I had the New Year's Countdown running on 3 different Animal Crossing games. City Folk, New Leaf, and New Horizons. I've been playing those three throughout 2020, so I figured I might as well.

Also realized that throughout the past 3 months, I forgot to catch a Spiny Lobster. :(
I guess I'm waiting until next October since I refuse to time travel. It was also the last deep-sea creature I caught in New Leaf, so I guess it's an unintentional tradition.

Learned to cook better. Not close to any pro-level, but good enough where I can at least feel proud with what I'm making for the most part. I've also made several new dishes that I haven't done before.

But the big one for me was finishing my Master's Degree. Was definitely a struggle getting through it, but glad I stuck through it 'til the end. Now got to work on my negotiation skills to make use of it!

I'm extremely close to getting my Master's (literally just one paper submission away), but I can tell you from just going on that sub, you have to be REALLY into your field to go for a PhD. I see a lot of dispirited people in that sub.

I would say for most cases, the amount of work people do for a Master's does not compare to a Doctorate.

For me, I'm done with academia, I have no plans to go for a PhD after this.

Things like this could somewhat be avoided if mobile games here did what Japan does and put in an age check like this:



It goes:

Under 13: 5000 yen limit a month
Between 13 and 20: 20000 yen limit a month
Over 20: No limit

Yes, a kid could still lie about their age, but it's still one extra screen that they have to go through which could be enough for them to either not bother or mitigate the amount spent.

Though now that I think about it, it wouldn't be of much help if an adult parent puts in their age first, since it saves the age info.

It turns out the group that was making those only donated a small portion to charity (or so they even claimed), and didn't even give any thing to Etika's family. They were mostly profiting off of his name, which is just terrible and disrespectful.

So Nintendo actually put a stop to a scummy practice.

I must have gotten really lucky in both this game and New Leaf because it felt like the trades prioritized things I didn't have but still needed.

I don't remember if you were that into vocaloids, but if you were I say to download Project Sekai on your phone.

It's a vocaloid rhythm gacha game that's pretty good. It's only in Japanese, but it's pretty easy to figure things out.

Has a lot of text because the big draw is the game has a lot of OCs that interact with the vocaloids (who play more of a "guardian" role in-universe), so there's a story to it, they sing their own cover of many of the vocaloid songs.
