Games, but I played the real thing back in middle school.

Magic Duels had microtransactions, but you could earn everything through effort -- that's how I did it. (If you're talking about P2W stuff from earlier installments that locked cards behind paywalls, yeah, that was pretty lame. Magic 2015 got so much flack that they eventually patched it out, heh.) I don't play MTGO, though, so I can't speak to its flaws, outside of the interface pulled from Windows 95.

If you were looking to get back into MTG, though, you could always try popular variants like Commander.

I can't play digital MTG. I get land screwed no matter what land configuration I use.

I rarely have those troubles 'cause I love green stompy decks. But true, digital shuffling isn't always amazing.

There may be a new MTG digital game (hopefully a beta) showcased in September, now that Magic Duels won't be getting any future expansions. I hear Eternal is another alright MTG-esque card game.
