I'm not saying we should marry the theory, just that it's a very possible one with deadly consequences. One thing is that if aliens do this to each other on occasion, we haven't seen any evidence for it. No stars going out from an alien on alien invasion or planets being wiped out. As far as we can tell with current tech. If the galaxy is populated with aliens who are advanced enough for interstellar travel and haven't done this, it might be because other civilizations nearby might take them out as well, so there could be something like nukes here on Earth. Lots of countries have them. Lots of countries could use them, but it would be a very, very bad idea for everyone. --- Don't tease the octopus, kids!

This happens only a few pages in, the rest of the book is about humanity's survival when the aliens arrive ahead of the missiles. Even in Africa, where more than a hundred city arcologies had risen, nature was beginning to renew itself. It was a good day to be alive, she told herself, taking in the peace of the garden. Then, looking east, she saw it coming -- at least her eyes began to register it -- but her optic nerves did not last long enough to transmit what the eyes had seen. It was quite small for what it could do -- small enough to fit into an average-sized living room -- but it was moving at 92 percent of light speed when it touched Earth's atmosphere. Wiki says its escape velocity is about 3 feet per second. So yeah, you'd need to grapple yourself to the surface. The vast majority of the patients are female and since the show was extended to two hours, more of the episodes focus on their time near their max weights. Plus Dr. Now, who's not a bad guy, is basically commanding these obese women while they have emotional breakdowns. I'm not putting that on Dr. Now by a large percentage but the whole thing is in moral grayness. --- Don't tease the octopus, kids!
