I used to do that in JRPGs all the time, mostly because of the 'storing powerful and very hard to get items for a rainy day that never comes' thing but also because I personally thought that most of the common consumable items tend to be pretty weak in effect. However after playing some games where the items tend to be more powerful and you can work to get all the healing items and be able to build a stock of them, even the most powerful ones, at endgame somewhat easily, I was able to overcome that way of thinking and I now tend to use healing items much more freely without guilt.

Death end re;Quest does have a pretty nice occult theme to it among several other themes that it plays with, and I personally feel that it defiantly leans into it as one of its most core themes, at least in the first half of the game. And overall, it's a very nice turn-based JRPG to play through if you don't mind some VN scenes too.

So I just found this, and umm...after reading the entire thread it's unreal what they're doing with Diablo Immortal. I like to never, ever tell people what games they should or shouldn't play since I want people to just have fun playing what they like. But this...I just want to warn that this is entirely designed to prey on a player in a way no other gacha today does.
