lets take a second and thing:

would increased police presence and increase funding have prevented these car jacking?

What car jackings?

Is that what you were referring to when you mentioned armed robberies?

Increased police presence coupled with prosecution of criminals whove been caught does, in fact, lower crime.

NYCs drop in crime from the 80s/90s largely corresponded with an increase in police. Deterrence is a real thing, and people are less likely to commit crimes in areas where theyre more likely to be caught (I.e. where there are more police).

or would the cops have done stuff such as sitting on their ass with a radar gun seeing who passed by 2 miles over the limits, pulling over a bunch of black people, harassing random minorities because they fit the description of someone else and stuff like that @patchwork ?

What an incredible straw man argument youve created here, to solidify your baseless hate of the police.

Do you want to have a real conversation about policing in your community, and what could be done to make it safer, or do you just want to parrot horseshit baseless takes that you cant back up with any semblance of data?

they would basically be all about putting these (wealthy) minorities in their place and solve little crimes

What a strange mindset.

Yes. Armed robberies are happening because police are sending fathers to jail / killing them for no reason, so kids have no support and resort to extreme measures to support their families. When an armed robbery occurs, it's over by the time police get there. If the police get there and they are still there, it is now a hostage situation and the police aren't trained to deal with those situations. At best the police are useless. At worst the police create the problem.

Increasing police presence will only resort to the factors that increase the probability of violent crimes occurring in the future.

this is the most asinine shit Ive ever read.

They stopped his vehicle leaving the scene, it sounds like. Its still going to be called a traffic stop, by most people, even though its a PC stop of a motor vehicle for felony offenses.

Its absolutely realistic to compartmentalize and to separate personal beliefs from professional duty. The vast majority of police, firefighters, paramedics, etc, all do it on a daily basis without issue.

I also am of the personal opinion that dealing fentanyl should carry a mandatory minimum 20 year sentence, and I work primarily narcotics and gang cases, yet Ive had countless interactions with drug dealers wherein were just two people talking after the arrest is made.

Ive literally sat with people that I chased for four blocks and had hour long conversations while we waited for charges to be finalized, transports to be lined up, etc.

Its called being professional, and its truly not that difficult.

Public servants arent going to subscribe to all of your beliefs, and they shouldnt. All that matters is that they leave personal issues at the door on the way in.

People who are actively committing violent crimes against other human beings and are killed in the process did, in fact, deserve it.

Theres nothing to downplay. If you try to kill the police or another person and are subsequently killed as a result of that confrontation, then it was your choices that led you there.

Not all police killings are justified, and those that arent should be prosecuted, but Im not going to pretend that someone killed while actively trying to kill the police didnt deserve it.

Aaron Swan killed a police chief, wounded another cop, and then tried to kill two Pittsburgh Detectives.

He was killed in the shootout, and he absolutely deserved it.

Anyone who rapes a six year old child should never have been released back into society in the first place. The way sex crimes are treated in this country is an absolute travesty, and its heart-breaking for the children who have to somehow try to grow and live a normal life after suffering the most horrific violation of their innocence.

If I'm reading it right, they collided, forcing the drone to make a controlled crash or emergency landing. So they probably both took damage, but the jet was able to keep flying whereas the drone needed to be brought down.

So they did collide, and they nearly crashed.

EDIT: but honestly the bigger part of the story is Russian jets openly attacking a US drone over international waters. That's a pretty stark escalation on their part, even IF the drone was doing recon or something to give intel to Ukraine.

I didnt see anything in the article about the Russian jet attacking the drone. Did I miss it?

Waiting for the investigators to have actual evidence it was a hate-motivated crime is such a hard concept here.

You cant immediately add hate crime enhancements just because the crime was committed against a protected class; you have to prove that motivation, which is difficult because it relies on the motive.

Motive isnt integral to a conviction in most cases, and it is often hard to decipher without confessions because it has to do with the defendants thought process.

It isnt impossible, but it is going to take digging through the phones of the accused, through social media, through internet history, etc.

You cant come out and say it was a hate crime, as law enforcement, without your ducks in a row first.
