Oh wow. Guy in the championship match in my money league lost both Gurley and Beckham this week. He had to start the likes of Jarvis Landry, Derrick Henry, and Taylor Gabriel and still managed to put up 142.92 points. He was up by like 9 points and his opponent had Kelce going in the Sunday night game but Kelce couldn't pull through for that guy and he won by 1.44 points without Gurley/Beckham in the championship match.

Well I was feeling good about my draft but that info about backup DE's is concerning.

Love the theme so a bit tempting but I'm heading out of town at the end of next week and will be gone for about a week at that point. So that's already a no go for me but I also have some before Christmas obligations that'll also take up my time so thanks for the offer but I can't. I'll try and follow along though!

I mean, I outlined earlier that Freeman hasn't actually been all that good despite his rating and he's hardly new. So I'd be skeptical of him succeeding with the Raiders but maybe a change of scenery will help but history says he's a mediocre player at best.

I don't really do grades but I already had you taking a HB and an OG in my mock so I already think you did good. Nabbing a DE to pair with Spears was great though. Think the selection at CB was more of a luxury pick with your oldest CB only being 28 but that's not necessarily a bad thing. So I think it's been a really good draft so far.

Who did you end up taking?

I took the QB, Kirby Freeman. Outside of a couple years he hasn't been all that good. Had I remained with the Titans I was actually going to consider trying to trade him or possibly not even resigning him. He manged to reach 90 OVR after his rookie year but over the years, and especially last year, it became clear to me that the Titans' skill position players (always had two 90 OVR WR and a high 80's HB) elevated Freeman's play rather than the other way around. I sacrificed several offensive players to make the defense better and then with Fitzgerald injured last year, Freeman simply couldn't overcome those losses. Had the defense not balled out in the middle of the season the Titans would not have made the playoffs. Maybe with a healthy Fitz they'll do better this year but we'll have to wait and see.

As for the DE I passed up, that was Brick Massey who entered the league as a 90 OVR. I recently asked KCF how he had been doing and he told me he has low sack numbers but seems to be more of a run-stuffer anyway. He's had a solid enough career.

With all that said, I have no idea what's the right move. Drafting Garoppolo doesn't necessarily mean he'll elevate the play of your other guys like Bryant. Or he could be the next Tannehill. Really no way of knowing as every draft is different. I suppose my advice would be this, and I have no idea if this is right or not, but when you have a bad team like the Chiefs or Titans that continually struggle, pick a side of the ball and commit to it. Try and make that side of the ball better and supplement the other side of the ball when available. Hopefully the side you start focusing on plays better and then you can start focusing on the other side. That's what I was trying to do with the Titans anyway.

Garoppolo seems like the obvious choice at #1, but I can't rule out Barrett. I desperately need someone opposite Jamie Collins at LB. And i would love the novelty of drafting the top prospect in two straight drafts. Hope i don't overthink this.

Oh I remember being in this position before. Pretty much this exact position even except it was a DE instead of an OLB. Can't remember what position the QB was in but it was Top 5 as well.

I've got my eye on a couple players at 13 but if they end up getting taken I may be interested in moving down. I'd probably be looking at acquiring a 2nd round pick and/or a player. So if you're going to be around during draft time keep that in mind.

Looks like another strong CB class and weak WR class. Wonder if we're going to start to see a shift in WR/CB ratings soon. Feel like we haven't had a good safety class in awhile either.

A lack of first round OLB talent has many teams panicking I'm sure. Looks like there's some good depth in the 2nd and 3rd rounds though. MLB has some high end talent but not the depth.

Overall not exactly impressive to me but it could end up lining up nicely for what I would like to do in the first couple rounds so fingers crossed!

I will be doing one again yes. Have my google doc with the first round all ready to go even. And if I get called into jury duty on Wednesday I'll have plenty of time to work on it too. -__-

And yeah, getting the exact player right can be tricky too since we just go with the best available at a position but sometimes a team will pick a player at the right position but the "2nd best" available at that particular position. AI Teams do this a ton.

