Yes, it is bullshit that service industry workers in America are treated like 2nd class citizens and businesses aren't required to pay them minimum wage. With that said, if you don't want to tip your server then don't eat at full service restaurants. That's all.

Good luck. Not being able to speak German isn't a big deal. My good friend doesn't but travels there frequently for business. You should also consider looking for US based jobs that need people in Germany.
