It was originally going to be both Pikachu and Clefairy, with Clefairy being the main mascot, but they chose Pikachu because it was more popular in the games and because they figured its image was closer to cats/dogs/etc. and would remind kids of a pet more.

People literally traveled 1000's of miles to get here, doubt they're gonna give up over a little bit of tear gas.

It was a deterrent to stop people from breaking through the fence at that particular moment, and judging by the videos, it worked.

It's not like they're constantly throwing down tear gas being like "Ah-ha! You can't get through our impenetrable wall of tear gas!"

I have no idea what the conditions are in the caravan but I'm reasonably certain they were not such as to promote much current media literacy.

Also, desperate people do stupid things. Anyone who thinks leaving their home and country to journey to another country where the government is explicitly anti-immigrant is a superior option to staying put is almost certainly desperate.

Added to this, those people were almost certainly not under any sort of central organization. They stuck together this far for safety in numbers, but I seriously doubt there was anyone in charge of the entire operation.

Oh, no. I know. I'm not actually assuming they were some collective group all thinking/working together or anything. I'm being a bit facetious and just kinda going "the worst possible scenario for their cause happened"

I'm loving the little details in Classic Mode.

One of Sonic's fights is against Captain Falcon on the Mario Kart stage with Super Sonic Racing playing, and another is against a team of a blue, red, and yellow Kirby with Sonic Heroes playing.

Another was against Sheik in the Mushroomy Kingdom with the Secret Rings theme playing, so his stages all seem to be meant to represent the different games.

Anyway since we've got main games covered let's get into spinoffs. Skipping Monsters since you said you played it

Torneko: The Last Hope - A turn-based roguelike for Playstation, part of the Mystery Dungeon series. We actually got this one in English, oddly. All the English reviewers hated it because console gamers didn't really understand the roguelike concept yet. There is a previous game on SNES with translation patch available, but as the very first Mystery Dungeon game to exist, it's maybe a little too basic.

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime - fun, slightly Zelda-like top-down action game. Tank battles are super fun. Has a Japan-only GBA prequel and 3DS sequel, neither has a completed translation patch.

Dragon Quest Builders - You might take a look and say "it's just Minecraft with Dragon Quest" but (1) the Dragon Quest flavor/setting adds a lot to the game, and (2)it has a good amount more structure to it than Minecraft does, so if you struggle with finding something to do in Minecraft, this may work better for you.

Dragon Quest Heroes 1 & 2 - Dynasty Warriors, but with Dragon Quest. That's all I needed to hear to be sold on these. The first game is a little bit more Tower Defense-y than I'd like but it's still fun.

I've never played Fortune Street, but those typically feature DQ characters. There was also Dragon Quest Swords for the Wii. I haven't played it, reviews were pretty tepid. It is notable as a Dragon Quest game (perhaps the -only- Dragon Quest game?) that was NOT composed by Koichi Sugiyama, but rather by Mega Man 1 composer Manami Matsumae. Dragon Quest Wars is a DSiWare game by Intelligent Systems and borrows ideas from Fire Emblem and Advance Wars, but it is just too basic to be much fun. There's more that never came west that I have no experience with, like Theatrhythm and Battle Road and several of the Monsters games, too.

Ooh, thanks for this. I actually did play Rocket Slime and loved it, now that you mention it. Also bought Heroes since I looooove Warriors games, but just haven't gotten around to it yet. Builders seemed interesting, so it's good to know it's got more to it than Minecraft. May give that a try as well.

Yeah, I should be clear that I didn't think 1 was bad. It just felt... Very NES. Little direction, little story, no party, and so on. Those struggle to keep my attention for very long.

I ended up starting 4 as mentioned, DS version. Enjoying it so far! Though I'm still early, so we'll see.

If I like 4, definitely gonna try 5 and 6. If not, might skip to 7 to see what it's like since I have it and decide from there.

I've never played much of any but the Monsters series.

I've played a bit of 1 and it's a little bit too NES RPG for me.

I have 7 and 8 on 3DS and just never got around to them. I bought XI because it's on sale today.

Are 2 and 3 similar to 1? And I see 4/5/6 are on DS, are those good?

The action's fun, but am I supposed to actually be following this story/having it make sense? I can't tell if I missed something or if the story is just kinda sprinkled in to keep the action going. Don't think it's a bad thing if the latter, though, just wondering if I should be going "Uh, okay" so much or not.

That sounds like you moving goalpost.

The topic has been about new releases for almost the entirety of it, since the discussion started over somebody saying how they buy physical and then trade back in to get most of their money back and just buy it again when it's cheap if they want to play it again.

Obviously at some point digital becomes automatically cheaper because most stores won't go below the point where they're breaking even, but that's not really what's being talked about.

EDIT: The discussion was basically over whether newer games get more/better digital sales or physical sales.

I'm not really sure why this matters? We knew what kind of game we were getting the entire time. Nothing was hidden, nothing was lied about, whatever. We knew there were 150 Pokemon, we knew there was no Johto, we knew there were no held items, we knew wild battles were replaced with the Go mechanic, and so on. So you knew this whole time that the game wasn't for you. What's the point of being outraged over the fact that people like it? Just because you don't? They specifically said Gen 8 was coming next year. Wouldn't it be more wise to save anger for seeing how that turns out instead of getting so up in arms about a side game?

Yes, it has a lot of problems that can be criticized. And if the problems plague Gen 8, then that is indeed a big issue.

Ah, well I guess we see where our hard disagree is here then. I don't see Let's Go as anything but a tech demo for GameFreak built for extreme fanservice based marketing to justify itself.

Let's Go is just the Ground Zeroes of Pokmon.

Well, that's literally why Let's Go was made. It literally connects to Go and has a lot of Go's mechanics shoved into it, and they've always advertised it as a bridge type of game.

It's certainly not a fanservice love letter because a majority of the stuff they took out was stuff fans loved and got pissed about.

Again, let me be clear that I'm not saying the animations don't bother me or that they don't need to be better, because that's absolutely not true.

My initial reply was to LtM asking "Why is this acceptable in 2018," and it's "acceptable" to most Pokemon fans in 2018 because most of them couldn't care less about the battle animations. I'm not saying that's right or anything. I'm just saying there's a reason the core audience mostly ignores it

I'd also say there's a lack of effort since battling kinda takes a back seat since this game is first and foremost meant to try and get Go players to want to play the main series. If the core game stays this way, then I'd certainly say it's a bigger deal than they make it out to be, yes.

Well, Let's Go certainly isn't a game that's here for pure fanservice

It's primarily meant to be a bridge between Go players and the core series. Most of the decisions they made with it actually pissed the fanbase off until they learned it was a fun game in its own right. It's very much a game that wasn't intended to strictly please already existing fans, though.
