Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

World of Light mode. That was a lot longer than I was expecting. It got a little repetitive, but it's Smash. I could probably play it forever and not get bored. Ended up with ~90% completion. Only need to find Richter to have all the characters unlocked in it.

13. Beat a JRPG

Saga Frontier

Hey look, another RPG with the initials SF that I've already beaten several times. Sigificantly more than half a dozen in this case... actually maybe a full dozen. It helps that it's a very quick playthrough for a JRPG (this one took me about seven hours). Played through Blue's scenario, this time. I forgot about the "ending" of Blue's story. You know how the Sopranos ended? It was pretty much that. I love this game, but god was it rushed.

Why did I feel the need to stop playing Dragon Quest XI to replay a game I've already beaten half a dozen times? Who knows! Gonna go through the other two scenarios and the premium disc too, though. At least I've only beaten those once.

I don't get what they were thinking with the way EXP was handled in this game. I was at half the recommended level the entire time. Did they expect you to only play 3 characters in a game with a roster of 170? Why did every character have to start at level 1? I guess it isn't the biggest problem a game could have, but it bugged me the entire time.

The Missing: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories

A lot less goofy than what Swery usually makes (although it certainly has its moments), but the writing was quite good. I didn't always like the way it controlled, but overall it was a great experience. A shame it's $30. I certainly feel like I got my money's worth, but that price point is probably going to make a lot of people avoid it.

I should check to see how close I would be if I did a second list. According to the posting topic Google doc, I do have 101 games beaten on the year (in my defense, like 80% were sub-10 hours and many that went over were mostly or partially finished in 2017).

However, I know that it is a big struggle for me to have the desire to start and finish time-consuming games, so I would probably have to intentionally go for the 25+ hour or skip it outright and go for genres I seldom play like fighting and rhythm.

Yeah, it's extremely unlikely I actually finish the list, myself. This is the only place I've been keeping track of what games I beat, though, and I like having that.

Wasn't really feeling like playing Vanquish (or any Third Person Shooter, really.), so I just picked the shortest game I could find. It certainly fit the bill. One day I'll get to the actual MGS5 (although probably not until I get to MGS4)

Pyre

One of the most promising beginning few hours of a game I've ever played. Unfortunately, the gameplay never really evolved, and the plot never lived up to the amazing world-building. I still enjoyed playing it to the end, but what I thought might end up being one of my favorites ever ended up being merely good instead.

Azure Dreams (PSX). It has dating sim elements, even though I kind of wish it didn't.

It's the only Mystery Dungeon style roguelike I've ever really gotten into. A lot of it is probably the nostalgia talking, though. I replay it every so often, but it's the first time in a long time that I've actually finished it.

Banner Saga 1, 2, and 3.

Had a lot of fun with it. Story wasn't as satisfying as I hoped (feels like a lot of plot threads didn't really go anywhere), but everything else was excellent. It felt more like an episodic game than three full sequels, so I'm glad I waited to play all three in a row.

7* Rem, if she's like Japan's release, is godly at that. Curaja, 3 turns of an AOE auto-revive + 100% defenses + 20% damage mitigation on a 5-turn cooldown (available from turn 1), AOE MP healing, 50% physical counter to curaga + status effects. that's not including her ability to use Tornado or Quake. there's probably some differences there for us due to Dagger Boomerang but i don't think they'll tone down her healing.

I can't seem to stop playing Hyrule Warriors or Slay the Spire, and Octopath is going to divert my attention even more, so I'm not 100% sure I'll end up finishing a Hat in Time (Played enough to get two batteries. It does seem quite charming, though). Hopefully it ends up hooking me an hour in like Firewatch did, but I'm not sure that's as likely with a platformer.
