I've got class in the morning, it'll be a third of my assessments done by the second semester. Next semester I'm gonna hit two assessments right out of the park, then nail the third assessment about 4 weeks in. That'll leave about a term and a half for me to tackle the last three topics.

I'm mixing the Tanqueray drinks very strong, and instead of that hard alcoholic bite, I'm getting like a zingy lime sherbet flavor instead. Sherbet, not sorbet

There's a website called BoozeBud, and they had cases of double-strength Southern Comfort for half price or so. Normal price was $135 per case, down to $68 per case. My mum found this website, somehow, and bought three cases for herself. She then tells me about the website, and I decided to give it a try.

I'm ordering through the Chrome phone browser, and I get a 1.125 litre bottle of Prince Albert Gin for $70 and a 700ml bottle of aged Cougar Bourbon for $50. If those prices seem high, that's how it is here in Australia.

But they had a 10% off deal for all gin, as well as 2 free bottles of this elderflower tonic, as well as a one-time 15% off deal with free shipping when you make your first order. So I've got all my shit and I go to check out - but there's no field for the discount code. I go through the next few steps, up to entering my bank details, and there's still no code. I text my mum and ask where she entered her code.

She replies "Just click through on Pay, and it'll come up". So like a jackass, I did. $130 - $10 shipping on top of the booze - gets taken. User error on my end, totally my fault, shit sucks. But I decided to shoot off a support email to see if they could apply the discount retroactively.

I'm well aware that they're within their legal right to say no. I fucked up here, and they can refuse my request and hold the deal as it stands. If that were to happen, I would be cool with it - a bit bummed, but cool.

Dude replies and agrees to refund me the discount, bringing my total down to $100. Super fucking chill, I appreciate the fuck out of that guy for helping me out.

But that's only the beginning. The package got here today, around 5 days later, and I decided to film the unboxing for my own dumb fucking pleasure. I go at the tape with a knife first, then I record myself as I open the box.

Instead of a bottle of 1.125 l Prince Albert Gin, there's a 700ml bottle of Tanqueray Rangpur. Not a bad gin at all, but A) not what I ordered and B) a good $10 cheaper than the Prince Albert. So I take to their live support chat to express my problem.

I politely express my issue, I take a picture of the order as it came, and I wait for a response. Eventually, I get it:

Human error on their side. They're gonna send me the Prince Albert out - for free - and let me keep the Tanqueray.

So that's $180 or so of alcohol, being sent out my way for $100. They really went out of their way to help me out - they could have shafted me either time and I wouldn't have given a shit. Might not have used BoozeBud again, but sometimes shit just doesn't work out and I get that. But they took a hit for me twice - once for my error and once for theirs - and for that I'm really grateful for. I'm gonna get so drunk, this is awesome.

Since when did Jim Sterling give 2 shits about YouTube monitization?

I mean, he started that "Copyright Deadlock" idea when Konami was going around claiming trailer footage to monotise critical videos. Rather than let them have the ad revenue, he would play copyrighted music from multiple companies so Konami would be locked in a multiple-way tie with the likes of EMG or Sony Music.

I don't like his character, but I watched him a bit around 2015. Just so happened to be around the time he "gave a shit about YouTube monetisation" through the lens of unethical copyright claims being layered onto smaller YouTube channels by massive companies.

There are still children in detainment, and they've been observed to have suffered injuries such as having their hands crushed in cage doors and dropping to a third of their former weight. It isn't humane, and it's this treatment that drives more people to enter your borders illegally. Take a chance at freedom and risk a bullet in the back or jail time? Or guarantee that your family will be split up, and your children will be put in a cage and severely mistreated?

It was an interesting concept, but its existence between the Wii and the Switch has further doomed it to its fate - it stands as one of the most awkward console transitions in history. It's a perfect midstep between the Wii and the Switch, but it masters neither of those console's gimmicks - it seemingly exists only to aid the transition from the Wii to the Switch.

What if I cut my hair down to almost baldness on January 1st, 2020? And then, for the next ten years, grow it out? That's ten years of real, tangible history measured in hair length.

That would be kind of a cool vlog idea, if nothing else.