I think you'll be fine, KCF. Jeffrey having a good game should consequently hurt Washington D enough that Cokes shouldn't be able to make up the ~30 points he needs to win.

And assuming DP loses his match too, I believe that bumps me up to 4th and you to 5th which means we play each other in the first round of the playoffs. So that's neat.

This happened to me a couple years ago. It was some small number but it was less than a 2 point loss week 1 to what ended up being a pretty poor team. But because they kept beating teams that had bad weeks, that team ended up making the playoffs instead of me because of that win. Predictably that team got blown out the first week of the playoffs but I redid the playoff bracket with my team and I would have won the championship that year if I had made the playoffs. =/

I'm so salty in my work league. Got the first pick and obviously picked Gurley. Got Michael Thomas in the 2nd. And baring a miracle, I'm going to miss the playoffs. This is my first time doing a 10 team league and I might like it less than 14 team leagues.

I really only have myself to blame though. I dropped Robert Woods after the 1st week thinking I could do better than him in a 10 team league. I tanked my RB depth by trading Mixon for Landry (thought he'd be a PPR monster) and dropping Cook cause I got tired of waiting for him to be healthy. Making poor starts...just a dismal year all around there. Least in my two other leagues I'm in "win and in" situations and even if I lose there's a good chance of me still making the playoffs.

As for the cap space thing, I know it affected was tenders I gave out as I didn't want to give both my RFAs high tenders so I risked Wood with a mid tender. Generally for consistencies sake I'd probably like to know of an increase before the off-season starts but I it honestly doesn't affect me much at all this year I think. So ultimately I'm good with whatever.

Whoa someone actually signed a Titans RFA. And they didn't match. I probably would have assigned the same tenders to those players but man...I'd probably have kept a 89 OVR TE who's apparently one of the better pass blocking TEs and showed last year he could catch passes too. If it was a higher pick than the Broncos then I'd consider it but eh I'm in charge of the Bears now so whatever.

Yeah, Trubiskey spreads the ball around to everyone so there's never really a focal point for the Bears offense which limits Burton somewhat. And when you're usually banking on a TD for a TE to have a good game, Ebron seems like the safest bet outside of Kelce, Ertz, and maybe Kittle. Which as a Doyle owner is frustrating and they both received 3 targets today so I'm curious to see what the routes run looks like between the two.

Thank goodness that trade for Brandin Cooks went through. Literally my entire bench was on bye so after the trade, picking up the Chargers kicker and dropping Geronimo Allison, giving up on the potential to keep him (a player has to remain on your team the entire year if you want to keep him), and picking up Parker for my Flex, I only had just enough players for a full roster. Eked out a 4 point victory thanks to insane performances from Trubisky and Mcaffrey with Cooks and Washington Defense picking up the rest of my team.

Hey KCF, when you send me my RFA PM could you include what round each of the guys were drafted in? I normally keep a record for myself but as this is my first year with the Bears I'm unfamiliar with where anyone was drafted. Thanks!

My McCaffrey matched his Connor and Brown thanks to that garbage time TD. And once my trade for Brandin Cooks goes through I can drop someone to pick up a kicker and I'll have a full team for bye week hell! And if Carson can't go, I'll just drop Allison and throw him in the IR slot to fill in my Flex. Really gonna need Michel to play though.

Oh god this. And the next several years tbqh. Which is why it took so long for me to get the Titans back on track. And they might still fall back into being awful. I'm a lot more hopeful that the same won't happen to the Bears though given what I've learned.

Hm. Not many notable changes for the Bears. Moreno obviously got a bit of a bump after he ended the year strong which is good to see. Borland looks like he wants to take over for Dan Morgan at MLB after jumping a couple points to an 82. Otherwise it looks like some age regression for some players.

Titans though...Lynch is closing in on 90 after a good year of being the starter. Somehow I had a couple receivers increase by 1. Harry Douglas, despite being injured on two separate occasions during the year, made it to 80 and KR/PR and emergency WR fill in Blake Cronin is up to a 73 lol. The real stars of the offense though were in season FA signing RT Mike Jones who jumped 3 points and last year's #2 leading receiver TE Dwayne Allen also jumping 3 points to 89. Just in time for RFA!

