No. In fact, Nintendo is apparently considering a direct successor to the 3DS.

If Nintendo kills off the 3ds, it won't be because of the Switch; it'll be because they're bringing a new handheld to the market.

The 3DS still brings in over 50% of Nintendo's profits. The Switch has been very successful so far, yes. But anyone can see it would be stupid to ditch the console with 154 million units sold, to favour the console with barely 10% of that.

The Switch had sold about 10% the amount of units as the 3DS. Why would a developer/publisher prioritise a significantly smaller platform?

People been saying this for over a year

See back then it still had Pokemon support to keep it alive. Now however, there will be no more pokemon games for 3ds. Hell it's getting fewer than 5 big releases (there are 3 I can name, and only 1 is big) in the next 6 months or so.
3DS systems are being underproduced and replaced by the 2DSXL, which is a late-life hardware revision.
If it lasts more than the next 12 months, I will legitimately be shocked.

Because developers right now aren't producing on the 3DS already.
Captain Toad (a port) comes out in two days, Warioware in August (which is also supposedly getting a switch release but I can't confirm that) then nothing announced. That's it.
Even the new Yo Kai Watch game is going to be on the Switch.

I don't understand your logic. The Switch is a hot product right now. its younger than 3DS and one of the biggest reasons its not sold as much. If they both came out around the same time and the Switch was selling that much less, then I would agree.

That's like saying "Why should we release a new handheld when it hasn't sold as much as the 3DS has?" -_-

The same can be said for all generations. Why develop on a PS3 (which sold horribly for its first couple years) when they can develop of the majorly successful PS2?

Except games are still being made and released for the 3DS, because a platform with over 150 million users is going to have a significantly easier time recuperating products costs and turning a profit than a system with 15 million users. You don't need a business degree to know that.

It's a hot product with a much smaller userbase than the other product. Developers and publishers exist to make money, and that is much easier to do to an audience of 150 million people.

Obviously I'm not saying develop only for 3DS and ignore the Switch, but the scales have not tipped enough yet for it to be a good business decision to ditch a large profit-securing console.

That's literally what happened when the PS3 was released. Did you think all development for PS2 games came to a screeching halt when the PS3 was released?

Can you name any other big titles releasing for 3ds?
Or is it just indies?
Nintendo has slated three releases on 3ds this year and nothing else.
Gamefreak has moved Pokemon to the Switch.
Square has moved to the Switch with Octopath and Setsuna.
Level-5 is moving to the Switch with Yokai Watch.
Sega has moved to Switch with Shining Resonance and the Sonic games.
Indie dev's are flocking to the Switch.

The big games coming to 3ds this year are:
Captain Toad (Port)
Luigi's Mansion (remaster)
WarioWare (possibly getting a Switch release)
Dragon Quest 11

So one actual major new release, a shared title, a port, and a remake. And that's it. Come on now.

The first sign of a console's decline is fewer and fewer games being released for it.
The 3DS is absolutely in decline. Has been for a few months now.

I'm not saying Nintendo will ditch it completely, only that first party titles will decline and eventually stop all together.
And console production has already greatly slowed down.
Stores have gone from having dozens, to having ~5.

That depends. The Wii U still got a first party title (breath of the wild) after it was "done" so to speak.
The console was discontinued in fall of 2016, and still got a zelda game in March 2017.

Personally speaking what I meant by "done" is that either first party titles will dwindle to under 1/year, or Nintendo will announce a replacement.
No matter what I meant, I don't make account bets. I haven't been here for 15 years for nothing.

Also basically all those are super niche Japanese games that like 10K people tops will buy. And are often also on PS4 which everyone already owns.

3DS at least gets a few big-mid size name games.

Also 3DS still sells. Vita is discontinued most places and Japan its selling less than 3DS is(and physical Vita game production stops completely in March)
