We had this argument last week I think.

Science can't prove or disprove God, so Christianity itself is not holding people back from being intellectual. A Christian can still ponder any scientific question that an atheist can ponder.

Usually this comes down to Christian VS Atheist and how each of them believe the world came to be how it is today. Specifically, how did this all get started in the first place, how did abiogenesis occur, and how did life get to where it is today?

Many Christians believe the Genesis creation account is allegory. It is a simplified account of how things started because God probably figured a full explanation of the big bang and evolution was too much for earlier humans to understand, and it was pointless anyway, because to be a Christian you don't need to know the origins of the world.

God may very well have started the big bang and guided the process of evolution. Science can't prove that; it's just something a lot of Christians assume to be true.

Besides, even if a Christian fully rejected the idea of the big bang, the scientific explanation for abiogenesis, and evolution, altogether, that doesn't mean they reject all other scientific facts and theories. It doesn't mean they can't be an intellectual person.

And assuming free will is necessary, why does possessing free will require that humans be able to do "evil/wrong"?

The kind of love I'm referring to isn't a special feeling, it's a genuine willingness to do what is right for someone else; not necessarily what makes them happy, but what is good and wholesome for them. Love is patient, kind, selfless, forgiving, merciful, meek, considerate, honest, faithful, hopeful, and enduring.

Free will is necessary for genuine love to exist because the act of loving someone requires just that; an act. Or really, a set of actions over an indefinite period of time. To love someone is to manifest all the things I described above because you want to, not because someone told you that you had to, or because someone forced you to.

Free will as I'm referring to it is the potential to do wrong. If you were always forced to do the right thing by God's standards, you would be exhibiting the effects of love, but you would not actually be practicing real love, because it would not exist by your choice.

As a Christian, I see no problem with contraception. I also believe all people should have the same freedoms in life, regardless of their sexual orientation. As I see it, God's laws trump man's laws, so there's no need for man to establish laws based on religious views. God gave man free will, why should we take that away, except to protect the most basic rights?

True. Christians shouldn't be out telling people how they should live their lives, unless those people are also claiming they are Christians. A Christian should only be concerned with leading people to accept Christ, because why should they care about what God wants them to do when they don't believe in God?

Maybe he is, but many people find the concept of what Christianity is rather offensive and against what they value as good. Many Christian values don't align with a lot of modern thinking and (in America at least, from what I see as an outsider) those values are often used to try and determine law despite the supposed separation of state and religion America boasts as one of its main perks.

Perhaps you could be more specific about values that aren't aligning with modern thinking? I have an idea of what you're talking about but it's difficult to address generalizations.

No, because they literally aren't athletes. An athlete is someone who is proficient at a sport. An "eSport" is not an actual sport. A sport is a competitive and physically exerting activity. Playing video games is not physically exerting.

First of all, Christianity is based off of the existence and actions of Jesus Christ. Of course it wasn't the first religion.

Second, you should consider that maybe the God of the Bible decided not to reveal himself to mankind until a certain point.

Christianity not being the first religion doesn't make it any less credible.

I remember learning in my Psychology 101 class that there is a definite bias working for the benefit of beautiful people in society, that it has always been that way, and that it will always be that way. Applies to both men and women. Statistics prove that people considered physically attractive are generally more successful in life.

Long story short... Less than a year ago, I felt my current employer was underpaying me, and a job offer fell into my lap, so I was going to take it, but ended up staying because my current employer matched their offer (and I like where I am). That was a 25% bump. Last month another job offer fell into my lap, and it'll be 70% more than what I was making less than a year ago (or 36% more than what I'm making now since my 25% bump).

I start my new job in 2 weeks. It's an office job for a general construction company.

Great thing is, I wasn't even looking for another job, but a friend mentioned my name to his employer and got me in. After the interview, the new job looks awesome, and I can already tell I'm going to get along great with my new boss there.

Sad to leave my current company. Been here for 10 years and I really like it, but the new place is offering me a lot more money, the same benefits, and better advancement opportunity.

This works out perfectly, because my wife and I just started the hunt for a house (first time home buyers). Now we'll be able to put more money down on the house, or even afford something nicer.

Sure, people can get away with it, unless you get the wrong mod reviewing your post. Some mods are less lenient, and strictly speaking, inciting a negative reaction from posters is against the ToS.

Trolling is not someone posting an opinion that differs from yours, but someone posting a message designed to get others mad enough to violate one of the other rules.
