It really depends on what people consider to be the definitive experience. There's been plenty of bad remakes. Don't nobody wanna play new Star Wars Battlefront. And remasters can suck too - Silent Hill comes to mind. On top of all that, some remakes are entirely new games - I'd say both OG RE2 and the remake are worth the ride.

This. It took a little while for this game to click for me, as i kept dying and getting game over to the dumbest shit in the beginning. Just dont get frustrated and stick with it because boy is it worth the ride

also do every side quest. Even if something seems pointless and boring, theres big payoffs

I agree the Portal games hold up better tho. But HL2 is definitely still playable today, same as L4D. These games just had this old skool minimalist design, like Metroid Prime or something, where the core gameplay and world design are so strong, you cant help but be sucked in

Also I have not played Black Mesa, but i did beat HL1 on ps2 ages ago

Literally the last thing i did in ff14 was get right to endwalker, and i was like 380 hours in im pretty sure. But thats also probably like 40 hours of triple triad and a couple job quests and random side quests lol. Because you do gotta stop and smell the flowers in ff14 or else youll get burned out on MSQ quick

But that time includes 4 entire games, 3 of which are the best FF games since FFX, and includes some of the best characters, music and bosses in the entire series, so yeah as a lifelong FF fan fuckin worth it

Shadowbringers is only 80 hours tho. Your original statement is patently fucking false lmao. If you played all four expansions, itd take you 350 hours to get through the main story with zero grinding - hardly a literal man year

Also assuming youve played the entire rest of the FF series, and theyre all 40 hours long, and you played a couple side games, youve already got like 700 hours into this series, so whats another 300 at that point

agree with the sentiment that ff7r is a spinoff of ff7, along with crisis core and dirge. ff7r is a side story / alternate timeline of the original. The original is still canon in ff7rs world, so why would ff7r replace it as the definitive mainline entry?

its interesting to think about, because i consider all the ff14 expansions to be mainline ff, so in that regard, yeah, ffx-2 and even the 13 sequels are more mainline than 7 remake lol

God it's such a badass game all around. I'm mad it took me so long to get around to it, especially since I love Portal and L4D so much. HL2 has such good level design, enemy design, puzzle design, I just went through the entire game feeling like some badass genius. Theres no map, objective markers, lame cut scenes, complicated menus - it's just the player relying on themselves to intuitively get through some kickass levels. AND it's all one seamless experience too like new God of War, which is crazy.

AND the game just switches genres ever two hours. Like alright now it's a puzzle game, now it's a horror game, now it's a squad shooter, now it's Pikmin

Alyx Vance is very believable and likable, and I actually love Dr. Breen as a villain - he's such a pseudo intellectual dweeb, like the video game equivalent of jordan peterson or something

And like, that's just core HL2. Then there's Episode 1, which is cool - more classic HL content, but it's Episode 2 that really ratchets everything up to 100. Better graphics, new enemies, and just badass set piece after badass set piece. OG HL2 was one of those landmark games that changed how physics worked in games forever, but Episode 2 brings everything on par with Portal and L4D

And I can't BELIEVE that ending. Half-Life fans have just been sitting on this for 20 years? Holy shit, poor guys

Is HL2 an overall 10/10? I definitely think Portal is, but I'll have to think about it. It's very close though

Now I just need someone to let me borrow their gaming PC and oculus quest so I can play Half-Life Alyx

Yeah thats another thing. All my consoles constantly break down on me these days. Turbografx CD has audio issues and currently in the shop . Neo Geo Pocket Color wont cut on. Ps3 wont stay on for more than 20 minutes

Hopefully 13 sentinels was popular enough to get unicorn into the big numbers and finally put vanilla on the map. Infinite wealth and reload are both setting records for their series, so ya never know. And hopefully rebirth doesnt leech too much from it either

Remake was a nonsense clusterfuck. Like sure its an 8/10 good game or whatever, but the writing and dialogue was some cringey anime garbage. And the combat is over-designed - too many character mechanics and cooldowns that dont actually add any real depth.

And just all the new additions suck. The whisper ghosts, Roche, president hanging out the window, Sephiroth appearing all the time, multiverse nonsense - it all sucks. Who even asked for all this shit? Why couldnt we just get Final Fantasy VII remade?

So yeah Im not even gonna play Rebirth lol. Im just having fun reading all the leaks and spoilers online
