In the end, unless your coworker has severe underlying issues, they shouldnt worry about it.

Ive had it, a ton of my coworkers have had it, and the most severe symptom we encountered was the body aches. The whole not going anywhere at all for 10-14 days does suck, though.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but contact tracers in some areas aren't allowed to ask if someone has attended a protest. So there won't be data since the people in charge of collecting data isn't looking for that info in first place.

Source of one: https://www.businessinsider.com/nyc-contact-tracers-not-asking-people-attend-george-floyd-protest-2020-6

Heard this was happening early on, and I havent heard anything to the contrary since.

Sturgis was definitely worse, and nobody took any precautions, but the protests are likely spreading Covid, as well. Most of the masks people are wearing at these events are bandanas or neck gaiters, which are ineffective at stopping the spread.

And no, theyre not having sneezing contests, but theyre screaming and shouting regularly in close proximity to one another.

In summation, events like Sturgis are fucking moronic right now, as evidenced here. Protests are also likely spreading Covid, albeit a slower rate.

I highly doubt the spit hood contributed to his death.

A cocktail of illegal substances, combined with the restraint methods, is what killed him. Positional asphyxiation is more likely with a subject who is high on PCP or even a large amount of cocaine. The elevated heart rate mixed with the twisting or compression of the chest cavity are what seem to normally cause these issues.

Its what I believed Floyd to have died from, initially, due to the way hed been handcuffed face down on the pavement for so long with pressure on his back, his shoulders locked back due to the cuffs, and the pavement making it difficult for his chest to expand.

Cops are allowed to shoot for any reason at all

Remember that cop that shot a whole family at Costco because he fell down?

Cops are not allowed to shoot for any reason at all, but the problem in some of these instances is that the legal standard lies with a reasonableness that has to take into account what the officer saw, felt, and knew at the time.

That leaves no clear-cut definition as to when lethal force is allowed, and it would be very difficult to legislate an across-the-board point at which lethal force is authorized because of the fluidity of these interactions.

None of us want to see people dying. No cop I know wants to have to pull the trigger on another human being. We all know we may have to, and some of us are better equipped physically, mentally, and emotionally to deal with certain situations that might help prevent the escalation to lethal force.

However, it is sometimes an unavoidable point, and there have been plenty of shootings on video that can attest to the inescapable nature of a fatal confrontation on the right (or wrong) day, night, etc.

My issues with this shooting are extensive.

  1. I would like a definitive answer as to the nature of the initial contact.
  2. I would like to hear the interaction with Blake, from beginning to end.
  3. I would like to know if Blake had a knife, as it looks like in that still frame.
  4. The officers handled this incredibly poorly, from a tactical standpoint. You have a subject with an active arrest warrant, previous violent history (which they may or may not have known), who is, at best, non compliant but more likely actively resisting arrest. You have the numbers, youre approximately 2-3 feet from him, and you know that thats his vehicle. Stop relying on your taser to be the be-all, end-all. At that distance, youre not getting the spread to lock his body up anyway. Youre close enough that, if he does have a knife, youre already beyond the point of no return. You need to push forward and engage, control his arms.
  5. The other officers need to circle around and prevent Blake from getting to that driver door. I know theres a lot going on, but Ive been in knock-down drag out fights, and I know the guys that showed up had the awareness to cut off means of escape and/or weapon retrieval; this is why high intensity types of trainings are beneficial to preventing shootings, not contributive.
I also have clear, unequivocal issues with firing your weapon into a vehicle, especially one with children inside.

This is not an exhaustive list of my issues with this, as Im typing this on my phone while pumping gas, but you get the gist.

A little insight into crowd reliability on hot calls...

Per a Seattle Police Officer, who WITNESSED a stabbing a subsequently chased the suspect, this is what unfolded:

Suspect attempts to toss the weapon onto a roof, fails, knife lands 10-15 feet away. Suspect attempts to blend into a nearby crowd, officer draws his weapon and orders suspect onto the ground. Suspect complies, but the bigger issue is that the crowd is now surrounding both men, screaming at the officer that the man didnt do anything, so why was the officer messing with him?

Backup arrives, crowd control commences, arrest is made.

On the scene of the stabbing, an officer is trying to stop the bleeding because a large crowd has now gathered there and is becoming increasingly hostile; theyre asking the cop why he shot the man, etc., and its a large enough crowd that the fire department wont come in to offer medical aid.

The man survived, but that crowd almost killed him by delaying help because they incorrectly assumed they knew what was happening.

Im not condoning how this was handled, but you need to understand that its very difficult to trust anyone until the situation is under control and all possible threats are, at least, temporarily detained.

Then you can listen to each version of events and find the truth.
