Only just launched in Early Access and they're already announcing DLC? And said DLC is only the tenth character?

I guess they're really banking on Workshop modders to finish this for them, aren't they?

Yeah, this just has a lot of red flags in general. Going into Early Access way too early and charging for it, announcing DLC 2 years before the actual release, the DLC apparently confirming a tiny roster, etc. It's kinda gross, honestly.

Reviews make it sound like they should have waited a bit before starting early access, since besides the lack of content, the online is terrible and the characters that are there are noticeably unfinished. They run a huge risk of souring people on it too early.

Just finished the Ace Academy tournament, which I think is basically the last of the "story" content?

Honestly, I really like these games overall. The frame rate took some very noticeable hits in a few places, and the Powerpoint NPCs/Pokemon in the distance can be weird to see, but otherwise I didn't have any crashes or anything, so my experience was good for the most part. I made sure not to look at many of the Pokemon ahead of time, so it was a joy to see a new one for the first time. The amount of actual story content also felt pretty satisfying. The open world aspect felt decent enough, though I'm not really a big fan of how it makes trainer battles basically a non-obstacle, but I'm also not sure how to fix that, since you can't really make it open world AND force battles like you could with the Route system.

All in all, pretty enjoyable. Looking forward to getting into raids and online battling more.

Axiom Verge 2 definitely doesn't look "ugly" to me.

I think people need to start accepting that there is a difference between "ugly" and "style I don't like," and that... Yes, there are going to be games that exist with styles you don't like.

There was clear effort put into Axiom Verge's style. I don't know how anyone can claim it to be a game that decided "graphics/presentation don't matter at all."

I don't think that a child-aged child would know about having to "log on" to access the internet itself. They'd only be familiar with having always-connected internet and just having to log on to an individual website or something.

"Logging on" is still very much a thing, such as logging on to PSN/Xbox Live. Even today, people use the term "logging on" to refer to getting on an internet capable computer in general, even if it's not the same as literally logging on to the internet, as through AOL or the like.

We rate this criticism as "Lacking."

This feels like a really weird, misplaced flex, given what GameFAQs is.

There is no "wider gaming community." Gaming is, even today, not a super wide, accepted thing. People super into MOBAs and shit aren't the "wider gaming community," they're just as niche as people super into old JRPGs and shit. The sooner "gamers" realize this and drop the gatekeeping nonsense, the better.

EDIT: Do you want to know what the actual "wider gaming community" is? People that play Farmville or Mario Kart Tour on their phones. Fortnite and Warzone players. Etc. People need to accept this, at some point.

Sure, but then how do movies make money? Putting new movies on streaming services brings in way less revenue then selling tickets does.

This viewpoint seems incredibly misguided, since so much more money goes into advertising for in-theater movies than needs to go into advertising streaming, and thus the idea that movies "can't" make money through streaming seems silly, especially since we have seen many do so already.

You HAVE to spend a lot more in advertising to get people to go to a theater, vs. streaming, where people can "stumble" upon your movie without having to make any sort of commitment. That, alone, makes up for a LOT of the difference in the spending that goes into a film.

EDIT: Lately, 50% or more of a film's budget goes into marketing, because you have to convince people to physically leave their home and choose to see your movie in an actual physical location. That cost drastically decreases with streaming.

I partially disagree, but mainly because it appears it's going to take me much less than 40 hours to complete my first run, so I'm not sure we played the same way. Your average run of Survive does take longer than your average run of 999, for instance, but that's because Survive has actual gameplay incorporated in it instead of being purely a visual novel. You take that gameplay out and make it pure visual novel, and it probably takes the same time or less. Thus, mileage will vary between players.

Depends how big they feel like going with the DLC. If they already have a "mid-generation" game planned, like a remake or another Arceus-esque, it'll be smaller. But if they don't, I could see the DLC being quite large.

I wouldn't be surprised if they start doing more substantial DLC in replacement of mid-generation games, though. Less effort while still bringing in the cash flow.

Nothing, probably. I'm pretty sure it's impossible to get the best ending on the first run, since certain events are scripted to happen and are unavoidable on the first run. On subsequent runs, you are able to do things to change them. The game is meant to be played multiple times, like games like 999.

I love Flamigo. He felt too strong to use in my actual party so early, and I tend to favor Pokemon that evolve, but I also like grinding out levels on Pokemon one by one, and I use Flamigo as the backup. So if I'm grinding against wilds, for instance, I'll have Pokemon X and Flamigo. If I'm in danger of dying, I send in Flamigo to finish things off. That way, a Pokemon I want to use in my main party doesn't get the extra EXP, and Flamigo's strong enough to be effective against pretty much anything.
