I played a video game today, ha ha, what fun it was.

I smiled as I turned on my branded console and booted up the DLC.

I thought about the TOP 10 REASONS video games are fun, and I realized:

1. they are enjoyable
2. it is fun to go on adventures
3. challenge
4. skill
5. sound
6. controls
7. setting
8. gameplay
9. story
10. overall

are all great reason why i love video games. These are really the things I love about games.

unfortunately, as I was playing Nintendo Switch, I got a little bored. idk it just seemed like the game i used to love, Mario and Zelda, for example, now seemed bland, watered-down, facile, inane, and, if we are being honest, pointless.

so I'm reading the Divine Comedy, and I'm reading about Hell, and Dante's got this crazy ass hellscape, with this insane place, the Malebolgia, locked deep in the bowls of the Inferno.

this Malebolge (evil pocket) is filled with blood, tar, shit, dismemberment, devils, and all kinds of really horrible stuff. It's a pretty intense book, but overall I'd say its pretty good. Anyway, life's kind of like that--at least the Fraud part that Dante's super concerned with.

the thing that sticks with me is that fraud doesn't come at you like a monster, it comes with a smile and an honest face. wait why was i talking about this? got sidetracked: video games used to be fun but lately they have felt like a fraud? is that it?

maybe i'm thinking too hard: it's just Mario and Zelda, right?

honestly old guides are old and maybe i will just leave them up. i think some of the people in this topic, in one way or another, are kind of arguing for that.

anyway im reasonable and can embrace ambiguity

here's the thing tho, im not wrong about anything else

i'll definitely not be contributing to the site, at least for the foreseeable future. that includes just sending less ad revenue their way in general.

I was actually think about how I always wanted to write more FAQs, and how it would be good to keep this style of guide alive.

anyway, i was writing guides for 3 games but im not gonna do that anymore. no point. Friday the 13th for NES was basically done. the other guides have bad information, but it's very technical and not objectively interesting. that guide has been unfinished for years--i think someone actually beat me to it and actually looked at the code...but there is the nagging suspicion that something's still missing.

there's a lot of work that could be done on guides for that game. and other games. older guides just tell you how to beat the game, my guide was more like how to win 100% of the time and also do it really fast but not like speedrun fast.

also i was gonna write a Valheim guide but whatever. sad stuff.

the lumines plus tower method is safe for now. i wont delete my guides.

i ran a whole NES website in 2003-2004. we had TONS of contributors creating all kinds of random cool shit about NES games. comics, creative non-fiction essays, challenges, romhacks, shrines, art, and stuff

pretty much all that is gone. i think the waybackmachine has a few of the pages but none of the files or images.

i was hosting some indie games i made on google pages and they nuked all that shit from orbit, that's all gone

geocities and the like all got nuked