* Playing the game reduces the conflict to a joke, so the act of playing further smooths out the conflict. It works as mediation

Daria was a different flavor of insanity from Beavis and Butthead. Jodie has a strong enough personality to carry a show of her own that makes its own path like Daria did. Maybe there's room for a Mystik Spiral monster-of-the-week type show, where instead of monsters it's just a different town with a whole other set of foibles and quirks, and it can be more of a slice-of-life show that focuses more on bandmate banter and road antics between gigs.

The Beavis and Butthead extended universe has shown considerable range in its treatment of Daria. I think there's room to create new shows that cover a diverse range of genres and tones.

I try to keep my game library diverse. Look at my Now Playing, those are three very different titles. I'm also playing ME3 multiplayer, and I'll be playing the story after I finish Yakuza. After I'm done with the games I'm playing, I'm gonna play Persona 5.

You've got to shake your library up. I get bored with games that feel similar, even if they're mechanically diverse - sometimes you want to listen to music as you play a game, so you play something that's low on plot. Sometimes you want to play something that's super engaging and story-heavy. But to avoid burnout, it might be a good idea to balance a few goofy fun games with a big story epic, and to diversify the genres you're playing.

What about drugs then? The government seems pretty harsh on drug use.

Broken Hill is a meth town now that the opal trade has slowed down. Ice and meth usage is rampant where I live, I was in KFC once and I saw a girl I went to school with - her skin was an unhealthy shade of jaundice, and kind of grey and lifeless. Absolute junkie. I would have been around 19 at the time. I've been drinking at houses where five or six people have just sat around a table smoking ice.

We haven't legalised pot, so folks are occasionally done for that, but there are folks who grow, buy and smoke it who get by without getting in trouble. But there are parts of Australia where ice and meth have exploded into real problems, to the point that police introduced a Mobile Drug Test for drivers to crack down on this behaviour.

What does this have to do with the New Zealand shooting, though? If it's another reach for "personal freedoms" being infringed upon, I can assure you - most Australians don't want a jacked up meth head getting in a car and causing an accident, or going out to drink and punching another person in the back of the head. Things seem better than they used to, but certain parts of Australia have had massive issues with hard drugs this decade and I don't at all oppose the idea of meth use getting cracked down upon.

This would have kicked in after OoT and MM:

* Fans clamor for a new "hardcore" (read: Ocarina of Time-like) Zelda title
* Nintendo releases next mainline installment of series (Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, Breath of the Wild)
* Fans rage and bitch about how slow or unpolished or "poorly characterised" it is. Comparisons tend to be made to OoT, and then later A Link To The Past when the OoT backlash began to hit.
* Time passes, and fans eventually warm up to the game they ragged on for so long. Calls for a remaster mount.
* New Zelda is announced. Fans clamor for a new "hardcore" Zelda title.

OoT fanboys ragged on Wind Waker for being too cartoony when it came out. Twilight Princess was railed on when it launched on the Wii, with a contingent standing by the Gamecube version. Skyward Sword didn't even get past Phase 3. And then despite Breath of the Wild's immense success, fans bitch and moan about how empty and lifeless BotW feels.

It was fun, but it didn't live up to its lofty expectations. A majority of the story that fans really wanted to see was jammed into the last hour of the game, in back-to-back fights. Characters returned with no explanation, like Xion. The secret cutscene revealed that all that mobile game stuff is, in fact, integral to the series and required reading to understand 3. And there's no discernable reason as to why they left out all of the Final Fantasy characters. Hell, they even cut the worlds that were present in the first two games - I was hoping for a Nightmare Before Christmas level, or an Arena level whether it was Olympus or another one.

Pirates of the Caribbean was a good-looking world, though, and I loved the ship combat. I may be in the minority here, since folks online love to bitch about the crabs, but that entire world was a complete and utter feast. Pirates of the Caribbean was the world where I started to turn around on the game and like it again.

It felt like a very hollow game. Fans wanted a KH3 that tied up all the loose ends, and while the game did that, they had to jam it into a single extended series of battles. Before that, we had hope with Sora and the gang rescuing Aqua and going to get Ventus. But right after that, when they get to that massive fanservicey world, the plot goes to shit and the game just flat-lines.

