I generally agree with this, although I wouldn't cite the Kavanaugh situation as an example. There's a fringe witch-hunt element to #MeToo but you can strip those voices away from the Kavanaugh case and there's still fire there.

Democrats have a much better record on civil rights since the last major party realignment. Too many of the party officials just stick their finger in the wind instead of actually leading on these issues, but they usually make the right choice once it's politically expedient to do so. At least they don't dig in their heels like the GOP.

The bigger argument I have with Democrats (which will have to wait until the Trump emergency is dealt with) is that the "progressive" movement-- which used to be purely a civil rights movement-- is now inextricable from Democratic Socialism. I'm okay with universal healthcare because it's the fiscally responsible choice, as you pointed out. But all the other wealth redistribution programs... not so much.

Some of the hate stems from genuine confusion. It doesn't help that Republicans like Rand Paul pretend to have Libertarian credentials, or that the Tea Party waves around Atlas Shrugged as if it's their manifesto. Many people who profess to hate Libertarians have no idea what the official party platform says and hold up strawman Republican caricatures in its place.

In any case... some especially surly Liberals (and Russian bots) are making it really not-fun for me to be aligned with the left right now, but we have to keep our eyes on the prize. I'm laser-focused on removing Trump-Republicans from power, no matter how hard people try to pound on the Liberal / Libertarian wedge.

If Democrats lose the midterm election then I expect the Democratic party to become the party of states' rights and the Republican party to abandon the states' rights mantra. Trump wants someone who will make him a king, and Republicans want liberal tears. It's not even really about Roe at this point. There were 25 more Gorsuches on the list who would have given Republicans all the same rulings with none of the risk, but they still placed their bet on Kavanaugh, who stands a small but non-zero chance of Bill Cosbying himself out of a job in the next few years. This was not a smart political play.

I believe Ford and I think it's extremely unlikely that she's mistaken about the identity of her attacker. There's just enough uncertainty in my mind, where I'd say that we can't deprive Kavanaugh of his civil rights or imprison him. There are ample leads to follow and witnesses to speak to, for anyone who's actually interested in the truth, but the GOP is clearly afraid of what they might find. Add it to the pile of evidence that the GOP has a serious rape problem...

-They refuse to investigate the allegations against Kavanaugh
-A majority of the Republican electorate wanted Kavanaugh to be confirmed even if he raped a girl (polling confirms)
-An alleged child rapist with 13 accusers came within a percentage point of winning a Senate seat in Alabama, simply because he had an R next to his name; 8% of Republican voters believed that Roy Moore was guilty and voted for him anyway.
-If you donated money to the GOP in 2017, you directly funded the campaign of the aforementioned alleged child rapist
-The Republican president was caught on tape bragging about sexual assault and allegedly raped his wife because his scalp hurt after a hair transplant; he also allegedly walked in on underage girls in their changing rooms, and he regularly sexualizes his daughter.

These examples are all within the last 2 years.

Dont get me wrong: Im not giving up on Republicans. Many have told me privately that they knew Nunes and Trump were dead wrong, but they wouldnt speak out for fear of incurring the presidents Twitter wrath.

I've given up on nearly all Republican officials above the city council level. If they aren't going to step up and speak out when our Democracy is in crisis then what good are they? Aside from maybe Kasich and Romney, the current crop of Republican leaders are useless at best, traitors (like Nunes) at worst.

I played the hell out of D3 when it first came out, up until I hit a wall in Inferno difficulty. Back then, you had to play each difficulty level all the way through, in order (no skipping) and the final difficulty level straight-up item-checked you in Act II. Drops were pitiful and the real-money auction house was just... icky.

Fast-forward to earlier this year: I picked up the expansion and booted the game back up... it's unrecognizable from the launch version. They improved D3 by leaps and bounds in the time I had it sitting on my shelf.

I'm ready for D4.

He was plainly dishonest about the vocabulary he used in his yearbook, his claims about never passing out have been refuted by several classmates and contradict the written record, and his avoidant attitude towards the FBI investigation is simply not the way that an innocent person would act.
