I have been having a wasp problem and earlier this week I said the following: I'd rather get attacked by a pride of lions that would tear and eat me alive and killing me than deal with getting attacked by a swarm of wasps or bees and live. My fear of bees/wasps is just that intense.

So I'll fight the lion even though, for most people, they would be more likely to survive many bee stings over trying to fight a large man-eating animal.

This happened to me. You need to go into your profile on eShop to redownload. It's not like every other app/game store in the world in that you can redownload from the product page.

That's really awesome and something so many people want. Work and school so separated like that. And I once had a job where I worked like 10 hours during school and 35 during breaks. That was cool but what you have is even better. Best of luck with becoming a teacher, live that nice seasonal work life!

Forget income levels, how about those of us that don't work all year round? We just come in during certain times of the year, do our work, and then either struggle financially or enjoy the rest of the time. Where are my teachers/professors, other school employees, tax professionals, seasonal retail people, and other seasonal employees?

As a school district employee, I am saving my money for the summer and I look forward to being able to take some trips without using a single hour of my vacation time. It was also nice to sleep in for a week during Thanksgiving and winter breaks, though it's unfortunate that I don't get spring break off. Can't have everything, I guess.

i think it's inversely correlated with quality of life. I think maturity comes from suffering :(

so it's not age-specfic

Sadly, this might be the most accurate post of all.

When someone suffers enough to get either angry, frustrated, depressed, stressed, or unsatisfied with life, or simply get a certain amount of responsibility (which typically causes at least one of those other things I mentioned) they effectively finish childhood. Different people get to that point sooner than others.

Basically, once you realize that the world kinda sucks, you're no longer a kid.

I did the buy a PS3 and get 5 free games valued at under $10 each offer. So I bought these 6 games (Uncharted was only $3 so why not):
-Uncharted 1
-Uncharted 2
-The Last of Us
-Heavy Rain
-Midnight Club LA
-God of War Collection

I have a PS3 Slim 250 GB with one wireless controller. I got all of that for $123 + tax.

Damn you GameStop, I just bought a Switch too but this was too good of a deal to pass up. Because I tried in 2015 but "end of the month" meant August 31st to me but August 30th to GameStop so I missed out, and only now did I see this offer return

Anyway, suggest more games. I never had a PS2, my PS1 was DOA so I missed out on that too. Please don't suggest games available on PC.

TopicHave you done as much in your life as you thought you would have 10 years ago?
Zachnorn
03/14/17 10:03:17 PM
#20
10 years ago (well, 9 1/2), I had an assignment for an Effective Learning Methods class where I had to write a timeline of my life from birth to 10 years into the future. Here's what 18 y/o me said on October 2nd, 2007 for the next 10 years:

2008 - Will go somewhere I have always wanted to visit (late, 2009)
2009 - Buy a car (late, didn't even have a driver's licence, 2011)
6/2009 - Will graduate from community college (late, 2011)
9/2009 - Will go to a university, majoring in Computer Science (majored in business, late, 2011)
2010 - Will intern for a technology company (actually did it the year before! 2009)
6/2011 - Graduate from the university (late, 2013)
2012 - Get a job in computer hardware engineering (never happened, don't care anymore)
2013 - Go on an international trip (never happened)
2015 - Get a pilot's licence (never happened)
2017 - Be able to support a family. (haha)

On the other hand, when I wrote this I had just started to go to community college after being homeschooled for 10 years and I honestly expected to fail, but I made it through with a 4.0 GPA and some extracurricular activities that literally put me in a history book (the 50 year history book for my community college has a former student that graduated in each decade, I'm the most recent). I went to a university that I never thought I could get accepted to. So I guess I accomplished some other things.

With that said, I don't believe I have done as much with my life as I thought I would. Especially the last few years which have been a complete disaster that has led me down the path of depression (though 2016 and on have been better for me). In all, even with the alternative accomplishments I mentioned, I still feel much the same as I did when I was 18, except now I have a few degrees, more debt, responsibility, less general interest in entertainment, more pessimism (I don't even want to try to do this assignment today), and the "how am I in my late 20s already and why am I failing at life still" feeling.

To answer the question, no, and I'm pretty pessimistic about the future. Because 18 y/o me was trying to be optimistic, and every time I look at this little pile of text, I get depressed about the things I either didn't do or was late with. Which is, to me, more depressing than if I were pessimistic and got surprised by doing well, like I did with my time in community college.

So I did the exchange and bought the 40". The difference is massive...literally. From the brief time I used it, it seems to have nice colors and resolution, it looks great. The only problem is that it seems really big. My room is about 9.5x11' so I don't have a ton of space (which is why my TV would have to double as a second monitor). I already have a 40" in my living room that I almost never use (and who knows why I didn't put that one up first to see how it would fit).

In every way aside from the remote and lack of audio options besides optical audio out, this TV is simply much better than the one I had. I really do like it, but the size feels like it's too much in terms of space, though being close to it and not too far, it is amazing. I'm so conflicted.

Right now, I'm planning to try it for a few days and return it if I don't like it. I'm thankful that Best Buy has a pretty good return policy but also concerned because I already returned a laptop last year and a TV today, and they track and ban people that return things excessively.

I'm leaning towards it more, though I like the features of my current TV a bit more since it has a headphone jack and the ability to connect Bluetooth headphones but I feel like I might be able to do that with the larger TV if I buy a converter for it.

That said, I finally connected my laptop to this TV today and started to use a wireless keyboard. It's awesome, but yeah, using the TV as a glorified monitor has limits when sitting away from it.

Anyone use a 4K monitor or TV, especially at around 40"? How is it?

Would the extra 8 inches make the TV too big for the distance I'll be from it?

Also, is HDR worth anything right now? I see some for $550. Seems like it might be like when I decided to not go with 4K when I bought my living room TV in 2014 (also 40", but 4K at the time had a $200-$300 premium at the time with minimal content for it).

Oh, and for reference, I usually sit about 1.5 feet away from my 24 inch monitor, so I'm used to sitting up close to screens. I tend to use my PC more than my TV and it's been like this for years. I also dropped console gaming several years ago in favor of PC and handhelds, didn't use a TV for a few months at one point, and am now just taking TVs seriously again.

It's for a bedroom. I plan to use it on a swivel stand so that I can turn it to face my chair when I'm on my PC or my bed. In both situations, it will be used either for watching things, playing games, or as a monitor (yes, even in bed, I got a wireless keyboard with a touchpad for this).

In my chair or sitting on my bed, I would be about 2-3 feet away from the screen and 5 feet when lying down.

I just bought this TV less than two weeks ago:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-32-class-31-5-diag--led-1080p-smart-hdtv-silver/4380083.p?skuId=4380083

Samsung 32" 1080p. It's a good TV, and I enjoyed playing Zelda on it. Though I made the mistake of watching someone play Zelda on a 60+ inch TV and since then mine has felt kinda small. I thought, what the hell, it was only $280. Then I looked for a better stand for it and saw this TV:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-40-class-40-diag--led-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-dark-titan/5622308.p?skuId=5622308

$20 more gets me 8 more inches and 4K. Though would that be too big? Anything I'm missing compared to the one I already have? I have a few days left to return my TV.

Thanks for your opinions on this.

I feel like I'm over this job. I don't want to seem ungrateful because this is my most stable job ever, but it's also pretty annoying and I'm not seeing any room for advancement due to seniority rules and the time that I joined. It's also not what I really want to do. But at least I get summers off without eating up vacation time.
