Here's the thing with Flotage. I think it's pretty neat, alright? It's a good song. It's definitely not my favorite Black Label song. I really like the instruments the game uses, and I think those instruments are best when they're *ahem* mercilessness. This is a soundtrack that I want going absolutely as hard as possible, no holds barred. When I listen to these instruments, I want to be crushed between Basiscape's thighs until my head explodes, killing me instantly. In most other soundtracks, a song like this is probably the better bet for me. Not this time. Shoutouts deo saying the composer was Namiki.

Nostalgic as hell, and actually a pretty great song. World at War honestly has a soundtrack worth listening to, and is probably the only CoD game with notable music outside of like Zombies or other weird cases. Yes, I'm the Call of Duty guy as a meme. This game isn't one. I think a large part of that is that this game is both grounded and takes itself seriously. Instead of being focused on drama and betrayals, futuristic technology or double-agent MK Ultra nonsense, it seemed, as I remember, to respect the horrors of war and the reasons why some think it's necessary and volunteer to fight. The soundtrack reflects that. On one hand, you have this wonderfully triumphant theme that's tinged with the pain required to get here, and on the other, Brav Soldat, which is one of the most haunting songs I've ever heard. This song doesn't come across as vapid or jingoistic, just celebrating the end of a task that needed to get done

It's pretty simple, but I realize as I do this tier that that doesn't bother me if I find the song compelling, so I can't hold it against this! In other words, this is a song that many other people would probably dislike, but these are my ratings, so I can't hold it against this! I just reread Mistborn and the lyrics are somehow reminiscent of that, so there's a bonus there

It was kind of a bold choice for Square to demand that soundtrack videos include gameplay footage to not get killed, as seeing this gameplay is making me less likely to want to play the game.

Groovy. Schmoody. Hmm. Schmoovy? That sounds like it works, but doesn't feel like it describes what I want it too. Groody is just completely wrong. Scientists need to dedicate their efforts towards portmanteauing these words to synthesize new visceral descriptions. While they're at it, make a real word that has five unique consecutive vowels. I like this well enough I recognized I *should* know it in a siiva list, and was very frustrated that I missed the insane because i couldn't quite place it. This is also oddly reminiscent of the SMT Wandering song

I am apparently the only person in the VGM world that knows Call of Duty Zombies songs, and, weirdly enough, they've *grown* on me over time. God damn were the WaW and Black Ops songs good. I'd put Paredolia and probably 115 above this, though 3rd place ain't bad. As a whole, I don't *love* the structure of the song. However, some of the effects are really good, and most importantly, it has this weird kind of melancholy going throughout it, particularly the last two sung lines, which are so good. I generally detest growling in songs. Here, I guess it being used in moderation, being tempered by the aforementioned constructions and the arguable justification of having them be present in a *zombie* song, makes it something I can ignore pretty easily. At 3;10, when the panning is entirely on one ear, something it sounds like I'm hearing negative noise (a nonsensical concept, I know) rather than silence in my left ear. A vacuum produced somehow.

didnt even know this was nommed when I was listening to it all week. it's a "basic" western orchestral song, one that actually manages to keep itself moving and interesting. Granted, it's basically just the Halo theme, which we all know is great. Still, the way it's kind of stretched and modified for this in-game version fits very well. Like PSO2, it utilizes how the main melody is heroic rather than emotional very well, adapting it to this dramatic escape while relying on its context as a main theme, rather than how it sounds, for the emotional impact. speaking of extremely nostalgic songs (take note other raters: in general, the songs you rated adjacently temporally will not show up in other score-wise)... this. Jesus Christ, maybe I'm getting old in years, because this is really hitting me. I have games I liked more from back then, games I played more back then, but Smash is beloved by each generation for a reason. There's really something special about being a kid and playing this game with your friends. And fuck, I loved the story and spent a lot of time in stage builder, so it's like cheating how this plays on the main motif that I heard so often. I haven't listened to this in ages either. In retrospect, this was probably my second favorite VGM after Legendary Air Ride Machine (and *maybe* Big Blue) as a kid, so fuck it, a biased, too-high score you get. Oh, the song itself? It's good, obviously, and nothing I'd say here isn't obvious and hasn't been said a million times already

My friend commented that this song is pretty good but not outstanding when I showed it to him. I think I agree, and it falls under Dire's theory of VGMC Mediocrity, where the winner is more likely to be a song that doesn't strongly repel many people as opposed to one that inspires. Of course, this song *does* inspire many people. I'm not quite sure why. It *is* quite good, but not a song that'd stand out to me as something I *needed* to nom or support. What is this, Ayesha? You can't blend flutes and guitars like that! It's definitely Blazblue music. A lot of the percussion (and syncopation?) it has interesting, and helps it stand out from the pack. Not so much the instrumentation, just how it's used

The Dark Shit Outta Luck. This is gusty. The vocaloid is fine. I think by now you can recognize the trend of how vocaloids do: if they're used like actual singers and aren't obnoxious, I don't really mind them. When they're the defining feature is when it's problematic. Of course, I'd prefer an *actual* singer, but it is what it is. The rest of the song is strong enough to carry. It goes on a bit too long, which is balanced by the moderate variety the song has

I didn't even realize you'd nommed this when it was used in the Generations survival list. This has a good sense of urgency mixed with tension. I think it's almost entirely those low orchestral hit things that make the song... maybe. Things feel "off" somehow, and I'm grasping at those to explain it. Perhaps even without those I'd still get the same sensation. Like, is this in a weird mode or use a lot of diminished intervals or something?

Emperor Battle for Dune is such a funny soundtrack. Each faction gets their own stylized themes, and just about everybody agrees that the Harkonnen's is by far the best. Occasionally you'll see somebody who likes another team and it's a shocking aberration, like having Strepitoso Fight be your favorite Trails battle theme

Some songs are hard to grasp. There's plenty of music Mycro or Haste love that many people just won't "get", even with very detailed explanations about all of the weird unique things the songs are doing. Collen and Place and Cako can be plagued by this, and, on another side, Superb's taste can suffer this too. People looked askance at Super Nice Dog's very basic VGMC nominations, and some people only like major consonant 4/4 pop ballads that I'd be driven insane by, and they in turn wouldn't understand why I like half the stuff I do. Tastes are varied, of course, but more fundamentally, tastes are varied such that it can be difficult to even emphasize with the taste of other people. They'll hear a song, scoff at it, ask not even "why?" somebody likes it but "how?" they could, and fail to get over the barrier separating us from one another to Connect. My point is as follows: I don't have anything to say about this song besides "like it or not, you'll be able to understand why somebody would"
