TopicIs your opinion on abortion, abortion on demand?
OmegaM

Yes, but mainly because there's a clear line between unborn and born. I suspect that killing a day-old baby doesn't cause the baby to suffer much more than killing a baby the day before it's born, but I worry that if we start allowing any born people to be killed at will, we'll be tempted to add more and more groups of born people to that category.

The moment of conception would be another clear point at which to say a human organism has to be protected, but I can't make myself care about all those fertilized eggs that never implant and pass out of the mother's body, and I think that if you really believe that fertilized eggs deserve to live, you can't be indifferent to the ones that don't implant.

I'm sure it was unconscious prejudice or just a fluke, but you have to wonder why they didn't just make all the corn pops yellow. Maybe at one point there were many yellow and many brown corn pops in the picture, but then later the people at Kellogg's decided it looked better to have all yellow corn pops and just forgot to change that one corn pop's color? I guess you could say that it was due to unconscious prejudice that the artists didn't notice that the janitor corn pop was still brown, but we'll probably never know.

I don't really care as long as it's somehow obvious on the boss itself that you hurt it; otherwise you have no idea when you're on the right track. It's good if the boss also has a life meter, but it doesn't have to be there if it would clutter up the screen.

I know it's become a joke since it's not really a Street Fighter game and takes place in 2010, which was an implausible year even when the game came out (1990), but it looks like a decent, though hard, game in the style of Mega Man. It has some good music, too.

I might think differently if a lot of its difficulty comes from bad play control. Is that the case? I haven't actually played it.

I can make a partial list (not necessarily in order of quality), but it won't be very original. I haven't played too many of the "obscure" NES games that people say have good music.

Super Mario Bros.
Legend of Zelda
Metroid
Final Fantasy
Kirby's Adventure
Dragon Warrior IV
Mega Man 2
Castlevania
Darkwing Duck

Actually, I haven't played Darkwing Duck either, but I think its music is pretty good. Fairly often I go on Youtube to listen to the music or to watch a bit of a playthrough of the game.

I could just finish the list out with other games from series I've listed, but I might not agree with that in the long run. >_>

I felt like beating it again without deliberately looking for secrets just to see if it would still be fun. I guess it is, but the characters are so tiny and the screen occasionally so bright that the graphics sometimes verge on bad. The game definitely looks more real on the SNES, based on the videos I've seen.

Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World (new) from a GameStop about a month ago. I always go to GameStop first because I have that PowerUp Rewards card from them. Maybe I got suckered into getting it, but I do have only the free version.

I thought the game was pretty good, but that was because I did not use easy mode or any of those badges that make levels easier, and because I made some effort to find the flowers and other collectible items. If you just try to get to the end of the game, you'll probably find it too easy.

If you have season tickets that you want to cancel, I bet the team would even let you do so if you threatened to give them bad publicity.

OmegaM

I think that if you're pro-life from the moment of conception onward, you're a bit hypocritical if you're fine with the fact that a lot of fertilized eggs don't implant and pass out of the mother without her knowledge. If you think that all human organisms deserve to live, you can't just ignore a huge group of them that are dying for no reason. Maybe you should push for more funding of research into helping more fertilized eggs implant, even if it means taking away funding from research into "less important" diseases (whatever you think those might be).

Since I can't make myself care about these fertilized eggs that fail to implant, I'll probably never be an extreme pro-lifer. As I said in that other topic, I'm okay with abortion at any time before birth, but that's largely because it's an easy line to draw. I'm fine with looking down on a woman who gets a late-term abortion because she wants to go on a ski trip, say---though I've read that almost no woman gets a late-term abortion for a frivolous reason like that.
TopicAre you generally pro life or pro choice?
OmegaM
09/23/17 11:17:22 AM

I'm pro-choice for a woman's whole pregnancy. Maybe for some period of time after a baby is born, you could put that baby "to sleep" without him or her fearing death, which is what in other people I empathize most with. However, I worry that if a society starts allowing babies outside the womb to be killed, that society will be tempted to keep raising the age at which humans gain protection from being killed until, say, five-year-old kids are allowed to be killed. The line between inside and outside a woman's body is at least a pretty clear line to draw.

Obviously it's best if we all do what we can to make sure a woman never gets pregnant in the first place unless she wants to be a parent, since an abortion is a somewhat significant medical procedure (though safer than giving birth, or so I've heard).
