in october a friend challenged me to a simple picross puzzle. I'd heard of picross but had no idea how to play. My friends spent 20 minutes or so showing me the most basic techniques, and then answered some questions I had over the next couple days, and then I was off to the races.

I started with Super Mario Picross for Super Famicom. 9 Levels, and then the Special Level. Those last few puzzles were really tough!!

I guess I'm in the market for a new picross game for Switch. Recommendations?

(I also haven't done the Wario stages yet)

I truly don't remember how long this game is or even most of the individual plot points, but it sure feels like you've hit enough that you have to be reaching some *answers* and turning points. I can't wait to read your thoughts

when I was playing through Super Mario Bros 3, I did convince my mother to leave the NES on over the course of a couple days. Of course, someone bumped it and the game froze before I beat the game.

one of my most memorable b8 things was with a guy I think named justin crossing? something like that. we were paired in some challenge where we had to post back and forth as many times as possible without someone else breaking our chain. We both stayed up super late and got hundreds of posts. very fun

"Do you text in the shower?" was Realo's bulletproof opener. As I recall the rationale was that it makes the girl think about you while they are in the shower, which I guess makes them more likely to sleep with you or something

like I do realize it can be annoying to see his same mouth open face especially if the algorithm feeds you content where he guests on things, because he's done the research to know *exactly* what kinds of thumbnails work. And he doesn't want his name on things that don't work. So if he's gonna be a guest on something, he wants it to do well, y'know?

From what I understand it's him coming from a rich family, spending loads of money doing wild stuff to post on YouTube, and then going up in popularity from there.

I saw a deep dive on Mr. Beast ripoff channels that was interesting where they try to ripoff his content and they have the money to do so, but not the creativity.

That said, he's a super charitable dude so I don't mind him much.

But I think the Mr. Beast Burger thing is a ghost restaurant deal where they come out of another restaurant.

Yeah, specifically it started during the covid restaurant slowdowns and kept a lot of people employed

luck certainly had some part in it but the real reason Mr. Beast has been so successful at what he does is he learned how to game the algorithms better than anybody else. And he also read the room years ago to see that if you want to be a household name and face, you need a positive association with it. Thus the incredible charity he's done throughout North Carolina and elsewhere.

This is not to say he's a saint. His recent Elon worship has been soooo cringe. But he's <i>by far</i> the "best" of the young youtube millionaires. Just saying he gives money to charity is underselling it -- you should really check out some of those Beast Philanthropy videos.

reading this, my single piece of advice is for you to push yourself beyond what you are currently comfortable with or what you think you can presently handle, whatever method of getting back into shape you choose

It's really scary though. Like, before Covid? Absolutely, pushing for that last lap at the track or that last set on the weight bench, or the first time I ran a lap carrying a tire, that was the good kind of pain where you feel like a damn champion afterward.

when I (mostly accidentally) push myself now it's legit scary, like if i have a cardiac event alone in my apartment how many days until anybody notices kind of scary. idk it's hard to put into words the daily fear I have every time I have random chest pain.

So, I'm really struggling. Covid completely wiped out my stamina. I used to do sports like volleyball and hachijojima daiko and go running 3x a week, but now I get winded after 2 flights of stairs. Because of that, I've put on a ton of weight in the last 3 years. Like almost 30kg.

I hate it. I want to feel better. I'm sick of things like being on my hands and knees being painful, you know?

I've tried asking doctors here for help but japanese doctors just say "lose weight", like, they won't even entertain the thought that I might be TRYING to but it doesn't just magically happen

I guess I need to just... not think about what I used to be able to do, and approach this like i'm literally starting from 0. Do you guys have suggestions for the lowest of low impact? Obviously "walking" is a big one, and I have been doing that! but it's almost winter in Hokkaido so unless I invest in snowshoes that won't be so easy soon...

jp was kind of a jerk too but the fat jokes were still dumb.

not to defend bullying in any way, but the prevailing (unfortunate) attitude at the time was one of "it's just the internet it doesn't matter", so I think a lot of people engaged in really toxic behaviors with that as an excuse. I think some marginalized people especially lashed out against others as a defense or shield for themselves.

maybe MYC really was, deep down, a jerk. Maybe she was desperate to be accepted by a community, <i>any</i> community, and attacking someone else was the way to do it.

MYC was kind of a jerk. She made the jp fat jokes. And since I was friends with him because I too felt like an outcast here, it affected me pretty badly.

oh I have had to reckon with my own participation in that bullying. It was absolutely part of my decision a decade ago-ish to just be more genuine on the internet and stop living a life steeped in cynicism and sarcasm

jp is another person I'd love to see again if only to apologize, not that I deserve the chance

kitadaito was the best place I ever lived. I cannot speak highly enough about it. I miss that sense of community so much. I'm a small town person at heart.

wow is it really okay for me to rate all the games I missed?

as for COD4, I definitely enjoyed it a lot. 2 and 4 were both bangers. Legit shocking moments in this game. A solid 7/10 from me.
