for 2017

Skyrim looks so good on the Switch, but my only problem with it is that I like the PC version due to mods. But being able to take it on the go is a nice feature.

A Laptop seems to solve both of those problems!

True, but gaming laptops are pretty bulky and most of my portable gaming happens as I'm sitting in my car before work. It's harder to pull out a laptop and mouse to game than it is to grab my Switch in that situation.

I feel bad for those who would prefer not to work on any holiday but have to for financial reasons or for the sake of their employment. I know a good number of people who don't mind working any day regardless just because it will advance them financially. Depends on how you define it.

Defining it as a total build with all new parts, this computer is 10 years old.

Defining it as a motherboard, this computer is only 2.

I upgrade my computer regularly and reuse parts. That said, the only original parts remaining since my 2007 build are my case and keyboard. Upgrades that year that remain installed are my capture card (actually from 2005 and taken from an old PC) and memory card reader. Everything else either died or is no longer usable due to obsolescence.

My point though of LA was that we are counting like 30 different cities as one city.

And when we talk about OC, we're not even talking about the same county that LA is in anymore. It's the same metro area (even though people that live in OC hate to admit it), but technically not LA.

With that said, the City of LA is still massive. And includes Hollywood, which is not a city but a neighborhood in LA.

Not only do I wash my hands every time I use the bathroom, but I also carry a bottle of Purell with me because of all the people that don't wash their hands.

I also work with technology at schools and I've gotten sick so many times even with using Purell since I touch devices used by everyone every day. That said, I sometimes forget to sanitize my hands after, and so I end up using plenty of sick days thanks to people not cleaning their hands properly. I guess there's a reason why my job gives me 10 sick days per year.
