oh right. Nah its manipulation. But usually its just play someone with X rule play and cancel 8 times and then play and accept and random is abolished

Part of it was the personal connection to the ship and how much it's gone through with them. You could also I suppose look at it like this: the Strawhats are getting rid of a vital part of the crew because its usefulness has come to an end. How far off the chopping block could someone like Usopp be?

this. He sees himself as the ship. He knows everyone is getting stronger and he is still weak.
he feels like when its no longer convenient to the crew theyll get rid of him too

He recognized the bad blood between them and leveraged his irreplaceable-ness to save Walt's life. He never budged that the operation is over if Gus hurt Walt.

He looked for a way to safely use the ricin at Gus' house, and shortly after that Walt assaults him. This is ep 9 of 13 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AevjEC1a5Js

Theres also a lot of scenes of Jesse happily working with Gus and Mike before that, and ignoring Walts suggestions to kill Gus. I believe he has multiple opportunities to use the ricin or shoot him but doesnt?

at this point he still should hate Gus for what he did to the kids but its all forgotten.

oh i misread that. i see what you mean but jesse wasn't totally unloyal to Walt that season. He looked for opportunities to use the ricin multiple times. Their S4 falling out happens because Walt doesn't have faith in Jesse and accuses Jesse of abandoning him and stealing his recipe despite Jesse not wanting to go to Mexico and coming to Walt for advice.

He switched over to Gus side pretty quickly IIRC. It wasnt until Walt poisoned the other kid that Jesse came around. Before that he was perfectly fine with Gus wanting to kill Walt, when the only reason Gus wanted to kill Walt was because Walt killed Gail, to protect Jesse.

TheHoldSteady posted...
Gus needed Walt quality meth but also needed to kill Walt because Walt had grown too irrational. With Gale dead, Jesse was his only real option left.

So Gus played the only real card he had. He kept Jesse close, pulling him away from Walt, hoping Jesse would switch loyalties to Gus and give the OK to kill Walt.

It almost worked, but Jesse had too much of a connection to Walt already, and wouldn't give the OK. So Gus tries firing Walt and threatening his family to keep him at bay, but it has the opposite effect Gus is expecting. And Walt pulls the hail Mary to firmly get Jesse's loyalty back.

I wouldn't say Jesse turned his back on Walt. He was just manipulated into doing work for Gus for a while until Walt out manipulated Jesse

Yeah sort of. But the only reason Gus wanted to kill Walt was because Walt killed Gail, which he did as a last resort to protect himself and Jesse.

which he had to do because Gus was going to kill Jesse for what he did at the end of season 3. The fact that he turned on Walt at all is annoying. Walts only in that situation because of Jesses choices. And even more annoying because Jesse hated Gus in the previous season for his indifference to kids getting killed.

You mean Walt kills Gus to save himself from Jesse replacing him and to keep Jesse under his control... it was absolutely not about "helping" Jesse it was about Walt's selfishness.

wrong season. End of Season 3. Jesse hunts the drug dealers who involved the kid in the drug game (Brock? I cant remember the kids name), Gus tells him to back off and says hell stop the guys. The kid dies after Gus does nothing.

Jesse then goes to stop the dealers working for Gus and Walt begs him not to. Jesse goes anyway and Walt kills them to save Jesse

Without Jesse doing that Gus would have no reason to want to kill Walt(or at least no reason yet. It could be inferred he wanted Gail to be his guy once he knew everything Walt knew)

He knows Gus doesnt care about the kids in season 3 and we watch Walt stick by Jesses side to the point where Walt kills the guys to save Jesse from Gus

She did. But it wasnt that self contained. Nothing ever came of the Jens friends treating her like s*** and the setup of the bridge not wanting She Hulk just kinda got forgotten. And now it seems like she only got an invite cause she was She Hulk. There was no redemption for Jen.

As I said, enjoyable but the worst one.

Maybe its also that they teased Daredevil and then pivoted. Not without my Daredevil(based on a true story)

Are they really heading towards waking Durin's Bane? I thought he was awoken a couple of thousand years later.

Anyway, yeah, I get what you're saying. I think that's an interesting way to go. I think at the end, they will end with the implication that all this is eventually lost to history till Smeagol finds the Ring and starts the chain reaction that leads to Sauron's final end.

Also, I think Theo will somehow be sacrificed, like blood sacrifice. Either to make the blade whole permanently, or some kind of essence put into the creation of the One Ring. The reason will be because he's Halbrand's son.

my knowledge of the timeline is rough. But from what I understand they are condensing the timeline because it would be super annoying for tv adaption if all the dwarf and human characters died every few episodes because they skipped 300 years.

So in my mind everything is technically on the table because it is its own thing.

The more I think about this show the more I think it has amazing potential to be a show (spoilers for first 4 episodes and some posturing) of immense tragedy

I think they are obviously building towards the battle and having Isildur cut off Saurons finger as the season 5 ending.

But they have so much more potential to build these characters up for a huge tragedy. Basically every storyline is doomed already. Elrond and Celebrimbor and the one Ring. Galadriel failing. The south lands becoming Mordor. Halbrand becoming the Witch King. The Dwarves unleashing the Balrog. Im confused about where the boy with the magic sword is going but I guess well see.

its like the Empire Strikes Back of LotR. I think Im more excited for what this show represents than what it is. The idea of them setting every character up to fail, but knowing itll all be resolved by the trilogy is a risky idea if thats what they are going for. But with some more quality writing I think they could definitely pull it off
