The tiger didnt want to eat you. If a tiger wanted to kill you youd be dead.

However it seems like the tapir is the largest animal in South America and they only get up to 700 lbs or so and they are vulnerable as a species.

The prey base would probably not support a thriving tiger population.

Because there's a ton of suitable prey for them here.

Also they can make prey of black bears.

Like you, I've been out of college for a long, long time.
And even now, at 45 years of age, my most frequent recurring type of dream is of me in college, and I realize I've forgotten one of my classes for most of the semester, and the day I remember I'm still enrolled in it, of course it's past add/drop and there's a big exam.

I think it's mostly that inland people have no experience with seafood other than fishsticks.
