Demand exceeds the housing supply, and the number of housing units exceeds both the natural water supply of the state and the capacity of our freeway system. We can buy water from other states but groundwater isn't negotiable. We can't afford the taxes that would be required to build more sprawling freeway lanes to our inland deserts. Everything published on wikileaks proper seems to be legit / non-doctored, and I have no problem with journalists using those docs as a jumping-off point for further investigation. No doubt the operation is a Russian propaganda arm though... the timing of the info dumps and selective withholding of information is patently dishonest.

Two of my city's five council districts have unsubtle, implicit Republican vs. Democratic choices, although the races aren't expected to be "competitive" in the sense that the results aren't expected to be close (although there's no real polling data to go on, just previous results). My city leans R as a whole and isn't stratified enough to be effectively gerrymandered at this level.

I've never voted straight down the party line before, but I'm basically doing it this year. The only exceptions are my local city council and sheriff races, which are technically non-partisan but the incumbents are openly Republican and I'll be voting them back in. It's not a blind party vote; I studied and evaluated every race individually, and I landed on all Democrats.

I voted for Gary in 2016 and still consider myself to be a Libertarian but I'm solidly a Democratic ally unless or until the GOP burns to the ground and reforms into something entirely new.

The first section of the 14th has only ever been interpreted and applied in one way since its inception. All children born under US jurisdiction are citizens, period. It's even more clear cut than the 2nd, of which I'm a staunch defender. I'd better not hear any of my fellow 2A supporters start arguing over the meaning of the phrase "...and subject to the jurisdiction thereof..."

It was provocative for its time. Remember, this movie came out in 2005, not far removed from September 11 and before LGBT rights had popular support among Americans. The issues touched upon in the film were much more hotly debated back then. If the film doesn't seem "deep" today, that's just a reflection of how backwards we were 13 years ago.

Sorry to nitpick your wording, but... the polls weren't wrong-- they were within the margin of error. And when you look at how much the polls have been "off" by (within their margin) over the decades, 2016 was on the high end but it's not the highest.

What's unique about 2016 is that everybody wanted to play Forecaster and most of them had no business doing so. The polls were right, the models were wrong (most of them).

I hate that our vocabulary has become so tainted and dumbed-down. There are no good replacement words for "globalism" and "nationalism," and it seems like no one is capable of discussing these competing worldviews in a good-faith, academic fashion, because the nomenclature has become too euphemistic and toxic.

In any case, there's no point in trying to decipher Trump's intentions here. The man is a serial liar, hypocrite, and conman. I don't really care which way he meant it and it's not worth anyone's time to try to figure it out.

I remember that too. And immediately after Trump was declared the winner, people gave Nate shit for 30% being too low. I mean, I've always felt that prob / stats is counter-intuitive and I knew that a majority of the world's population is innumerate... but what I didn't fully appreciate until 2016, is that there are a lot of otherwise highly educated, intelligent people who legitimately don't understand what 1-in-3 odds means. Worse, they're extremely overconfident in their own misconceptions.

National politics: environmentally conscious Libertarian
Local politics: lean Democratic; willing to raise local taxes for local services

I reconcile the two with a "laboratories of democracy" ethos. We should be free to test economic hypotheses in a manner similar to the scientific method, but in a minimally impositional way. The more local the government, the more feasible it is for unwilling participants to opt out (i.e. by moving one city over).

I find myself increasingly allied with Democrats, although I oppose Democratic Socialism and identity politics.

Master Hand beat Kuja by a 6% margin, 13 years ago. It's not exactly a surprise that Master Hand was capable of beating Noctis, but I wouldn't say it was a sure thing based on just that single data point. Noctis is an FF lead protagonist and raw votals are only around like 20% of what they used to be. Master Hand's xstats advantage was far from ironclad, imo.
