Nowi might actually be my least favorite manakete! I mean like nothing against her personally, but her backstory is actually a little depressing? Like she was enslaved as a sex object for probably more years than I can fathom, and now is kind of stuck in this weird prepubescent sexualization zone. She's def the most fleshed out character but her backstory is so depressing it makes her hard to enjoy as just a cute girl dragon character.

Fair point but this really only works (and I only do it) with triple a game studios! Not sayin they don't deserve the dough, but my money is def less of a factor!

For something in the smaller studios, I'll still buy physical but I'll usually buy the superfluous DLC too so consider my white guilt tamed.

it's funny because it's absolutely true. I used to think dating while divorced would be a mark against me, but it's such a total boon. I mean imagine someone living their life after dying once, that person is going to have such a much more incredibly rich and meaningful life because they realize what's important.

Well it really depends on what you consider "better"

My rebound was a sweet indonesian girl. We had a lovely internet fling where I attached all my emotions to her, and she responded positively. We drifted apart as I started to wake up from the realization of the incompatibility of our lives.

Her rebound lived with her for a year and financially helped her stay afloat in her house (previously the house I bought to start a family in) but he turned out to be a bit of a piece of turd!

Our post rebound relationships seem to be working out well and all four of us are able to hang out civilly which is pretty cool! Truely I still love my ex, and I'm super happy when she is able to find someone who can take care of her.

seriously though! Nothing at the moment, life right now isn't bad. I got divorced, and I live alone, which you'd think would be depressing, and it is.

But like, life isn't that bad? I have a great girlfriend, we're talking about getting married, I learned chinese basics in a year, I don't know if I'd call myself fluent even while intoxicated, but I can get most points across in chinese if I need to. My writing could use some work, but my reading is superb.

My mental health seems to be doing better, I'm in the best shape of my life, and I'm making a decent amount of money at work. I'm a homeowner and my house is in good condition (although admittingly its a bit depressing and obviously owned by a single male.)

let's find out... I've literally never considered this because tops are so fluid and everchanging. This list applies to tonight. Tiki isn't even my favorite manakete in the fire emblem series, but she's my favorite video game character that will probably ever get an amiibo

This is a very sentimental list! Tom Nook and Louie make this list alone because of the games I played together with my mom, an era of my life that I REALLY miss nowadays and I don't think will ever happen again (though I was able to convince her to play sonic mania with me for a half hour my last visit). Marin is the first video game character to ever make me cry watching her sing as she fades away from reality is possibly the winner for my most powerful moment in gaming

I really like all manaketes, and really all shapeshifting fire emblem characters in general. My legal name is literally Kafka so maybe I'm more obsessed with metamorphosis than I would be otherwise. I know me liking these predominantly tiny female characters is kind of a red flag based on my past board 8 posts, but really I've come to a point in my life where I just like young girl characters for completely non complex reasons. They're just cute.

SIDE RANT: Everyone always gives the "1000 year old dragon loli" a hard time but I have never seen it extend to nah, who is a ~12 year old girl dragon you can legitly marry and have a child with. (Though I guess if you consider spouse dialogue canon you could argue that it's thousands of years before you have a child with her)

I just.. really like everything about Riki, and when he calls shulk a true heropon I legit cried, they built this character up as an idiot for 100s of hours of gameplay just so when he says this stupid asss thing it sounds genuinely sincere

They fill my personal needs in a lot of ways more than amazon/ebay do (though I'd say most of my games this year came from ebay, it's cheaper and they have the case most of the time)

Trade ins are not completely worthless. If you buy a game, play it for the first week, and trade it in you can get like 40 bucks for it, then you just wait for the digital version to go on sale for dirt cheap.

60-40+10= 30 bucks for a game you got to play (and most likely beat) on release and then keep forever after that, is a pretty decent deal imhhhho

Nuzlocking is good because when you face all player challengers your team is going to be slightly lower than required for gyms in the good pokemon games, you can grind and be over leveled but for certain parts (red) it's just too much of a time constraint.

the parts that turn boys into men are when you get wipe out, left with only one level 5 pokemon late game, and you grind the shit out of it and rebuild your team from the ground up for pure vengeance

Also keep in mind that the enemies have to be within a certain level. You can't grind on level 1s if you're maxed out, for example.

There was talk about this being a possibility but it's nice to be confirmed, I did not want to have to fight master hand 70+ times, it was my least favorite part of smash 4.

Wolf's classic mode is him against other cut characters and is called "reunited" and I love it.

There's also a new bonus stage which is cute and I appreciate it.

This is the part of ultimate I'm looking forward to the most.

I'm not surprised or disgusted? I'm just pretty disappointed! Like obviously if pokemon wanted to they could have trading- which has always been free with their cheaper games- they could have made that free. Like as much crap as nintendo gets for charging for peer to peer online, the data used in sending pokemon back and forth is basically equivalent to a character heavy text message, it's 100% reasonable to ask for that feature to be free (not that I expect it)

Edit: I would also accept pokebank being a free feature of nintendo online service! (I don't expect that either)

I think criticism when games fail to live up to their predecessor is completely valid. Jurassic World is 100% inferior to Jurassic Park, not because we hate new movies or are blinded by nostalgia, it's because you both have a piece of art that's impossible to live up to, and a descendant that sets out to do a completely different thing.

No Zelda game will ever be good in the same way that Majora's Mask is good, no Final Fantasy will ever be good in the same way FFVII is good. No pokemon will ever be good in the same way R/B is good. For older games like this, the entire being of the game is perfection because that's how the culture enjoyed the game. It doesn't mean the game is perfect, it's just a game that has endured the test of time and kept our love throughout the years.

Take FFVII (I'm going to use this game as an example because it's a game I played late) can you really even remake the game? Of course you can't. You can retell the story well enough, but with modern cutscenes you're going to add elements to the characters that weren't there before, which takes away what they were. If you fix the translation errors you're tarnishing a pure experience but if you leave them in you're just pandering to nostalgia. Even just changing the lego graphics to something more palatable takes something away from the game.

That's just what it is to try to create art that satisfies the market that past art satisfied. It's a futile endeavor. You can still make something that's fun and scratches the itch like Odyssey does for Mario 64, and you can even make a new media that surpasses the old one in every way like Shovel Knight does does for the platformers that it was inspired from.

Alucard is both a playable character in castlevania 3 and the main character of symphony of the night (plus he's in a bunch of other games as playable too)

The game is based off of castlevania 3, which is probably still the best classic-vania to this day, its a good game to start with since the multiple characters make it a less painful experience, if you like that you can go back and play castlevania 1, which is just as good on a technical and difficult level but there's only one character.

After that, you can go in any order you'd like but if you want to start on metroidvanias, start with symphony of the night, since it's an amazing and beautiful and perfect but also the worst of the metroidvanias so it's hard to go back to.

I think what you're glossing over are the other elements that make kirby such a phenomenal character, he's dumb yes, but also a pink ball. He's a stand in for the human condition. A vulnerable fish out of water forced to adapt quickly to the situations at hand. The game gives you a bold choice: will you remain yourself, despite the struggle that creates? Or will you don the hat and tools of the locals and try to assimilate, losing your identity in the process?
