i'd actually been checking the relative rankings for everyone's songs as per the initial and revised scores on my own since i said i'd checked a few days ago... not sure how i'm going to handle that one now lol

Oh yeah, also, bit of not really important trivia here on YuNi's cover. I'm rather pleased it made it this far when i was honestly hoping to find an upload of it with a music video attached to it, but couldn't. Turns out, there was a music video on YuNi's channel with a cover of Hello/How Are You and it's pretty good, but the cover predated the album that this one was on, and... it really wasn't very good. Regularly out of tune, out of tempo... it's remarkable how much worse that one was, but i really liked the music video. So i ended up going through like 10 covers of the song to see if there was anyone else worth considering over it (such as Emma Hazy Minami's cover i posted in the post-topic last year, QKiki's cover (from the Hachigatsu ni Yuki group), Kano's cover, Tenjin Kotone's and a few others)... But despite the fact that almost all of them were actually pretty good and a lot better than YuNi's first cover, none of them seemed quite good enough to pick over this one that didn't even have a video. And again it's really remarkable that someone who messed up their cover they went to the trouble of releasing a music video for which has over a million views now actually did have the capability to also do easily one of the best ones out there.

to be fair, you could've tried translating the lyrics on screen with an image translator (but that would've been a lot of effort)

it is true they're bleak stories though, with a theme of love entangled in them too. quite a lot of filler prose in both that i think holds them back slightly but i generally still consider them pretty good. i wasn't sure whether i should pick these or re-pick the other Setsu song (that Virtual Youtuber remix one from last time's extras) since i do still prefer that

i expected this to either end up at the top of my noms or the bottom for exactly the reasons you caught, so the fact that it ended roughly in the middle is a bit of a surprise even factoring in everything, though middle is evidently far from a bad thing here.

honestly, when i first heard this in a streamed live performance in vrchat when she got 1000 subscribers iirc, i was certain she was retiring. it certainly went on long enough to be a swan song and while i never cried during it, i had a very deep sense of respect for it.

still, it's also not a very groundbreaking or even good song on a technical level. this could've ended up with a sub-30 score and i wouldn't have been surprised in the slightest. manju is still a particularly inexperienced artist who is only now learning how to start pushing her boundaries. A song she posted the other day reflects this pretty well.

Not that it's bad, just not my favorite, and clearly enough not my favorite that I recognized how I liked it compared to the other ones. i can't decide if i actually liked this myself or not now lol. when it premiered it was like the best song they'd done by far but then i kinda turned on it. by the time nominations happened i ended up kinda digging it again but since then it's just been like, eh, i wonder if i should've bothered including this one. expected it to do better but now it almost feels too high lol