At least there's a reasonable justification for cracking down on the footage of a massacre. Propagating the footage of someone dying is obscene, and it can be used for trolling. That's not me prattling off some flimsy Government justification, that's common sense - it was public, it exists, it could be archived for public viewing through a specific historical service but that footage contains a lot of evil and stands to do a lot of harm if left out in the open.

Meanwhile, "urr our government secrets" is an excuse being applied to news articles that are like two years old. Two unrelated news articles that benefit the public's interests, raided by the police. Sending a message to potential whistleblowers that their lives will be upended next. That is a dangerous overreach of governmental power, and it's appalling that the police and government are trying to fuck us in the ass over this.

Facebook didn't get banned because it's a wider platform that the shooter used, with billions of global visitors. It was a tool, and they complied with officials in regards to the shooter. Archival sites were targeted because they aimed to keep the video viewable for anyone who wanted to see 50 Muslims get murdered. The propagation of that footage can't be assumed to be in good faith, nor can the footage of human slaughter be considered a freely available resource for anyone to view at their leisure.

Christ, tell me about it. I was pretty shocked when the results came though, after the trainwreck they've been. They jumped on Labor's dick super hard when Rudd got ousted, but the Liberal Party has stayed in power despite playing goddamn musical chairs for the better half of a decade. The only solace is that Tony Abbott lost his seat, and even that's just a small victory against a much larger tide.

All we can hope for is that Anthony Albanese gains the public's trust and successfully reforms the Labor party into a strong contender once again, and that the country isn't completely and utterly fucked by Peter Dutton and the other cronies by 2022.

Irony posted...
Australia is basically a fascist state now

I mean, that's going a bit far. But we need to stay vigilant and hold our governing bodies responsible when they pull shit like this. Fascist states come about with small changes, followed by bold public actions that test whether the small changes they've been making have molded the public conversation in their favor. This would be a step towards fascism, and it's a step that can be combated by holding the AFP and government responsible.

I shy away from statements like this because it's an extreme thing to say, and that turns most people off when they hear it. I also believe that while things are bad, public awareness and backlash can still stop the cronyism and bullying that's rife in our government.

Brock Turner got off lightly. If his probation is ending, then it's ending - hopefully he'll never offend in this way for the rest of his life. But if he does, I hope they lock him up for life.

He was very close to getting a clean break because of his bright, upcoming future. The judge that sentenced him hated the thought of such a future going to waste. It was only after a vocal public outcry that he got even close to a fair sentence.

Brock Turner has the rest of his life to work himself back into a career of his choosing. That's more than most criminals get, even lesser offenders. Steven Seagal was probably a force to be reckoned with in his prime. Not the best in the world, necessarily, but obviously accomplished enough that a solid majority of the world's population wouldn't be able to kick his ass in any sense of the world. He was probably a solid bouncer, or a half-decent security guy, and I don't doubt that in his prime he earned his different belts in different martial arts.

But his prime was around 30 years ago, and everything he's done since his prime has been to further his own personal goal of being the world's heaviest shitstain.

Folks have already pointed out his dogshit cop show, primadonna personality and disrespectful shit-talking. What some folks might not necessarily know is how he's talked shit about Bruce Lee years after his death, saying that Bruce Lee was just a movie guy and that he could have wiped the floor with him because of a tighter grip on the "fundamentals" or some shit. This is the same man who kept talking shit about beating Jean-Claude Van Damme up while attending the same party as him, only to bitch out when Van Damme challenged him to a fight.

Steven Seagal's prime was waning at best around the time that I was born. Just about everything he's done during my lifetime has been to put others down and prop his aging, bloated ass up on a pedestal. You can look at old action movie stars now, and while a majority of them wouldn't be saints or gods of their craft, it seems clear to me that they've aged into more graceful people than Steven Seagal.

Steven Seagal is a fucking turd, and any goodwill he may have built up through decent movies and solid martial arts expertise deserves to be pissed down the drain. I'd even kick $30 towards a pair of boxing gloves for TC to enact his violent rage fantasy. I don't have any grand delusions about my own skills - I'm a weak-ass motherfucker who could almost certainly get dropped by Steven Seagal. But that doesn't change what an intensely hateable human being he is, and I can only wish TC luck in his mission to beat him down.