DLine took a hit with everyone dropping including star acquisition Jamaal Anderson...oops. DTs both dropped by 2 leaves a gaping hole at DT for the Titans going forward. But that linebacker group! Gonna miss them. CB Samuel sees some age regression but that group still looks okay. Really disappointed that FS Carter didn't increase after starting last year but both SS increased in rating so that's neat.

Overall, mixed results for the Titans so we'll see what the AI does to build on the momentum of making the playoffs last year. As for the Bears, got some work to do with several retirees but not too much I think.

I'm gonna lose to the guy who let someone win with a sub-60 point score last week because he forgot to set his lineup. He has Jones and Garcon who both scored their first TDs in forever. Coleman ran roughshod over a very good run defense in Washington (also the fantasy defense I was running).

It's looking likely that I would have won with an optimal lineup but that would have involved playing Dalvin Cook which was never going to happen. Watson over Trubisky, in hindsight, should have been the correct move all along. But it's looking like the only real way for me to have won this week would have been to pick up a different defense. I knew it was a bad matchup but Washington has actually scored double digit points in most of its games this year and has a very favorable schedule remaining. And I didn't really have any one else to drop. Just frustrating that I picked up the correct TE to stream (Heuerman) and I'm going to lose...and I have bye week hell coming up next week so I could be on a 3 game losing streak with a matchup against Gurley looming in Week 11. =(

Heheheh. Honestly, I was going to stick with the Titans for at least two more years I think and see where we went but well...when you have a chance to go to your hometown team (we weren't keen on switching teams the one year the Bears were an AI team) you kinda got to take it! I don't feel bad crushing the Bills dreams last year after they prevented us from having a winning record the year before. I do feel a bit bad about the FA signings but hey, maybe the AI Titans will cut their loses or something? I dunno. And lets be honest, you don't really consider any Titans players to be good!

As for retirements...well I picked a good time to switch to a team with a lot of quality players retiring yikes. The Titans meanwhile get another year of Asante Samuel and Prince Amukamara. I would have hoped Stroud would have stayed another year as they might have problems at DT coming. A little shocked that Kyle Boller didn't retire and I will never forgive the Titans if they don't resign him. It was very sad that Brad Kassell couldn't retire as a Titan due to financial reasons. =(

Glad I'm not in the AFC anymore! But yeah, looking more at the retirements I find it disheartening that the OLB I traded to Emerald so he could meet the OLB requirements while being under the cap is one of the last ones standing for his team...at 68 OVR.

As far as the sims/awards...I have discord but I don't really like it and don't use it for anything at all really. I'd prefer the spreadsheet chat but I'll go with whatever really as I have no strong feelings either way. For awards I do not like having the billion options for the 3 main categories. I have literally ignored the entire list and just revoted for whichever QB/HB/WR and DT/linebacker I voted for in the individual categories. I don't like revoting that way though as I like to split my votes more often than not. So I'm in favor of going back to the old way.

Starting 4 Texans players is going to bite me big time right? Watson, Hopkins, Miller, and Ryan Griffen. Needed a TE and with Allison finally being ruled out I was able to free up a space. There are no TEs on the wire but I guess I could roll with Clay or the Broncos TE, at least they get targets.

Might end up going with Trubisky instead at QB too. Luckily I have a seemingly easy matchup this week but bleh.

Oops. I forgot to mention that. While I shall miss the Titans, I am looking forward to making the Chicago Bears, yes the Chicago Bears into a Super Bowl contender. =D

Haha I'll try not to, Shattered! They've actually not been that bad over the years. They've been closer to a 7-9 win team than a 5 win team or less. Other than the one year they were an AI team they've had two extremely idle GMs over the last 10 years. I might not have had the best track record in Tennessee but I think I've learn a lot in that time and I will try not to repeat the same mistakes with the Bears that I did with the Titans.

So the guy turned around on me and ended up trading Matt Ryan for Mark Ingram. Dang. So there ya go, Han. Trade Matt Ryan for Ingram.
