But the point of the constitution was to protect rights, not grant rights, that were seen to be the most important at the time with a system in place to change if and when times changed.

Then will you take back your statement that removing the 2nd amendment will make it no longer a right?

When I made my initial statement in this thread, my sentiment is that bearing arms is not in the same league as everything else. Religion and speech are a given. The others are there to prevent the government from blatantly screwing you.

Im not understanding your point here.

Human rights are inalienable. Not in the sense that a large force can't strip it from you, but in the sense that it isn't about written law.

It doesn't matter if there is a law. You have the right to do it, and a law should be created to give you the right to do it. That's how our country's law started.

My point is that we shouldn't be overly concerned with written laws when creating new laws.

Obviously not.

It's pretty funny how gun advocates don't even understand how rights were added in the first place.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_and_legal_rights

Our nation's history is based on destroying established laws and creating laws based on natural rights humans should possess. Gun ownership is incredibly out of place on the original list.

I mean beyond what is written down in a law. Human rights weren't just created when the bill of rights were drafted. We shouldn't let one law that was written hundreds of years ago be the standard for what is right.

The option to live a good life which affects every single second of your life is more important than a person's ownership of a gun.

Who decides what entails that option?

How is self-defense NOT part of such?

Gun ownership is not self defense for the majority of people. It's some stupid ego thing or a toy.

Unless you live in some super dangerous area, it's completely unneeded.

Lmao why are all of your posts hilarious?

Because you are wrong and need to laugh to make yourself feel better.

Says the person who said gun ownership isnt a right....lmfao

Did you not read anything else? Do other countries that ban guns not have rights? The 2nd amendment is a man-made rule. It is not something that humans instrinsically need to be free.

Ours laws are something that we as a society can mold to be useful.

However, I feel like this concept is going to go over your head. You're going to be like "It's in the Bill of Rights!" Well if we remove it from the bill of Rights in yet another amendment, is it still a right?

You need to think beyond what's on a piece of paper.

Where do you draw the line with this sort of thought?

Do you think the patriot act is a good thing? Should we completely do away with the 4th amendment and have the government listen to every call and read every text? It would probably stop some deaths.

Obesity and heart disease kill people. Should we ban McDonald's and cigarettes?

Drunk driving kills people. Let's make booze illegal.

People still die of hunger in this day and age. It's ridiculous, should we become a communist society as the government would ration things out so that everyone is equal and no one has to go to bed hungry?

I would argue that the free world has always put the rights of the majority over the lives of the individual.

I don't understand how your argument is relevant to what I said.