Australias media industry is bracing for more heavy-handed raids by the Federal Police, following the extraordinary searches of the ABC today and a journalists home yesterday.

Several officers remain inside the Sydney headquarters of the public broadcaster, trawling through more than 9200 items in relation to reports published two years ago regarding alleged unlawful killings and misconduct by Special Forces troops in Afghanistan.

It comes just a day after the Canberra home of Annika Smethurst, political editor of News Corp Australias Sunday newspapers, was stormed by seven AFP officers who spent seven hours poking through her personal items, including her underwear drawer.

Claire Harvey, deputy editor of The Sunday Telegraph, said she was concerned more journalists would be targeted in what was clearly an attempt to intimidate.

All media organisations should be concerned about whos going to be next, Harvey said on ABC News today.

There will be more raids. Thats inevitable. There are plenty of stories I can think of that the government might be targeting next.

Please delete all of our correspondence, a message from an Australian Federal Police officer to news.com.au reads.

Its one of several messages this week sent to our newsroom from AFP whistleblowers who have contacted us to report widespread mental health issues within the organisation and a disturbing internal bullying culture over the past two years.

Many of the almost 100 past and present sworn members who came forward claimed the toxic culture had culminated in four workplace suicides in less than two years and warned that more deaths were inevitable.

But some of those who spoke out are now fearful that they will be identified and reprimanded

under the Australian Federal Police Act. 1979 in the event of another raid on major news organisations. While Australian whistleblowers can apply to be protected under the Corporations Act, the legislation is narrowly drafted and has subsequently come under intense scrutiny.

Were next, one AFP member wrote to news.com.au this week.

Please delete everything I have.

Another said: (George) Orwells 1984 (a dystopian novel about the risks of government overreach, totalitarianism and repressive regimentation) is real, sadly.

I didnt serve and fight for this, the message continued.

This isn't gonna appeal to anyone else, but I grew up on games like City Connection and Road Fighter. My nan bought me and my sister a bootleg 120000-in-1 plug-and-play system when we were kids, and it had classics like Donkey Kong Jr. as well as Japanese titles like Mitsume Ga Tooru - named "3 Eyed Boy" in the ROM menu, which I affectionately referred to it as for a good many years - and this Aladdin game. Of course, it only had 100 games on it, repeated until it hit the 120000 threshold. It even had a Macross game on it, which sucked, and Karateka, which is rad as shit.

But City Connection was one of those games, and while it took a while for me to get into it, I really enjoyed it when I did. I'm down for some City Connection action.

People getting buttmad at all the obscure or niche picks - I grew up with this shit! I don't play a lot of Switch Online, but these picks are like tailor-suited to me. I'm super excited.

Aesthetically, I prefer ME1 out of all the games. I like its earnest story, and while its visual design is dated, it's still very charming. I also find value in the gameplay jank, and I actually rather like the Mako. It's fun to romp around in a giant space tank, and it's less of a turd than the Hammerhead.

But Mass Effect 2 is one of the only times where I feel like a series has executed a darker and edgier turn properly. Remember shit like Jak 2, where they turn this happy, naturalistic collectathon into a lame GTA ripoff? This is essentially that, but with a more natural tonal shift that's executed in a much less jarring manner.

But on that note, Mass Effect 2 isn't as effective without having the context of Mass Effect 1. Feeling the difference in controls, seeing the increased production values and witnessing the destruction of the Normandy - it's one of the best sequel improvements in the history of video games. On its own, Mass Effect 2 is a great game. Paired with what Mass Effect 1 started, it's an excellent game.

I will say that the gameplay functions are a bit watered down, but as far as lore goes, this is the best possible route it could have taken. I wanted to see more of Quarian culture. I wanted the Geth to be fleshed out instead of being evil soldier mooks the whole time. This game was excellent at expanding upon the Mass Effect universe, and if the last game hadn't lost a ton of original ME staffers - including writers who had worked on the series from the first game - the set-up in this game probably would have paid off in spades.

you're thinking of andromeda

I swear, there was a backlash at one point saying that Mass Effect 2 was never good or that it's aged terribly. I'll look through a YouTube channel that mentioned it offhandedly at the time, that should give me a general time frame for when this was happening
