Cops get a warrant to search his phone because of marijuana charges, guy refuses to provide the password in court after judge rules that he must unlock his phone (says he can't remember the password). Judge finds the man in contempt of court which carries up to a 6 month sentence. Judge says he can go free as soon as he remembers the password. This man was being attacked, took a few rifle butts to the head and reacted to survive. Completely fair game and that point he didn't know if he had a backup sidearm, a knife, all he knew was his life was being threatened in that moment. He wasn't thinking "how can I torture this guy" he was thinking "what's the most effective way to subdue this attacker". Even a lot of religious people that don't agree with it can't come up with a good excuse as to why two adults should or shouldn't be able to do what they want with each other, nor why they shouldn't be able to do what everyone else can already do. If you think it logically through, you can't reach the conclusion that the government has the right to impose what is effectively religious values on individuals, especially while considering that the U.S. government is setup to be free from religion. The only way to reconcile that would be to get government out of the business of marriage altogether, but that probably won't happen either. Abortion could change, but honestly I'm too cynical to see it happen. It's going to be really tough to take it away when it's been legal for so long. A lot of people view it as an inherent right, so that going to be an uphill battle, even if you technically have the votes to change it.
